Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hi

The Magus class is awesome.

But many people has different ideas on what represents a dude who seamlessly melds Fighting and casting.

The point of this thread is to post links to your favorite videos of what you think represents a Magus.

My favorite Is here: Link

Or cut/paste:

Correct type of world setting and Hawke is a badness who mixes it up in melee whilst using magic to kick a$$.

He even keeps a hand free for casting. :)

Gandalf was a magus by Pathfinder reckoning. Wielding staff and sword seamlessly in nattle while occasionally throwing out spells.

Harry Dresden of tue Dresden Files is a great example too but I never watched the TV series, only read the books.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Darth Vader?

You're more likely to find examples in anime.

Fairy Tail (like, half the wizards...)
Bleach (Specifically: Rukia Kuchiki, Yoruichi Shihōin, Byakuya Kuchiki)
Sword Art Online (second arc)
Zetsuen No tempest (the mages can only use defensive magic, so it's used to enhance weapons)
Book of Bantorra
To aru majutsu no index (some of the mages are pretty physical)

Geralt and the other Witchers from (you guessed it) The Witcher are a pretty good match thematically, though they do a bit more twin-weapon fighting than PFRPG magi.

Now that is a magus! :-)
What type of sword/staff/weapon is he wielding? (if it is an actual type).

You're going to find that any character that has more than two dimensions will have more than one valid way of depicting them. Describing a richly detailed and complex character by means of gaming constructs, is much like the old parable of three blind men describing an elephant.

Geralt's more an alchemist than a magus with his mutagens.

Elric of Melniboné would be a great Western example of a Magus, specifically the Bladebound archetype.

I should hope so. Kinda based on Elric :-)

You have a point, but the whole point of this thread is finding magi, which in pathfinder means a spellcasters who wields weapons and magic together. Gandalf and Harry Dresden both do that on a regular basis. Gandalf is actually closer to being a magus than Dresden because he uses magic less often.

But this is not supposed to be another What Is Gandalf thread.

My favorite is also Star Wars, with Darth Vader as best example.

There are some great cinimatic battles of dark vaders apprentice
In both The Force Unleashed games.

In the actual Dragonage game it was considered a high level staff.
