**EDIT** Darn, got ninja'd out of the 100 spot... Was hoping to grab it and then come up with something funnier after the fact.

What kind of bear? Brown? Blonde? Brunette?

We did it.
We won the thread and now I don't have to break up with you, Paizo forums.

Now, let's get back to the primary issue of this lady druid and her grappling problem.

Silver Crusade

I feel more research may be necessary...!

If the lady enjoys grappling, I'd hardly call that a 'problem'. I mean sure, she made a bad choice on grapple partner this time, but don't we all occasionally?

Cheliax

No no the whole point is that she made an excellent choice.

Malachi Silverclaw wrote:

I would think Brown, they're more common. Maybe with some extra fur coloration? You know how some bears get with their fur.

I agree with Lamontius. That's not to say it doesn't bear further discussion, but I think it was the right call.

I was picturing something in a saucy cinammon color.

Panda. I like my bears Asian.

Mikaze wrote:

I don't know....I can see a grappler managing a succubus-proof hold...

Attack from behind, grappler's arms up under the succubus' arms, reaching back and pulling those arms back, reach back under the succubus' wings, push them up, hands on the back of the succubus' head, holding that down, pin to the ground, knee on the back.

Completely non-sexy hold on the monk's part, and nothing the succubus can do on her part.

I'd throw in incubi handling scenarios too for equal time, but they apparently work very differently

edit-Actually, coming up with pinning visuals and strategies for beings with unusual symmetries is kinda fun. That could be a thread all on its own...

As much as I had hoped I could avoid posting to such silliness as this thread, I did like Mikaze's suggestion, so I thought I'd comment on it, and propose a compromise. I think I would rule that a pin or a hold - I'm afraid I'm not keen on wrestling, so I'm not sure quite sure what the exact difference is - could be safe, but until then, the grappler would be subject to level drain. That is, the pin would be safe, but for however many rounds it took to get there, the grappler could be in trouble. For what it's worth, I support the notion that it should be a very stupid idea to actively try to grab a succubus, though a supremely skilled - and virtuous, I expect - grappler might be able to manage it.

Umm... As you were, I suppose, guys. At least I imagine it's mainly guys posting here. ;) Congratulations on winning your thread, Lamontius. Please keep it as classy as circumstances permit, ladies and gentlemen. [/prim fairy princess]

(And not that sort of slash either! I should just stop now, before it gets any worse. I can see why the demons enjoy the temptation game so much...)

I think there's an important detail we've all overlooked: Did this druid have an animal companion? Can you Aid Another on grapple checks? Is there a trick for that, or would it require a push?

What spellcasters are in the party, besides the druid? Certain spells could've really helped your party in that situation.

Drench, Charm, Grease, Bungle, Lock Gaze, Moment of Greatness, Animate rope, Enlarge, and Magic Mouth springs to mind.

I've always said you always need an Arcane caster in every party

You can have multiple people join a single grapple, and each new person provides a bonus to the original grappler, if I recall correctly... So now we've got a succubus sandwiched between a pair of bears performing an "act of passion"... Was there a nice fire going?

Between the Aid Another/Animal Companion and the Asian Panda comment, I just finally lost it after all these shennanigans and burst out laughing for a good few minutes.

But no seriously we need to solve this issue.

There's always Dominate Monster, but I think the druid's got that covered.

Guys, if this isn't a more pressing issue than talking about why people hate paladins, then I don't know what is.

I can't muster the concentration to do anything about it, I'm spending my whole round making perception checks.

Does a Paladin fall for grappling a Succubus? What about if there's a panda involved?

Andoran

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I feel like in the future, I'm going to have my succubus baddies use either Charm Monster or Dominate Person to lure adventurers into grappling them in public, at which point they'll Energy Drain them by mentally coercing them into acts of passion and then turn the exhausted adventurers into the local constabulary on rape charges. How's that for an adventure hook?

Ow! Ooooow! my brain! Boo, foul! Now I need bleach, and a funnel I can jam into my ear.

If a Paladin pins and ties up a Succubus, does it conflict with his Bonded Mount class feature?

You probably want to leave this thread while you still can. It's not safe here. It's as treachorous as... well, as grappling a succubus.

Considering that he fell somewhere between grappling her and tying her up, I think it's a non-issue.

Nearyn you are late to the game but dang if you aren't just absolutely bringing it.

Couple of things:

First...I have a feeling this druid passed her knowledge check on the succubi then intentionally grappled the thing.

Second, the succubi needs an area effect that when any character grapples it, any character within visual range needs to make a DC 15 Will save or else be fascinated.

If the succubus is pinned...well...I don't think there's a condition nor a save that the watchers could make to break eye contact. This includes the monsters.

***EDIT***
Add +10 to the DC whenever it is the same sex.

Will there be snacks?

You might want to hold off for a bit longer on those. It uh...kind of turned into a full blown short story somewhere. Right now I'm trying to work out locations and specific religious rites.

All I can say is that the monk is based on the Qinggong monk art from Ultimate Magic and that the story is not porny, despite the elements involved.

Is it like that terrible old movie "Space Mutiny"? That movie was hilarious, it was like an old porn flick where they completely forgot to include the porn. I think the MST3K version is on Netflix....

Also, KD, make a little room there. And here's your bottled water.

Legit and hilarious and the bare druid just makes it better.

Mess with the grapple, better be ready to deal with the consequences. Taint messing around here.

I actually have a shirt that has all of the names they made up for the lead actor.

And nah, it'll be serious. :)

Anyone actually wondering about the actual rules question angle anymore? Because that really does seem exceedingly clear-cut:

It does not matter who starts the grapple. Abilities like this tend to be worded very deliberately, and "grappled" means "has the grappled condition."

Every single example anyone gave of how to safely handle the succubus in such a way that no level draining is going to happen is an instance of the succubus having the pinned condition, which it is possible to get going before the succubus gets a turn in.

Now, if someone has a succubus pinned and is still getting drained, that I wouldn't agree with.

I didn't think it was possible to apply the pinned condition via the grappling mechanic without the same person taking at least two standard actions. I suppose a Maneuver Master could potentially pin a succubus before she got a turn in, but I can't think of any other ways to go about it.

We established fairly early on in the thread that a grappled succubus can use her ability on the person performing the grapple. I suppose if you could pin her before she got a turn in, you could potentially stop her from getting an Energy Drain in. Hopefully you also avoid the Will save to avoid then tying up all of your friends and letting her loose to have her way with them.

Rapid Grappler

Cuddle (standard action) -> maintain cuddle to pin (move action via Greater Grapple) -> tie up (swift action via Rapid Grappler because you just maintained as move action) = instant bondage in 1 round

I don´t think your friends will object ....

You made the right call. It's not about the nature of the succubus's special power, it's simply that her action falls within the nature of what someone being actively grappled can do:

The Pathfinder SRD wrote:
Instead of attempting to break or reverse the grapple, you can take any action that doesn't require two hands to perform, such as cast a spell or make an attack or full attack with a light or one-handed weapon against any creature within your reach, including the creature that is grappling you.

Again, all joking aside, this seems pretty clear. If you can do a full attack or cast a spell while grappled, it seems pretty obvious that a succubus could lock somewhere on the grappler to accomplish her nefarious level draining goals.

I think the idea of grappling is that there's all kinds of squirming, wriggling, jiggling and waggling going on, which would seem to favor the succubus's favored attack...

Yea squirming,wriggling,jiggling and waggling!

I got two laughs out of this. One because it was funny, and one because by pure circumstance I was watching Red Sonja with Arnold as Conan this morning while getting ready for work.
