petition to recognize all women as US citizens

Is this a contest for damn stupid ideas or what?

Interesting, to say the least.

I can't think of one reason why it's a bad idea. I can think of a hundred off the top of my head why it's a good idea.

Now, whether it's a PRACTICAL idea? That's another story. But it's not stupid at all.

THINK before you type. Don't just react like programmed robots.

My reaction wasn't negative.

why just women?

Dark Archive

Bad idea it sets a sexist right that would then be over turned in court as men would not be granted the same right of citizenship or the us would then have to make everyone legal in the world. Which has good and bad to it. Good for openning the US and possibly the start of a world government but at the risk of major national security threat.

This seems to operate under the assumption that they don't already run things.

The US already has problems with people in two of its own states - California and Texas, for one example among many - being so immensely different in culture, expectation, morality, and behavior that laws meant to govern the entirety inevitably result in clashes. Doubly so now that the idea of individual state laws superseding federal on most local issues has been repeatedly upended.

I fail to see how a world government, which takes that very dissonance and cranks it up to the maximum, would ever be a good thing.

As a wise man predicte , it'll happen the day aliens show up. While I sincerely hope it will be the zentradi, I'm up for any non - firefly based alien race. Also, no Borg. Cuz that would suck.

You're in luck, Firefly had no aliens. Just humans and mentally-fracked-up humans.

Also - would have probably been more accurate to say "several of its own states" rather than two; the CA-TX rivalry is simply one of many, and the one I'm most familiar with having been born and raised Texan. There are others of similar discord and equivalent hostility. The cultures are just that different, and nothing short of eliminating one of them will reconcile them.

Furthermore, US Citizens already rankle at attempts by the UN to dictate policy that affects or overrules US laws. Attempting a world-spanning single government will only worsen both of these.

If I recall correctly, in the Babylon 5 TV-verse, the first aliens to show up on Earth were the Centauri. Because they looked so much like humans on the outside, they tried to convince the people of Earth that they were a long lost Centuari colony.

Bad comedy aside, women still come out on the short stick that's disproportionate to their contributions both domestic and economic.

Now I want to go back and watch some episodes. That was an awesome series.

re: cali vs. TX, that's just dumb. I attribute this to jealousy that they are not from ny.

I call it more "Stop telling me that where I live should be more like you live, if I wanted that I'd move to your place".

NY is actually kind of antagonistic around here in TN, actually - I've heard quite a few times of "if we wanted things to be more like New York, we'd go move to New York" when people grumble about stuff the city/county/state's done or things people are proposing. Not sure where it came from, unless we recently had a politician move here from NY and has started trying to change stuff to be more like where s/he came from? I dunno, I don't really pay attention to those kinda things these days.

Either way. It's not so much jealousy as "we don't want to be like you, that's why we're here and not there".

it usually has no basis beyond the occasional poorly reported news story or brief conversation with someone who lives there. I still keep in touch with my ex from tn, and we have a good laugh about the things people there think we're doing up here.

I'm pretty sure there are politicians in this country that don't even want the women in the U.S. to be able to vote, let alone the female population of the rest of the world.

That's probably true of just about anywhere, really.

I like to think that between Comrade Dingo and I, the Paizo messageboards keep the NSA Internet Surveillance mainframes busy.

I for one welcome our new female over-ladies!

I look on it this way...Giving all women US Citizenship will cause population growth elsewhere to drop off sharply - particularly in nations where women are second class citizens. That's how real geniuses wage global war by the way.

In WNC we call folks from NY halfbacks ... as in the folks who move from NY to FL and only make it halfway back. ;)

Actually we get a fair number of New Yorkers in NC and most of them are pretty cool. It's those folks who want to turn the place they moved to into the place they moved from that I don't quite get ...

And as to the petition, not so sure it's a good idea because:

1) is would be biased on the basis of gender (which has already been pointed out).

2) it would have the potential for serious security risks (which I think was already pointed out as well).

3) if this were enacted, do you really think that areas which already treat women as second class citizens would treat them better or, if there were even a modest exodus, would they more severely restrict their movement, even to the point of imprisonment, removing any semblance of citizenship to women?

Oh, wait, if 20 years of easily accessible public internet didn't do that already, nothing will do...

Perhaps because I don't need another demonstration of my idiocy? I know that many people here think that the White House petition section is something fit for only mockery and graffiti petitions like this one. I do however believe in according the office at least a modicum of respect and decorum.

Hey, this isn't mockery..this will save lives and bring down the rest of the world. Its win-win. Petitions are not mockery and graffiti even if you think so. They are a desire to participate in a civilization that has built a brick wall and told you put up a petition and if the Administration want it or not, irrelevant of the number of people who vote in favor of it may be it will get a look in.

Now if you wanted real change where everyone participates, then The Petitions would be voted on by everyone - once a year and the ones that have majority support would get to go forward to development.

Does the Australian Prime Minister have a petition thing? Because I want to petition them to confiscate your computer.

Petitions require at least 25,000 votes to be sent to the White House.

He won't even get a response like the cool Death Star petition.
Now, THERE was a goofy White House site petition maker who knew how to do it right.

Try to petition to have the Prime Directive from Star Trek added as an amendment to the US Constitution instead. You might get some actual praaaaaaaafit that way.

The Exchange

All petitions submitted to 'we the people' will require a public vote once a year

How about change to the process so all petitions (even the build a death star one) have to be put to the populace once a year in a public vote? That would bypass the white house veto.

Dude. Your mom didn't even vote for your petition.

Least she could do is vote for your little petition thing.
