The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

Nyx arrives to the two-floor Louis Vauquelin Clothing Company. The bottom floor was a traditional store with many simply-made garments on racks along the walls and around the periphery of the store. In the center, though, were the designer garments that made the LVCC the envy of Galt. Nyx knows from discussions that the second floor contains storage as well as Raymond’s living quarters.

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (5) + (3) + 16 = 24

Peering inside, Nyx notices that the usual young attendant is nowhere to be seen. Raymond is currently measuring someone, a half-elf woman in her early 40s, by Nyx’s guess, though much of her figure is blocked by a curtain wall with a silk robe draped over it. The woman has streaks of silver in her fair, which was tied back in a tight bun, with her brow and eyes beginning to show signs of wrinkling. Aside from this customer, the store is empty, not an unusual occurrence given that the store relies on sales of finery few in Isarn can afford.

Nyx idly wanders through the shop, announcing her presence with a soft ”Hello?” but not really wanting to interrupt Raymond’s work. She did position herself to see who exactly was being measured once they left the curtain wall, but otherwise was content to wait patiently for Raymond to finish, browsing the the central garments of the shop

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

Raymond looks around the curtain barrier, “Ah madame Illisha, welcome. Looking to reinvest last night’s earnings? There were certainly some excellent pieces, I’m sure you made out quite well.” He winks at Nyx and gives off a casual chuckle. “I’m just finishing collecting measurements, I shouldn’t be but two minutes.”

Nyx’s wandering gives her a slightly clearer view of the woman being measured, but ultimately does not offer her any new insight into who the woman might be. Nyx peruses the garments while she waits. There are several new pieces on display on mannequins, displaying new attire for the coming summer line. True to his word, within two minutes Raymond had finished his measurements and was wrapping up discussion with the woman. Nyx tried to listen in on the conversation, but was unable to hear any of the conversation.

Nyx is unable to hear any sound at all, not simply unable to make out the conversation.

“Now then, how may I help you?” Raymond asks, approaching Nyx.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Part of Nyx was a little bit peeved that she couldn't figure out who the patron was, but she wasn't particularly upset, and didn't want to be rude pushing her luck. The utter silence led Nyx to suspect some sort of silencing magic was in play, but she didn't ask. Better than most, Nyx appreciated discretion - the clients of the Melody demanded as such and Nyx had always been trained to at least appear to honor such things.

As Raymond takes measurements, she casually browses the store, spending careful moments admiring the available garments. Nyx didn't really default to a particular style - she trusted Raymond to know and tell her exactly what was fashionable. All she really cared about was the status of wearing such clothing, as well as ensuring she looked attractive in it. Quite frankly, she viewed it as an accessory like anything else, and if it should distract anyone (or not) then so much for the better.

Therefore its with a slightly distracted smile she gives when looking up during Raymonds approach. "I might need to put a cap on my reinvesting though, your clothing range seems to have grown even more impressive since my last visit - and eventually a girl has to eat" Nyx responds simply, returning the wink in kind. Nyx didn't really use humor often - there was always something serious to worry about, and it was in times like this where she wondered if she was pulling it off correctly as she lacked the practice.

"Do you have something in my size, something for me to add to my collection Raymond? You do know that I love to go through a good wardrobe" Nyx continues with a quick smile, still having much of her attention on some of the newer garments, judging the styling available, hoping to bring the conversation around to business before she could naturally sneak in her other request rather casually.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

As Nyx was having her discussion, the woman behind the curtain fussed with her belongings for a few moments after Raymond headed over to Nyx. Within a minute she had gathered whatever she’d needed and left the LVCC. Before leaving, Nyx finally had a chance to get a proper look at the woman. She was lean, but not malnourished, and quite tall, a full head over Nyx. Though her features were soft, her face and movements all had a sense of purpose, giving the sense that she’d rather be elsewhere.

“As much as I love your patronage, that is probably wise.” Raymond continued his light-hearted exchange with Nyx. Raymond responds to Nyx’s inquiry, “I know it’s not your usual wardrobe, but since you asked for my opinion...” Raymond trails off and makes his way to one of the back walls of the store. He points to a light blue cotton sundress on a mannequin. While the pattern and cut appear simple at a glance, the fitting on the mannequin subtly displays the mannequins features while giving the appearance of modesty. “I rather imagine you would look excellent in this, though I understand if it’s not your preference.”

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

Nyx can tell that Raymond is using a similar form of subtle emphasis in his speech here, with Nyx barely catching some of them. She’s unsure of what Raymond is hinting at, but the words “asked” and “opinion” in particular stood out.

Just as a reminder: Raymond did not give any overt indication he had a topic to discuss at the gala. He used subtle cues that gave Nyx that impression.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Noting down the woman's dimensions, Nyx files that information away, She itches to ask Raymond about her, but restrains herself for the moment. Instead, she follows Raymond to the mannequin, looking at the Mannequin with a critical glance.

"Its certainly a nice material, and I love the style, I'm just wondering if I could get away with wearing it in most places when I'm out and about. I do visit...varied places when I'm out and about" she mummers, brushing a fingertip against the clothing.

"You wouldn't happen to have something that I could try on and see would you?" she inquires casually, as if giving the matter serious thought. As she watches Raymond busy himself with her request, Nyx reflects quietly on the mans doublespeak. It wasn't often that she couldn't follow what someone was meaning, and she silently cursed her lapse in this particular skill. Still, just because she couldn't (yet) follow his meaning, didn't mean that she couldn't make an exchange, and Nyx takes a moment to prepare herself before responding.

"I asked for your opinion, because you have considerable experience in the matter of clothing, fashion, and style. It really is very much like a form of artwork when you think about. I must admit, I'm always on the lookout for new or even historical styling and techniques and I - and others, could incorporate within the Melody. Perhaps we should talk about it sometime" she responds, trying to put particular emphasis on the words "artwork" and "historical", when again, attemptig to make the request casual, and abstract.

Raymond responds to Nyx’s inquiry, “Of course, we have some clothes that would fit you as-is. I assumed a woman of your tastes would prefer it tailored. Clothes are always so much more flattering when fit to form.”

