Nope; it's pretty much gotta be a linnorm.

Easiest thing to do is to find an already-dead linnorm.

*rolls a Bluff* Hey! That red-scaled horned head belonged to a Linnorm! It hadn't wings or legs or anything! And it wasn't I who cut the wings and legs away from that red dragon to let it look like a linnorm anyway!

No death curse on regular dragons. So no test for fortitude that a Linnorm brings. If you can't survive that, and not the killing part of the beast itself, you are not king worthy.

I had wondered if most of the Linnorm Kings where suffering from their respective curses or not.....

So it's not only slay the darn beastie....but save against it's curse as well.....SHEESH

Cast CLONE (and somehow avoiding the material component of a live linnorm). As the original linnorm is alive, you end up with a dead linnorm clone.

Turn that into a nice skull-throne, some scale&bone armor and a few weapons. Oh and more salted meat than you can ever stomach.

Or even hire someone lvl 15 to cast the clone spell for you.
One of those murder hoboes that roam the land should be persuadable :D

The problem with hiring murder-hoboes is they might get it in their head that they'd like to be king instead of you. ;)

Odds are as soon as the Clone Linnorm shows up the death curse auto-triggers. Trust me, the saves on them are monsterous.
