Lore Keeper Domain Power

Rules Questions

The Exchange

Knowledge is a trained skill. Does Lore Keeper domain power allow a check to be made against a creature that falls under a skill that the character lacks ranks in? For example, if the character has NO ranks in knowledge Dungeoneering, does lore keeper allow for checks against aberations or oozes?

It says it is as if you made the knowledge check. So I would personally say yeah, regardless of whether you could normally make them, the power does it for you, so you're good.

Not entirely positive, but I think if the knowledge skill were meant to be required for this, it would likely have been mentioned in the power. As is, it basically just says you got it.

I can definitely read it two ways (emphasis mine):

1) "With a successful touch attack, you gain information as if you made the appropriate Knowledge skill check"

2) "With a successful touch attack, you gain information as if you made the appropriate Knowledge skill check"

With interpretation 1, it implies you are making the check, and you can't make any untrainted knowledge check with a DC above 10, and therefore does not work unless you have 1 rank in every knowledge skill.

With interpretation 2, it implies the check is made already, so your inability to make untrained Knowledge checks with a DC above 10 is irrelevant.

Personally, I'd go with #2 because I see no reason to further weaken an already not-that-good ability.

"How do we defeat that horrible monster made of lava?"
"Oh, let me touch it and find out..."
"AAAAAAAAH"
"Ok, he's weak to cold and burns anyone that touches it..."