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

An obvious smile comes across Raymond’s face, more genuine than his usual smile during polite banter. “Why of course, Madame. But that kind of conversation would take time. I have some orders I still need to work on today. May I interest you in dinner this evening? I’m a decent cook if I may so.”

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

”Absolutely right Raymond, tailoring is my preference - I was just merely wondering if I could see how it looks on me first before you went to all this time and effort adjusting everything on my behalf” Nyx replies quickly, attempting to clarify the slight misunderstanding.

At the mans dinner request, she deliberately gave the offer a moments pause, deliberately not wanting to be over eager, before smiling in kind. ”I’m actually a bit of a terrible cook, so any offer of dinner is an extremely appreciated offer that i’d gladly take you up on”

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“Can’t afford to just make clothes that might not fit out of any material worth wearing.” Raymond says with a sigh as he removes the dress from the mannequin. “You’re welcome to hold this up, and see what you think. It’s hard to do my best work when all the best materials are guarded fervently.”

“It’s always a pleasure to have good company for dinner. My quarters are upstairs. I typically have dinner ready around 8 o’clock. You’re welcome any time around then. I expect the guards in Vieille Ville will leave you well enough alone if you’re wearing clothes from here. A bold one might look for a small bribe.”

Nyx holds the dress against her body for a moment, trying to visualize it against her. While others might have struggled, Nyx found this easy, she used disguises so often she found it simple to look at herself in isolation.

"I'll take it I think Raymond, and I'll be sure to ensure I have a coin or two just in case a guard is particularly brave enough to block my path. 8 sounds perfect."

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“The dress will be 40gp. I have your measurements on file...” Raymond gave Nyx a quick look over and pulled out a small book from the inside of his jacket flipped through a few pages and looked back up. “I’ll make the alterations promptly.”

Raymond took the dress and hung it behind his counter. “I do look forward to discussing the history of art and fashion later.”

Where is Nyx headed next?

Nyx counts out the gold at the agreed upon price, happy to pay up front if asked. Swiftly she gathers herself and steps out the door, heading back to the Melody.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

After a quick exchange of pleasantries, Nyx is on her way back to the Unchained Melody. A rather quick walk between Vieille Ville and the Melody. The lunch rush had passed, leaving the streets rather empty.

Returning to the Melody, Sabine makes two quick hand signs to Nyx. One for “Gaspard” and one for “potential client”. She motioned towards the gallery floor. As Nyx looked into the gallery she saw a familiar face with Gaspard, Emilien.

Created a chat channel for the interaction. If you would like, you can post responses to Sabine here, but start your interaction with Emilien in the chat. You should likely say hello first, as it is your establishment. We’ll return here once I post a transcript.

Nyx walks through the doors of the Melody, dressed in dark clothing, her eyes quickly scanning the room before alighting on Emilien. Nyx noticed Gaspard entertaining the information broker, but suspected that Emilien was also probably here for something else. “Welcome to the Melody sir, I trust Gaspard is giving you the tour?” she asks smoothly.

"But of course. Gaspard has been a most indulgent guide and Sabine was likewise a delight. I was able to get some idea of art I may wish to purchase for the Clerk of the Cork. But I was hoping to speak about some more personal work." Emilien was trying to sound casual, but Nyx could tell he was more to his visit. Their previous interactions had often been brief or indirect.

Nyx wrote:

Nyx smiles at Emilien, projecting delight into her tone "I am pleased that my staff were able to give you an enjoyable experience while you waited for me."

The courtesan quickly crosses the floor to Emilien's side, before indicting a door on the other side of the room. "If you please, we can discuss anything personal into my office if you wish, its private, and we shouldn't be disturbed, Sabine can manage things while I'm otherwise engaged in our meeting."

“Gaspard and I will tend to any guests,” Sabine gives Nyx a signaling nod. “I can bring you up refreshments if you would like.” With a suggestive smile, she waves her open palm toward the staircase.

"Truly you have a wonderful staff here. They seem quite apt at anticipating the desires of your clients," Emilien comments before turning to look at the two. "Thank you both again for the time. I will likely end up taking up some more of it another time when I have less pressing concerns on my plate."

"After you Madame," Emilien says as he makes his way towards her office. Once inside the office, Emilien chooses to stand, fidgeting somewhat nervously. "Lovely office, no problem with pests I hope? The Clerk occasionally has a problem with mice scurrying around."

Nyx could tell he spoke of a vapid topic, seeing if the office were considered private.

Nyx wrote:

In stark contrast to Emilien, Nyx settles in a chair behind the desk and adopts a relaxed posture. The desk itself is fairly spartan, by Emilien could tell that a great deal of care had gone into the positioning of the few items on top of it. For instance, a small lamp in one corner , a notepad in the middle of the desk, writing instruments laid out on either side of the notepad. Nyx was a firm believer that clutter showed disorganization, which in turn signaled a lack of professionalism that she always wanted to emulate.

Nyx briefly indicates a chair for Emilien to sit if required, but wasn't offended when Emilien didn't take it, instead noticing the agitation in her colleague.

"We couldn't have mice running around squeaking everywhere here in the Melody - that would be extremely unprofessional," she responds, understanding the man's abstract reference more or less instantly and giving due thought to the response. "Rest assured that the Melody has heard many a secret in its time, and we have a reputation for discretion, you can speak freely here Emilien without concern," Nyx finishes, her eyes flicking towards a separate door set into the side of the office, neglecting to mention it as an additional option. The door led to Nyx's workshop, and further, to her private rooms, where also they could guarantee no listeners, but Nyx only brought client's into her workshop, and absolutely no-one into her private living quarters.

Emilien exhaled, now seeming somewhat more relaxed, knowing he can share his information. "Wyssal was taken in a short time ago. Reportedly for being too vocal in her worship of Miliani. While it's possible, she was too outspoken for her own good, I'll admit that the timing worries me somewhat. I didn't know of you had heard yet but I wanted to get your thoughts on the matter."

Nyx wrote:

Nyx is quiet for a few moments, absorbing the information for a moment and briefly running through a few scenarios in her mind before settling back in her chair, still wearing a look of calmness.

