Will PFO have it?

I am as good as blind; hot keys and auto-follow are my best friends when playing other MMO's.

Cheers!

I think this is one of those standard MMO features that you can presume will be added.
I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be.

I'm visually impaired too, though to a lesser degree, I would guess. I was just thinking of starting a thread for asking GW to remember to make their game accessible to people with visual and other issues that can make a game too difficult or even impossible for some.

In my case, I'm asking to make the UI uncluttered and moddable. Allow fonts to be resizable, let us put light text over a dark background, and even add voiceovers where possible. Make action icons clear and simple rather than pictures shrunk down to the point that their just a garbled mess. Better yet, give a few different styles of icons and other UI elements for us to pick from.

AbleGamers is an advocacy organization that seeks to make games more accessible to gamers who have disabilities. I think GW could pledge to work with them to develop accessibility options and they could promote Pathfinder Online on their site in order to help boost the Kickstarter.

Thanks!

In the goblinworks blog «The action bar also corresponds to hotkeys. The first 10 slots correspond to the number keys 1–10. The second 10 slots correspond to the function keys F1–F10. Of course, we anticipate that you'll be able to customize these keybindings if you don't want to use these defaults. And you'll also be able to activate these actions by clicking the action bar with your mouse pointer.»

I don't understand. what is auto-follow?

Goblin Squad Member

Auto follow is a feature where you target a party member, and your avatar will follow theirs without you having to do so.

ot is used by people who do not know where they are going and are afraid to get lost, by as the earlier posts mentioned people who cannot see well, lastly by very lazy individuals who just cannot stand walking for 20 min and lets someone else do the work.

their is one point of the feature that is kind of neat. if you can get 10 20 30 people together and get them to follow each other you can make a train or walk single file (very accuratlyP I might add. something for you military types and law and order people to think about if you do not already know.

Its also used by people that Multi-box, and by some bots.

I think it should be added, but it would be nice if there was someway to defeat bots using it.

Well the fact that you can get ambushed is a pretty good deterrent to botting and using auto-follow without paying attention.

Good point, but we will just have to see how it works out.

Yes, please, especially the resizable fonts and light text/dark background! I have chronic corneal dystrophy, and these two options alone would make the UI much easier to read.

Disincluding features that make a game accessible to more players, just because someone will figure out a way to abuse it, is not only a d!@#-move, it's a lost cause. Automation will happen. Design in such a way that it either doesn't produce valuable results, or it doesn't disturb regular players. Beyond that, defeating bots is up to the players, not the game. A player at a keyboard is creative; a bot isn't. Abuse their scripting to mess with them, preferably to your own advantage. You do it all the time when the bot is controlled by the server, and in a PVP environment, it's even easier to make someone's bot your content.

I think auto-follow on group members should be perfect, in that it's impossible to fall off a cliff if the person I'm auto-following didn't fall. Or if my target jumps over a fence, I should do so as well. It should be impossible for me to get separated from my auto-follow target if they're a group member.

I think auto-follow on hostiles should be the standard auto-follow we see in most games, where if my target hops over a fence and I don't just at the right time, I get stuck. I also think that auto-following hostiles should require you to maintain them as your target, and it should be easy to "lose" someone by ducking around a tree, or some other object that breaks line-of-sight.

Keovar, nice to know I'm not the only one. Maybe with multiple voices GW will hear us. :)

I have always been legally blind, but a few adjustments like text colors, text size and that sort of thing was enough. But a few years ago bad things started happening and I have almost no sight at all.

I still play Lord of the Rings Online, the reason I was attracted to it was for the things you mentioned, I could play around with the text in the chats and floating names.

I'm glad to know that PFO will have a lot less hotkeys to remember. In LOTRO I have to remember some 60-odd combinations in order to use all of my character's abilities in the game. I like the idea of PFO also because there's more to the game that I could get into other than massive raids and stuff where being able to see the screen is most beneficial.

I do think auto follow should be included, really. Just maybe it should randomly drop so that people will have to pay attention. However since that would be a pain for real players maybe something that makes you have to hit different keyboard buttons to keep the link alive.

Yeah I know its an arms race between botters and the rest of us.

I'm sure that Goblinworks, and the player base at large, will ensure that legitimate functions are added. I see no reason why this wouldn't be the case.

As for 'botters', we have an in-game solution. Assassination contracts. Shadow Haven will be more than willing to fulfill any and all contracts to eliminate pesky, vacant-minded characters from the world.

I don't understand the objection to a feature which makes things easier for everyone based on the claim that it makes things easier for people playing a different game.

I don't think that Tetrix's objection is predicated on the claim that it makes things easier for people in another game, but rather that it is a feature commonly exploited by those who run 'bot farms' for such things as the real money trading of in-game coin, as an example.

Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done about it rather than take matters into our own hands. Report suspected bots, and if in a lawless area, smack them around the head and take their stuff.
