I really enjoy the archetypes of pathfinder. I think it's a fantastic system that far exceeds the old 3.5 one of simply making new classes that are slightly different form an existing one. With that being said I would LOVE to see a pathfinder with only 4 classes, Fighter, Wizard, Rogue and Cleric. All other classes would be archetypes of those classes replacing whatever abilities. I would also like this version to be grid independent. Think this is viable? I know it most likely would never happen, but it's something to dream about.

The issue is that paizo would be dividing their audience. Every time they release a product then, it would only be a consideration for a portion of their fans. For instance, if they release a new module, and that module is pathfinder lite, only the pathfinder players using the lite system would be interested. The reverse is true if something is for the core rules.
The purpose of the begginner box is to introduce people to the game, not to be a permanent system. This was deliberate on their part, and they have mentioned more then once they dont intend to change that.
Remember even though they control pathfinder, paizo's main products are not Rules. The rules are there to serve their adventures other products, not the other way around. And all a 'lite' system would do, is limit the things they could do for 'lite' adventures/setting products, and reduce the number of people who would potentially buy each individual product.

I have to say that if it wasn't for the beginner box I still probably couldn't play pathfinder. That beginner box was the most easiest learning experience.
We didn't even finish the included game before I went and changed all of our characters to the full blown version. It was that easy to switch over once I read the two books in the box.
Only thing I really wish is that Paizo would add in the core rule book and detailed step by step list of what exactly changes when you level up. Not in tables all over the book.
Or even maybe make one as a stand alone free .pdf download. This still confuses me and I feel like I missed something and forgot to upgrade a number somewhere.
Thanks. Just my 2cents.

If you want a game with only Fighter, Rogue, Wizard, Cleric; then do that. Just say that's the only 4 classes you're going to play.
If you're playing modules or APs with classes outside of that - get yourself the NPC Codex and replace the other classes with something from that.
Don't allow Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic in your game.
Drop Attacks of Opportunity if you find them too troublesome, have a gentleman's agreement not to grapple, etc.
Voila, Pathfinder Lite.