“The timing is unfortunate but I’m not as worried. The worshippers of Miliani were certain to be targeted this close to Pauline being moved - it distracts then. Wyssal being outspoken just made her an easy target. If it was connected to us then we would have all been rounded up not just her. As for betrayal- I don’t see her as the type but I could always drop find some documents that could discredit her if we required”

"I only worry that discrediting her wouldn't be to our benefit. We need not give her any further motivation to spill secrets. She knows the location of our meeting place, our names and the timing of our upcoming undertaking. Its gotten to the point that I've considered taking steps to remove her as a complication entirely. But that would come with it's own risks," Emilien considered aloud. "The best outcome would be if we can get credible information that the round up was based purely on her Miliani worship. If others were taken in for instance, then it was a preemptive show of force. If only she was taken though, that's a little too coincidental."

Nyx wrote:

“It’s almost certainly related to her worship. If anyone knew about the mission we would all be in trouble but it was just her who was arrested. Ergo it’s unconnected. There is no need for drastic action Emilien, it just draws attention to her as someone of importance.” Nyx responds, still keeping an infuriating calm attitude in light of the mini crisis.

Emilien nodded, slowly at first and then more genuinely, "That's a fair point. Action may be more telling than inaction in that regard. Nevertheless please keep your ears open and should anything change you know how to get ahold of me."

Sitting down at the table he reaches out to touch Nyx's hand. He hesitates for a moment to wait for consent before touching her. When he does, a flood of memories about the layout of some of Nord Riviere’s catacombs flood into Nyx’s mind. "I'm not overly familiar with the catacombs but it occurs to me that they could be a possible route to move through in the next few days. Additionally I've acquired a stock of government issue paper, in the event we wish to produce falsified paperwork." He gives over a small stack of high quality papers.

Nyx wrote:

Nyx pauses, allowing Emilien to touch and share the Memory, which she absorbs with her eyes closed. "The paperwork is an excellent idea, I was relatively close to running out I believe, so it will be an excellent opportunity for me to replenish my stocks . The guard captain in charge of the area, appears to be incorruptible which is bad news. I'm attempting to see if I can get a guard schedule or roster at this point, if we can track the movements of the guards in that district, it will hopefully allow evading them to be easier."

"Thank you for taking the time, Madame Illisha. But I best make my way back to the Clerk. I’ll be listening for any other clues surrounding Wyssal’s arrest, see if we can confirm the arrest as unrelated.", the businessman added, heading out of the office, leaving the Melody.

Nyx indicates the door as Emilien steps out of the office. She follows him to the door, watching him exit before returning to her office.
”Sabine, can you continue to watch the gallery while I handle some of the bookkeeping and accounts in the office?” she asks carefully, not expecting there to be too much of an issue. She had no real way of knowing when Alkos was going to drop by - late afternoon had many interpretations after all - so she wanted to be both available and productive with her time.

After about an hour had passed, Nyx hears the discreet bell ringing, indicating that Sabine was calling her to the front desk. Expecting Alkos Fenn, Nyx takes a moment to wrap up her current bookkeeping calculations, closes her books and makes her way down to the front. Alkos is standing by the front desk chatting idly with Sabine, but Nyx has his attention almost as soon as her office door opens. Alkos is here with two strapping men to help him carry away his wares. He wraps up his conversation with Sabine, and turns to Nyx. “Madame Nyx, hopefully I need not take up too much of your time, I know we are both quite busy. Shall we get straight to business?” Alkos spoke politely and with respect, but his directness would normally be viewed as impolite in Galt. Nyx has received a brief dossier on major clients from Madame Ouellette. Alkos’s talked about how in the River Kingdoms, there was less emphasis on pleasantries and minor social rituals. He was always more willing to indulge the pleasantries at galas and social visits, but he was always far more direct when conducting business.

“There were the statues of Sarenrae, Gozreh, Brigh, and Alseta, as well as that excellent tapestry by Nikita. I have 320 platinum ready per my bid last night if you found my big agreeable.” The normally warm Alkos was all business right now, his expression steely and inscrutable. The friendly man always did prove to be a competent negotiator. Discussing money so bluntly was considered in poor taste among Galtans, but her dossier also stated that those from River Kingdoms have no such reservations, and try to state their business clearly and succinctly, a convention Alkos obviously favored.

Thanks to Madame Ouellette's dossier, Nyx wasn't quite as thrown as she could have been by Alkos' directness. While she might have held other Galts to a higher standard of politeness, she respected Alkos as a businessman and didn't wish upon her customs on him - at least not yet.

"Going straight to business is fine sir, and I did find your bid most agreeable. I have no problems with the statues of Sarenrae, Gozreh, Brigh, and Alseta leaving the Melody. Sabine has outdone herself, and I'm sure would be pleased to leave her artwork in your expert hands. "

Nyx nods in the direction of Sabine, before pausing a brief moment, making the omission of the Tapestry obvious by default.

"The Tapestry is a different matter. Your bid was the most impressive and attractive to the artist, and you would be our preferred candidate. Nikita was especially grateful for the opportunity for her artwork to be showcased elsewhere, so that others can appreciate the skill of Galt's artwork. That said, the Tapestry portrays an exceptionally difficult time for Nikita, and also for Galt as a whole. She hopes that the Tapestry remain here, until your next visit whereupon it would be able to leave with you. Nikita...and myself believe that it allows Nikita the time to share the artwork with Galt as well as time to bid farewell to a masterpiece. I'm sure that, in light of this information, you may wish to reopen negotiations?" Nyx finishes, fairly certain that Alkos will not be pleased, but wanting to respect her artists wishes.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

Alkos considered the counter-offer, mulling it over. “That is a fair request. This is a new Galtan work if ever there was one, it would be a shame to not let it be seen by those it is meant for.”

“As smoothly as our business has gone in the past, I would prefer to have these terms on paper. I will hire a Galtan barrister to draw up the agreement.” Alkos then cuts through any pleasantries, reciting the key points, “I will leave the tapestry here for three months. My business does not always have a fixed schedule, so I think it best to offer a fixed time. I will leave a deposit of 10% as part of this agreement, when I come to collect the tapestry, I will bring the remainder of the 200 platinum.”

