Weight of Mithral and Crafting Armor / Weapons

Rules Questions

We just had our first session back from the holidays, and we were put through a series of trials to overcome for us to receive our training and our new equipment.

During one of the trials, we came across some Mithral Snake Constructs (small size) which count 4 total, and the GM stated that each Snake Construct's Mithral consisted 10 pounds worth of it (so 40 pounds total).

After we complete the trial, me and the other frontline of our group wanted Mithral armor; I wear Heavy armor, he wears Medium armor (Full Plate and Breastplate respectively). The Heavy Armor is 50 pounds, and the Medium Armor is 30 pounds, using regular materials. Now here's the issue:

The RAW for Mithral states that it weighs half as much as Steel, but is just as strong, and this affects the weight of armor and weapons on the equal term. Now, for crafting purposes, does this mean that making a Full Plate (for example) weighing only 25 pounds due to the Mithral component mean that it should only take 25 pounds worth of the Mithral acquired (leaving the other 15 pounds the Breastplate would consist of) to create the item, or does it still require the full 50 pounds of the material to create it?

The thing is, I would think that since the material itself is half the weight of regular materials that it would only take 25 pounds worth of the stuff to make a heavy suit of armor, but sometimes the RAW and ruling for this stuff is weird and contradictory, so...

Luckily, the GM houseruled that we would get it anyway with a +1 enhancement to our armor, but that's all we would get, but it would be nice to know what the RAW outcome of things would be.

Silver Crusade

If the (steel) armour weighs 50lbs, then it takes 50lbs of steel to construct.

If the mithral armour weighs 25lbs then it takes 25lbs of mithral to construct.
