The only thing they'll need to get over is the "fear" that people might not buy the book. If they clearly indicate that the NPC Codex 2 features material from The Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat and possibly The Advanced Races' Guide, 3 things might happen.
1) People will buy the book, and that's it, because they already have the other books.
2) People will buy the book, but also the other books to follow it better, not to mention that they are valuable books to use.
3) People will not buy the book.

You have 2 out of 3 chances to someone will buy a book called NPC Codex 2 if you indicates that the book will use stuff from other books.

I'd like a new codex with NPCs for the new classes, new PrCs and new iconics, but that might never happen because Paizo seems to be "scared" of not pleasing the crowd, when they shouldn't be "scared". The Advanced Races' Guide made use of a bunch of stuff that wasn't found in the Player's Handbook. Did that hurt their sell numbers?

"Oh? What's this about an Alchemist/Magus/Gunslinger? Hmmm... I'll purchase the corresponding book(s) to check it out."

It's a win-win situation IMO. You sell a new book and you also sell other books in the process. Is it fair? Yes, especially if you advise buyers of what they might find in the book.

P.S. @ Paizo Staff: No, I'm not calling you chickens or anything, but if what I explain is such a concern to you, then you do not need to worry about it.

I'd buy Bestiary 4, 5, and 6 before NPC Codex 2. If they release NPC Codex 2, I'll probably buy the PDF. For any bestiary, I WILL buy both the PDF and the hardcover.

Well...they have sales figures, which really are worth more than message board opinions. If NPC codex sells/sold well, than we will see a NPC codex 2. If it didn't, it's unlikely that that we will see more volume.

I think the NPC codex is an invaluable resource for opposed skill checks, mass combat, random encounters where you get group of bandits, you get guest players and you don't want to waste time rolling up for them, especially say you are in an adventure path and everyone is floating at 10th level.

Some sort of hybrid NPC codex bestiary would rule, like what does a gargoyle rogue look like, what if your character wanted to be friends with it.

In my opinion, PF needs more high level monsters, evil NPCs at such a high level, the stat blocks of the Deities, what if your PCs wanted to take down Desna for example.. that would be of extreme interest. What I did like in the Codex was tips for how to put together a challenging encounter....

This would be cool for 2014, but for this year I don't want a hybrid, small bestiary like Inner Sea or 100% human book, I just want a bestiary 4 cuz I wished so much these last years and i'm curious as what made it into the final product.

Also there are more than enough humans as it is :p

Not only is the NPC Codex incredibly useful, it's handy for character creation - I've 'worked backward' the levels on some of the concept NPCs when building characters, and the iconic stat blocks can be very instructive when you're explaining to someone how to plan out their character and helps to gauge how much gear and what type is appropriate for each level.

I would love to see some samurai, ninja, gunslingers, 'monstrous' races, and 1st, 7th and 12th level stat blocks for the rest of the iconics. I use these as pre-gens for module/beginner games from time to time.

I already have an incredible variety of monsters to choose from with Bestiary books in print now.

And you do not have an incredibly amount of humans te work with?

Liberty's Edge

I don't really need the APG classes all 20 levels. I would rather see classed monsters. Like goblin chieftain, orc champion, kobold trapsmith, catfolk ranger, gnoll shaman, etc. Similar to monster manual iv or v. Can't remember which did that.

I'd rather see the monsters with classes in an altogether different book, one like Savage Species (Let's call it the Advanced Monster Codex :) that gives other monster customization stuff as well, like additional feats, templates, etc. in addition to a bunch of static monsters.

Because unless one of those monsters is exactly what you want, it's kinda just taking up space. I'd rather have a set of Tinkertoys or LEGOs than have someone hand me a model kit they built - no matter how cool the model is it's still of use in far more limited number of situations.

However, I definitely would like to see an APG NPC Codex ... but I'd prefer to see the Advanced Monster Codex first :)

I want both. I love the NPC Codex, and would buy another in a heartbeat. A monster version would also be to my liking.

Casting resurrection on this thread -

At this point, we have quite a few new base classes, iconics, and prestige classes to warrant an NPC codex 2, 3, and possibly 4. Sadly, I don't know if sales figures would support such an effort.

Monster codex was nice, villain codex was a bit all over the place.

I cannot echo the general sentiment of this thread enough on a level that essentially amounts to 'reblog until I die.'

I recognize we're all sort of whispering desperately into the void at this point... but I just switched to Pathfinder about 8 months ago and scooped up NPC Codex. I was so blow away by it as a resource.

The art alone is worth the price of admission but the ability to open up the book and pull out any of the core classes (or NPC classes?!) at ANY level (alright, fine, up to 10 for the NPCs), that's insane. The fact you can easily reskin any of those from human/halfling/gnome or whatever to orc, gnoll, grimlock or any other monstrous race?

The book is literally an all levels Monster Manual for EVERY HUMANOID EVER. Need an orcish warband? Boom, reskin some fighters and barbarians. Need some drow assassins? Boom, reskin some rogues and rangers. And on and on. Need a hobgoblin warpriest? Snag a cleric. And of course it's useful

I literally can't imagine the boundless versatility this book offers being matched en mass by any other Beastiary book. And I have love for the Beastiaries to be sure.

Only upon hitting the forums did I even realize NPC Codex came out like... early in the decade?

I honestly can't imagine a sourcebook with a wider use to a GM than a follow-up with the base and hybrid classes and maybe the occult and others.

So not that I expect anything to come of it, but honestly, Paizo, pretty please, NPC Codex 2. Even if it's PDF only or something.

I would love to see the NPC codex 2 with the base classes (Alchemist, Cavalier, Gunslinger, Inquisitor, Magus, Oracle, Shifter, Summoner, Vigilant and Witch).

Liberty's Edge

I, too, would have loved to have seen an NPC Codex 2 with NPCs from all the other classes. Of course, all of this has become moot with Paizo moving on to a new edition.