“I think it only fair that I withhold the barrister’s fees from your payment, as this is your proposed solution. Is this all agreeable, Madame Nyx?”

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx considers the response for a brief moment before giving a decisive nod of agreement. "Its a fine compromise, and I find it very agreeable. You have my personal appreciation for understanding the artists wishes and being open to an alternative arrangement. Do you have a preferred barrister in mind, or do you wish for me to select one?"

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“I have a barrister in mind. She mostly consults on criminal cases nowadays, but she used to do contracts. This one should be rather straightforward. Could you point my men to the pieces here today?” Alkos sends his men to pick up the statues of the gods. As they are on their way, he opens is coin purse and separates 90 platinum, placing it in another pouch. “This shall cover my payment for Sabine’s marvelous work,” Alkos says, handing the pouch over to Nyx.

He then continues, “When should I have the papers, and the deposit for our agreement brought over for signature? I imagine it will take a couple days to draft up the papers. I’d hope to wrap this up by Fireday, as I plan to leave Isarn on Starday.” Alkos lets out a slight chuckle as he stretches out his back. “Such is the life of a merchant, no opportunity to settle down, even at this age.”

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx slips into a more casual and relaxed vibe now that the negotiations were largely over and it was merely working through the fine print. With an elegant motion she directs the men to Sabine's sculptures before keeping her attention on Alkos.

"If you know a reliable barrister, feel free to use her for this business topic" she responds, reflecting grimly that her own barrister she might have recommended was currently locked up at the moment. When Alkos hands over the pouch, Nyx doesn't do him a disservice by by recounting it out in front of him, she knows by now that Alkos is a relatively fair merchant. She does however, immediately count out Sabine's share, pressing the coins into her courtesan's hand lightly.

"I can actually relate a little, since I have started managing the Melody I'v barely had a moment to relax to myself - the work never stops. Hopefully however, your time in the Melody hasn't been too tiring" Nyx responds in a teasing tone, before giving an ambivalent shrug. "I'll be ready whenever the paperwork is ready. There isn't any real rush - but like you, I'd prefer if we can wrap things up. You could talk to your barrister, work out a time and day that suits, and then notify me. I'll adjust my schedule accordingly."

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“I appreciate your being so accommodating. Being accommodating is so often mistaken for weakness in negotiations. I’ll ask to have the papers dropped off by early Fireday at the latest, for collection later that evening.”

Alkos, seeing his men return smiled and continued, “Now, if that is all, I do have some other business I must attend to. Au Revoir, Madame Nyx.” Alkos took Sabine’s hand and kissed it, the left the Melody, flanked by his movers.

"If only all our clients could be as charming as Alkos" Nyx mummers to Sabine in an undertone as the man leaves the gallery, before regathering herself, hyper aware that as usual, there was much that still required her attention.

"I can handle the front desk for the rest of the day, if you have anything of note you need to do Sabine, but I'll need you, if possible, to ensure that you or Gaspard can organize cover for this evening. I have a dinner to attend and I am unsure what time exactly I will return." Nyx responds lightly, trying to remember who was doing what on the roster for the day and thinking ahead to see if her own recent plans could cause a conflict.

I'm unsure what time it is at present (sometime in the afternoon around 3:30 I'd estimate), but Nyx has plenty to do at the Melody before dinner, such as manage the Melody, work on her paintings, or get ready for the dinner. She would probably stay at the Melody from now until then unless something sudden came up.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx spends the rest of the day managing the accounts of the Melody. After Alkos had purchased the items, there were now several affairs to manage, such as the upkeep of the building, the wages for her staff, and the management of several funds that ranged from the ability to stock the Melody with art supplies, to a small fund she keeps topped up in case a civil servant needed influencing. She also reassesses her budget plans in light of the recent transactions, checking to see where she stands in order to juggle the demands of a courtesan art gallery.

Once completed, Nyx returns to the painting she plans to eventually gift to the Court. She continues to take her time on it as she doesn’t want to lower anyone’s opinion of her based off s final submission.

As it gets closer to 6:30PM Nyx begins to ready herself for the dinner. She retreats to her private chambers and spends some time selecting her dress, eventually going for a sensational black gown - one of Raymond’s more expensive outfits. She reluctantly wears heels, and takes along a small bag with a shoulder strap. The bag has a bottle of wine inside it, as a gesture of hospitality, along with what looks to be a makeup case. The bottles are actually Nyx’s elixirs for the day - there in plain sight but disguised so as to not be obvious.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

While most of the city would be winding down this close to sunset, La Lumiere Rouge was quite busy. Some less prestigious citizens filing out of their various pleasure houses, some more influential ones just arriving. Nyx’s outfit drew attention from both crowds.

Making her way deftly through the crowds and traffic she well understood, Nyx made it to the gates of Vieille Ville in excellent time. Close to dusk, there were extra patrols, but after seeing Nyx’s attire, the guard merely requested a quick review of her finery permit before allowing her through the gates.

Inside Vieille Ville, there is none of the usual hustle around dusk, those within the walls are still strolling casually. Nyx arrives outside the Louis Vauquelin Clothing Company at 7 pm. Her knock is promptly answered by Raymond. He has changed his clothes since work, at a quick glance his clothes look no less comfortable than earlier in the day, but a closer inspection reveals the clothes are cut to allow a full range of movement. Nyx recognizes the cut from her own clothes she’s requested from Raymond. He’s wearing a dark blue vest, with a collared shirt under it. His top two buttons are undone and his sleeves rolled up. His long pants ran down to a pair of boots, though this pair was obviously more for walking around town than presentation, despite the polish and care given to them. There’s some sweat and condensation on his bald brow, and his spectacles fogged, ruining the appearance of togetherness of his clothes so expertly managed.

“Ah Madame Illisha, so lovely to see you. You’ll have to pardon my appearance, I was just getting the stew going, and looking over a hot stove just doesn’t serve my appearance well.” He opens the door fully making a gesture to come inside. “Do come join me in the kitchen. The stew should be a good while yet, but it should only need to simmer.” Walking through the dark clothing store, candlestick in hand, Raymond makes his way behind the counter and opens a door to the back. Immediately to the left is another door leading up to his loft.

