Here is the things.
I want to make a fighter. Well I love Fighter. And we all know that fighter doesn't receive the love he deserve!
At first, I wanted a fighter built around the intimidate skill and Cornugon smash feat. This was an easy task.
Second, then I discovered the orcish eldritch heritage bloodline. And I knew that this bloodline was made for me! So I blend my 1st and 2nd. Easy task too.
Then I wanted not to be a one tricky poney, and add more on the table (after reading severals interestings posts). In my party, we have a sorceress, a cleric and a ranged ranger. So I will be the only one on the front line.
Third, so I thought about combat manoeuver like trip and disarm. That's why my idea was to begin my warrior career by a 2 level dip in monk. (manoeuver master and weapon adept archetypes).
That was the beginning of the not so easy task.
How to mix all those three wishes, and how to make them efficient?
Is my idea of 2 monk dip good?
What feats and when should I take them?
Do you have a better idea to mix those three ideas?
I have a 25 points buy. (I don’t like negative attribute and I like skills, so I thought of something like STR: 16/ Dex:14/ CON: 14/ INT:12/ WIS :14/CHAR 13)
I can use any third party books (but I really want a fighter and not a barb nor a ranger)
My DM agreed to let me change the skill focus: survival needed by Eldritch heritage orc for skill focus: Intimidate.
I know I want to do too much with this fighter but well. It will be my only char for a long time if we make it throught Kingmaker.
Two task are easy, but the eldrith heritage chain is hard to acomplish, fo the MADness but lest see what happens
For example, a human with
Spoiler:
Focused Study All humans are skillful, but some, rather than being generalists, tend to specialize in a handful of skills. At 1st, 8th, and 16th level, such humans gain Skill Focus in a skill of their choice as a bonus feat. This racial trait replaces the bonus feat trait.
manoeuver master-weapon adept 2 / Lorewarden 9
Str 16
Dex 14
con 14
int 12
wis 14
Cha 13
i'd suggest a human (for the bonus feat) tactician(fighter) with a 4 level dip into maneuver master/sacred mountain. i'd do something like this for stats:
str 18 (16+racial) dex 15 con 14 int 10 wis 10 cha 13
i know that sounds crazy... but you'd already be getting 5 skill points/level, and flurry of maneuvers works in armor so the only penalty for wearing it (aside from losing your +0 armor bonus, or +2 in your build) is losing fast movement. the +4 from strength will help your CMB and get you a great boost from Intimidating Prowess.
i'd also suggest considering using a guisarme and focusing on trip. that way you threaten at 10' (and can trip) with your polearm, and at 5' with your unarmed strikes (with feet, elbows, head, etc). at 4th up your Dex- a breastplate will still allow full Dex bonus to AC and you'll get an extra AoO.
Since you have an archer in the group, I would suggest you be very careful with the tripping. It is often frustrating enough to get a clear shot, but when the only meleer in the group is giving you another -4 to hit instead of just attacking the opponent, that can border on infuriating.
So, maybe do some tripping situationally to keep things from charging your casters, but Guisarm + AoE trip ALL the bad guys is not very friendly towards your ranger and is bad party synergy. (If you had 3 meleers and an archer, that would be a different story, or even if the ranger was a switch hitter. But lay off the prone enemies if he wants to primarily be an archer.)
Sounds to me like you want to be a armored hulk barbarian with combat-maneuver based rage powers, plus intimidating glare and terrifying howl rage powers..
wow, i totally missed that maneuver master also replaces slow fall...
/hang head in shame
if you just drop sacred mountain i think its still a good build. pick up a mithril breastplate as early as possible so you get to keep evasion. with a guisarme (a two-handed weapon) you'll do quite a bit of damage with 1.5str and 3/1power attack- use that all the time (including AoO) for good damage and lots of free intimidates, just use trip when enemies try to pass you to melee with your archer. alternatively, you could just switch to a ranseur and use disarm instead of trip.
at 6th level, with no items, you're at +12 to disarm or trip. when you power attack (always), your ranseur damage would get +6 str and +6 power attack, and a free intimidate check with +17 (6 ranks +3 class skill, +1 Cha, +3 skill focus, +4 Str). go wherever you want from there.
if your archer friend will take improved snap shot:
str 18 (16+racial) dex 15 con 12 int 13 wis 10 cha 13
raise Dex @4, get +2 Cha item for Improved Eldritch Heritage
at 7th level, with no items, you're at +15 to trip. when you power attack (always), your guisarme damage would get +6 str and +6 power attack, and a free intimidate check with +18 (7 ranks +3 class skill, +1 Cha, +3 skill focus, +4 Str). with felling smash you can do full damage and a free trip, plus the free intimidate- and, thanks to Greater Trip, get an AoO for doing it. if the archer takes snap shot (and especially imp. snap shot) with a little work on positioning yourselves he won't mind the prone penalties when he's getting all those extra AoOs when people go down (and when they stand back up). go wherever you want from there.
i know it's a bit late for a response now (sorry, i've been busy), but i think Lore Warden is a great choice. light armor lets you keep the benefits of evasion, and the extra +2 cmb is perfect for this build. glad i could be of service, i hope you enjoy playing him.