Entering the rather large apartment, the upper floor of the LVCC, Nyx sees several pieces of classical Galtan art hung up, and a few pieces she recognizes from the Melody, including the statue of Shelyn he purchased most recently. “Is there anything you’d like to put down?” Raymond offered, seeing Nyx’s bag. Noticing the wine, he made his way to cabinet, pulling out two wine glasses. “Ah you brought wine. How excellent!” After quickly checking the stew one more time, he made his way over to his table, large enough to seat six, and put glasses down on opposite sides of the narrow ends. “Come, sit. Did you consider last night’s gala a success?”

"Nonsense Raymond, your appearance is remarkable for someone managing to prepare food while simply looking fashionable doing it." Nyx responds easily, stepping over the threshold and following Raymond through the darkened room. Truthfully, she hadn't visited Raymond's apartment before, so its with a curious air that she glances around the upper floor, her eyes lingering on several of the classic art.

"I'll keep my makeup bag close by, you never know, after all, if a fashion disaster is around the corner" she remarks with a light chuckle, one hand protectively over her bag as she hands the wine to Raymond. "I understand its an excellent vintage - or it hopefully is as I spent a fair amount purchasing it. I hoped it would accompany whatever you decided to cook" she continues, lightly seating herself at the mans instruction, the wine glass in front of her.

"Interesting question. I consider the gala a financial success perhaps, it also created a few complications, so maybe slightly less of a success than I had hoped for. You know, you should really do something similar with the LVCC. A fashion show maybe. I'm sure you would get a number of interested parties, and speaking from experience, the social events themselves are fun to run - regardless as to how successful they end up being."

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

Inspecting the label on the bottle, Raymond concludes, “It seems like an excellent wine, I look forward to it.” cracking the bottle and pouring it into the glasses.

“Complications? That sounds unfortunate. I noticed the Delons decided to show up. They like to make things difficult.” Raymond takes a sniff of the wine, then takes a sip as he considers Nyx’s suggestion.

“Perhaps. I doubt there are many people who would be convinced to wear finery that do not already seek it... And I doubt the Chairman would want me to show off finery...” After a pause, he continued, “And some halfling came in and tried to burgle my store today. Not just some thug either, used magic on my poor attendant. I managed to track him down and reclaim the stolen materials. It was not easy, but thankfully there was no altercation. I doubt more attention would do me much good.” With that, Raymond took a deep sip of wine. “I guess it’s been a long day for us both.”

"It was nice to see them, as they tend to keep to themselves, but at the same time, their presence always brings...complications" Nyx allows herself to say, not really in the habit of whinging much, and not really wanting to publicly mention her own problems - for fear that it encouraged a perceived weakness.

"Despicable really, that someone would attempt to steal from you, it shows both a lack of respect and intelligence" Nyx responds to Raymond's own problems, wondering who would be stupid enough to try and burgle Raymond, and the support he might have from those he clothed.

"Still, a particularly trying day, is also a perfect day to be improved by enjoying a good meal and appreciating some fine artwork" Nyx continues, sipping her wine as well, savoring the taste.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“It’s flattering that you believe I have such sway. I have some powerful supporters, but my detractors are far more passionate and numerous. Aside from the Court of Bees, nobody dare speak too passionately about finery. It’s considered a necessary evil.” Raymond says disappointed.

He then changes the topic, “Let’s not let the evening be so bleak. Instead, may I ask you something? Your talents as a courtesan are well known, but I know your artwork is just as exceptional, if not as lauded.” Raymond points to a pair of pieces Nyx had painted during her time training at the Melody. “What draws you to art? I find people always have their own reasons, and the answers are usually quite telling.”

Nyx understands that the question is not asked just out of idle curiosity.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx reflects for the moment, aware that Raymond was driving towards a particular point and wondering what sort of answer he was looking for. She had her own reasons, and didn't like revealing too much, worrying that it would give people a deeper read into her motives.

That said, Nyx considered herself known for her subterfuge, and so decided to give an accurate and truthful answer, for once, especially when she was trying to learn a little more about Raymond herself.

"I like the fact that I can enforce my own will upon my creation, I can paint or sketch in my own image and create and idealized version. So there is an element of freedom and control that I both appreciate. In regards to observing other peoples artwork, I like observing it, finding the artists own hidden messages and desires. Usually most artists have a story - if you know where to look you can find it."

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“You consider art intensely personal, then? I figured as much from your pieces. I believe there is a lot that can be learned about contemporary artists through their works. For example, your early pieces show a sense of hiding something of yourself. I have no intention of pressing you on that, I know it can come with your trade.” Raymond pauses briefly, taking a sip from his glass before continuing, “But I tend to view art more as a way to understand the era in which is was created, rather than the artist themselves. It’s difficult to tell what an individual raised in such different circumstances is trying to express without understanding the era. To me, art is a sort of historical record.”

“I’d love to know what you think of a certain piece, if you don’t mind indulging me.” He stands up with his glass, and goes over to a sheet draped over a 3’ x 4’ canvas. He pulls the sheet off to expose an impressionist piece depicting the plaza on Le Avenue Champs-Élysées, but it looks quite different from how Nyx now knows the location. The most striking difference is the center of the plaza, which has a statue of Aroden, rather than Alseta. The plaza’s market is packed with vendors whose stands are filled with fresh fruits, flowers, and other wares compared with the meager stands Nyx is accustomed to. The buildings along the plaza are all in perfect condition. The painting comes from a high angle, presumably a 3rd story window looking down over the plaza. The light of the midday sun fills the plaza as children run around the center of plaza while adults search the stands. No panhandlers seem to line the alleys. The painter is using bold colors, both for the vivid paint on the buildings, long since faded, and in the clothes of the citizens.

Knowledge History (untrained DC 5): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

The piece is certainly pre-revolutionary, pre-Thune even, from the looks of the Aroden statue. A piece showing the days before the Revolution so fondly, would be destroyed by several of the more fanatical Councils if it were known. While the painting itself is not strictly illegal to own, there are several citizens who have been deemed Enemies of the Revolution for having such pieces. Raymond is studying Nyx as he takes a sip from his glass.

"Its beautiful" Ny murmurs to herself as she traces the brushwork - not touching the painting itself but instead tracing patterns in the air, before looking up and addressing Raymonds gaze.

"It would help, if I knew the artist in question or exactly when it was painted. Even though it depicts a pre-revolution era, it doesn't always mean it was painted in that time period" Nyx continues, eyes flickering back towards the painting thoughtfully.

"The picture of Aroden is a strong hint, Aroden being the god of History, Innovation, and Culture - all themes the artist is trying to invoke within this painting. Even though its pre-revolution, it still shows much of the vision of Galt the revolutionary's still hold dear, a Galt that is proud of its history - including its many revolutions, a Galt the learns from the past, embodies a strong culture, with one eye on the future and innovation."

Nyx relaxes before smiling at Raymond. "Its certainly an interesting painting, and something that I'm sure wasn't easy for you to collect."

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“I’m glad that you see the pride in this painting. Pride in the past is somewhat rare these days, the Revolution has swallowed up some truths about our past. It can be dastardly, malicious, even... Thrunish, I dare say. The last words escape his lips in a hushed voice. They weren’t outright treasonous, but could certainly cause trouble.

Raymond then speaks more confidently, “I take special interest in collecting and preserving such pieces of Galt’s artistic past. And you’re certainly right that some of them are rather difficult to acquire. I thought you might share an interest in such pieces.”

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 + 1d8 ⇒ (17) + 12 + (4) = 33
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 + 1d8 ⇒ (6) + 12 + (1) = 19

The last statement seemed almost leading to Nyx. Raymond is asking for her trust and interest in a somewhat treasonous endeavor.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx takes a brief pause for the moment, before answering Raymonds query, careful to frame it in a non treasonous way.

"I think every successful revolution learns from the past and history. So of course, as a loyal citizen I would always seek out an opportunity in preserving elements of Galt's artistic past so that we can learn from the past and build a bright future within the Revolution" she responds, with a bright smile at the end.

Nyx agrees with Raymonds proposal, she is just trying to agree to it without compromising herself further down the line.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

Raymond smiled genuinely and his demeanor relaxed. “It takes courage to say that, Madame Nyx. But with that said, let me put your mind at ease. These quarters, the office, and the fitting rooms are warded against magic intrusion. Way back before the Revolution, when an establishment like this was rich in coin and the center of some vicious squabbles among the rich, previous owners paid to put up permanent wards against magical intrusion. Thankfully, it was a common practice in the past for those with coin, I’d never have such gold lying around these days.”

Raymond then walked over to his bookshelf and pulled out a book, opening it to a marked page. He moved back to the table, placing the open book on it. The open page showed a famous painting, one formerly in the Galt National Gallery. The painting is famous for its depiction of the large Chelish force seizing Isarn from Taldan forces during the Even-Tongue Conquest. “The painting has managed to survive so long despite depicting Chelish success because the painting is inherently revolutionary. The yoke of the Taldan empire was overthrown in that battle. However, Goss’s rhetoric has grown very xenophobic, and I suspect that this painting will be destroyed before long. It currently resides in the estate of a merchant, though how he came to acquire it, I do not know.”

“In the past, I’ve been willing to simply take such pieces. However, I do not know if there is an imminent danger to the painting, and the merchant with the piece has the resources to track us down if he realizes it stolen. This is where your skills come in, Ms. Nyx: I’d like you to reproduce the piece within the next two weeks. We hope to replace the original with a forgery while it is removed from Galt, sending it to a safer home.”

Nyx considers the matter thoughtfully, trying to give Raymond no hint whatsoever to her thoughts. She taps her chin thoughtfully, giving the picture of the painting an idle look, but nothing more.

"You seem to be fairly confident in some of my talents, as you ask me to reproduce a masterpiece, based off a picture in a book, inside of two weeks, and then switch the painting without anyone being any wiser."

Nyx pauses, reflecting for a moment, turning the situation over in her mind as she did so. In truth, what Raymond was asking was not impossible, but it was difficult to do, especially for something that needed to be perfect by a deadline.

"The minor shortfall in your idea, is that you are pushing quality into a short timeframe. Your merchant may have a keen eye for art, or maybe not, but his buyers will, so the painting needs to be perfect. There are only a few people with the skill to make such a copy - it would inevitably lead back to the Unchained Melody should a copy be discovered."

Signing quietly, Eris glances at the book again before shrugging. "I'd like to save this painting if I could, but I'm not endangering the Melody because of it. I'd be willing to do what I can, but not until I'm satisfied that the risk is minimal to the Melody, as well as the identity of the merchant himself. I'd also expect to get something of value in return, and the location / owner of the safe home that the painting would go to. Are any of my terms unfair?"

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

Raymond takes a moment to mull over Nyx’s response. “I had no intention of you participating in the swap. There are several rumors of your talent Madame Nyx, though I rarely put much faith in rumor. Your paintings, though; there I know your skills are up to the task. As for the quality of the forgery, it’s possible we could push off the swap, but there is an opportunity in two weeks where we believe the switch will be safer to make. A source of mine has told me that the [Revolutionary] Council is likely take action against the painting in short order, and the longer we wait, the greater the chance the painting is lost to history.” Raymond addresses the first of Nyx’s questions as he makes his way over to the stove and begins serving the stew, placing the bowls on the table.

Taking a seat with a sigh, Raymond continues, ”Of course, concern for yourself and your workers is warranted. The only solace I can offer you there is that your forgery is likely not long for this world once we complete the swap, as agents of the [Revolutionary] Council will confiscate and destroy the painting before too long. While I am not certain how keen an eye the merchant has, I am certain those who take it will not bother to authenticate the piece.”

”I can certainly help cover the cost of your forgery, and other expenses you incur, but otherwise, there is little room for profit. All the pieces our group saves go to museums, often in Andoran, but some pieces travel elsewhere. With the costs to smuggle the paintings, this isn’t a profitable operation. I can probably gather some compensation for your effort, but I have to admit that this undertaking must come from a place of love for art and its place in Galt’s history. I’m sorry that I cannot offer you more than that, but the work we undertake comes with risk, and little profit; I respect you too much to be less than honest about what I am asking. Before hearing Nyx’s response Raymond nervously adds, “I don’t need an answer right now, but I hope you’ll consider it.”

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx mulls things over, thinking intently on the offer. In truth, if the painting was certain to be destroyed, then any risks with creating a forgery would likely be mitigated, therefore decreasing the risks involved.

"I understand that there is little profit involved in this. Protecting secret works is unlikely to pay well, however, I'm pointing out that my time is valuable, and spending large portions of it on charity, takes time away from managing the Melody, and therefore leaves me less time to run my business adequately."

Nyx pauses for a movement before raising an elegant hand, forestalling any protests. "I'll consider your request Raymond, but if I did this, I'll want something in return, something non financial. The time might come in the future where I would require your assistance, or a favor with something, and all I would ask that you remember me if or when that time comes."

This is, in essence, exactly how Nyx operates (or wants to operate). Maximise enough profits to keep the Melody running / afloat and the staff happy, and then forgo any attempts at further profits in favor of getting friends in high places, or currying favor, learning secrets etc etc.

In terms of a favor she might ask Raymond (or anyone she works with) to do, it wouldn't be anything particularly risky, maybe an introduction of someone important, some information he might know, maybe an alibi or borrowing one of his connections etc. Nothing super treasonous just a quid pro thing.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

“That’s agreeable Madame Nyx. I’ll confer with my associates to get some preparations under way. When I hear from you”[b], Raymond said trying to nudge Nyx, “I’ll send over some gold to help cover the costs of your work, and a bonus on completion. Until then, let’s eat.” Raymond begins to dig into the thick stew he had prepared, savoring the rich flavors that one can so rarely enjoy in Galt.

You’re welcome to dig into further topics of conversation, but you’re also welcome to stick to small talk and skip to the end of dinner.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Making some small talk, testing the waters to see if he knows anything about her that I could use towards helping us handle the Pauline situation.

"Its exceptionally tasty" Nyx remarks, after a few moments of eating in silence, enjoying the taste of a well cooked meal. "Just out of curiosity Raymond, have you heard of the rather influential City Guard Jocelyn Juste? Apparently she is doing wonders cleaning up the streets these days. I don't know if she frequents your shop, but I do know that you seem to know a little bit about everyone these days, and wondered if you had crossed paths with her before"

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

After finishing his current bite, Raymond thinks back for a moment. “Much of the city guard cannot afford my work, and none of them SHOULD be able to. The fact that I don’t know her is probably for the best. I’ve heard some rumors, of course, but mostly of some city officials complaining that she basically claimed the seat, rather than being appointed. If you’d like more information, I know a tailor along La Rue De Pain, her name is Bernadette. She is skilled enough, and makes uniforms for several officers. She’s likely to know more than me about madame Juste. If you tell her I sent you, she’ll likely part with the information easily this time.”

Raymond grabs a scrap of paper from a notepad on a nearby counter, scribbling down an address near Talmandor’s Doctrine.

“I did not think you’d be interested in an honest officer of the law. You’re not planning to go and turn me in right away, are you?” Raymond joked.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx smiled and gave a light laugh at Raymonds joke. "Actually I had a friend that happened to run into a little bit of trouble with the law. Its nothing serious, but from what I heard, Juste is a bit of a straight arrow, so its unlikely she cares about influence in regards to mitigation. Its nothing much to worry about, but I might take you up on that source, this...Bernadette. I'm much obliged Raymond"

Thats probably the big topic I wanted to briefly cover, since while there are other people I could pick is brain about, I don't want to make it look like I'm freeloading off him. I'm happy making small talk for the rest of the night after having a minor lead. I don't want to involve him in Pauline yet since thats a pretty serious thing and don't know how he would react.

The Galt Gazette - Player's Folder - Chronometer

"Of course, consider it a sign of good will. I hope your friend gets their issue sorted out." Raymond adds.

The rest of the evening whiles away with small talk about art coming out from the Melody, new styles outside Galt, and some new designs Raymond has plan. After finishing dinner and some more wine, Raymond escorts Nyx back to the entrance of the shop. He offers, as a matter of courtesy, to escort her back to her establishment. He quickly obilges, or accepts should Nyx refuse.

As a note, you are further ahead than some of the other members of the Council. Whether you want to do something else tonight or move on to tomorrow, we have time to fill in your time.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx politely declines Raymonds offer of assistance as a mater of courtesy. She knows it was offered for politeness sake, but Nyx still remains determined to 'own' the streets of Galt as own, and not be worried or intimidated by the night and its dangers.

I'm not opposed to any night time activities or tasks, but I think the people I want to speak with are mostly sleeping at present (ie perhaps that tailor), so unless there are any unplanned encounters, I'll probably have Nyx had back. If the Melody requires attention or her presence, she will, of course, go there, but otherwise she might find the nearest tavern and blend into the crowd, seeking to keep an air out for rumors etc.

If nothing else, Nyx likes to be out and about, rather than isolationist and likes to at least give the apperance that she has a finger on the pulse of Galt. Nothing has to happen at a Tavern (or after she leaves Raymonds place), but just advising where and why she spends her time and perhaps an informal routine.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Change of plans, after discord discussion, I'm going to try and see if I can push ahead with this rudimentary plan to see if I can find the route.

Nyx heads into the dark streets of Sud Rivière, trying to look like an easy and vulnerable target. Worried that if people knew exactly who she was, they might not make a move, she adopts a simple disguise of an attractive female close to her own age, in an attempt to encourage, rather than discourage an attack.

Nyx chooses location carefully, because not only does she want to draw out an attack, but she wants to be in a position for the guards to be nearby. From what she understands, Guard Captain Jocelyn Juste would be treating the district with great care, especially if it was going to be instrumental in an important prisoner transfer. Perhaps by baiting an attack, would therefore open a door for Nyx to meet this Jocelyn Juste, perhaps even getting a sympathetic response.

coming from a nearby street. Looking for trouble, Nyx alters her gait to run into the group, based on sound of their voices. As the group of Caydogs turn the corner, Nyx is but a few paces from them.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

The group consists of four Caydogs, one a tall strapping man carrying a flagon in one hand leading a chant to the Lucky Drunk, one has several vials on him and his skin wrinkled from years of heavy drinking and magical vapors. Two younger members accompany them, scrawny and singing along in the tall man’s chanting.

Almost running into Nyx, one of the younger recruits says, “How lucky, boss. Running into some pretty thing on the way to the fight.” The tall man looks down at Nyx. It is obvious that while he’s certainly had a few drinks, the tall man does not show the signs of drunkenness Nyx sees all too often around La Lumiere Rouge. “Say, little gal, how about you join us tonight? We’re about to go down to the pits, and put on a show, want to join us? I’ll even give you some betting tips, and I’m sure you’ll make a pretty penny.” The man’s bearing is imposing, and while there’s nothing threatening in his words, Nyx gets the idea that he’s keen on having her join.

Nyx’s gauging is incomplete from a quick reaction, but she can tell that the tall man and the wrinkled man are at approximately her CR, and the two younger recruits are well below her CR. Nyx can continue the conversation to get a more precise understanding.

Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 1d8 + 18 ⇒ (13) + (1) + 18 = 32

Nyx knows vaguely of an arena in the catacombs, but knows few details about it. It's kept pretty quiet.

Female Half-Elf Investigator 7 HP: 45/45 | AC:13 T: 11 FF: 13 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Perception: +14 Sense Motive +12 | Initiative: +2 | Inspiration: 9/9

Nyx isn't initially prepared to be running into a group of four Caydogs, initially hoping to only be a target for a single opportunist. That said, she wasn't going to turn up any sort of opportunity if she could help it, so she turns to the group, giving them a quick once over.

From the conversation, Nyx knew that the younger men were recruits, and unlikely to show much initiative, everything was on how the two other men would react.

"I'm sorry sirs, to miss out on what I'm sure would be an exciting show, but it is late, and I have to be going. Perhaps another time" she responds, trying to be firm, dismissive even, but she accidentally puts a quaver into her tone to make her sound as if she was easily intimidated, but trying to put a brave front on.

“That’s a shame,” says the tall man, “And here I was hoping we could all make some coin and have a great time together.” Sighing, he nods to the recruits, who pull back their jackets to purposely show off knives sheathed in their belts as they approach Nyx, one beginning to move behind her. “You’re still willing to bet on a champion, right? Even if you go home, you’ll want my boys here to bet on me for you, right? We can still make you a nice windfall. Give us your bet, and we can give you your cut of the winnings later?”

The wrinkled man simply leans against the wall, popping open a flask and taking a sip. The tall man remains several feet away from Nyx, posturing as his two underlings approach Nyx.

Well, you’re not bluffing being shaken anymore.

Nyx glances at the man with as much disdain as possible. Truthfully, part of her itches to stride forward and plunge her (currently hidden) blade right into the mans chest. Doubtless this man had made similar advances in the past, and Nyx hated thuggish intimidation.

Still, Nyx hadn't survived in Galt for as long as she had by acting rashly. There were four enemies, and Nyx wasn't quite reckless enough to engage all of them. In addition, she actually wanted to play the victim, stall for him, so that the guards could show up letting Nyx try her hand at a little infiltration. On the other hand, four enemies could escalate things exceptionally quickly, so she had to think of an appropriate middle ground.

Taking the opportunity to think, Nyx lightly weaved a hand into her perfume bag, with a hand lightly clutched around an extract. Nyx had spent long hours crafting her extract containers to look like makeup, perfume, and other accessories. In fact, there was real perfume and accessories in the bag as well, all to aid in the deception. She raises a slim eyebrow at the tall man, letting him see her slightly shaking hands. "May I?" she asks, banking on the fact that he probably wouldn't see much threat in her prettying herself up, making seeing it as a sign of submission.

Extract is Spider Climb, which she drinks if he doesn't appear to be stopping her. If he takes issue, then she doesn't drink it and puts it back, continuing the conversation as normal below. Rolling Sleight of Hand in case there is a check involved but I'm not really hiding what I'm doing, just making it less recognizable than an obvious extract.

"I have nothing against betting on a champion" Nyx responded evenly, glancing at the lead speaker. "Champions are brave, courageous. They take fights against those stronger than them, the push the boundaries, and look for the next challenge. They always fight their own battles. Losers are a different story. Most of them seek easy fights against people weaker or more vulnerable than themselves, easy wins of course, which means easy coin, but the stakes are never particularly high, so they never end up being very successful, and they also never become true champions, or proper fighters because they never challenge themselves against skilled opponents. Most are bullies, blaming others for their failure to find success."

Nyx pauses, moving in tandem with the man behind her, preventing him from trying to find a successful flank, trying to put her back against a wall. It cut off her retreat options, but it also reduced the chances of fighting multiple enemies at once.

"I see two men trying to intimidate a defenseless woman trying to make it home for the night, threatening her with blades. I see a tall men, their boss perhaps, letting others fight his battles for him. Perhaps he finds women intimidating. Maybe he needs the moral support of three friends to approach one in simple conversation. So to answer your question, yes, I don't have any problem betting on a champion...when I see one." Nyx responds, drawing him a picture with her words, subtly pointing out that he fitted the 'loser' category she had described almost perfectly.

Shaken Bluff: 1d20 + 19 + 1d8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 19 + (8) + 1 - 2 = 34

I'm sure I need a Bluff check somewhere in here to sell all of this, be it the extract I'm drinking, or the slight falsehood that I'm 'defenseless' when I have a rapier hidden on my person. If its a Sleight of Hand check to hide my rapier as part of my disguise (as I would since it makes me more of a target), then see below.

Sleight of Hand Weapon Hiding: 1d20 + 12 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 12 + (4) + 1 = 36
Technically not shaken since the check would have been made prior to intimidation, but if not subtract 2.
