Too much like Drizz't?

Advice

I was thinking of playing a Half-Drow (using half-elf racial swaps) Paladin(2)/Bard(Dawnflower Dervish-3)/Dragon Discple(8)/EK(x) for my next character but then starting thinking the guy may be too much like Drizz't.

Does this idea sound too close?

The original idea was to use the Elven Curve Blade but the easy grab of a free Dervish Dance and double Inspire Courage (although only a +2) seemed too easy to pass up.

Just don't spend hours waxing philosophic (AKA whining) endlessly about every interaction/decision and no one will think of you as that emo bipedal chainsaw that's perfect at everything save being even remotely interesting.

Your character build (classes) and weapons look nothing like Drizz't so nothing to worry about. Just because you are using drow-blooded racial feature doesn't mean you are a Drizz't clone.

Dude the class/archetype line you used to describe your character is almost longer than my finger.

If it is that long and does not include a herp derp magic panther and a blade named Twinkle, I think you are going to be okay here.

LOL, thanks for the input fellas

Avoid mass amounts on angst, and no one should confuse your concept.

It is how you create, and roleplay, your personality, that will set you apart.

Yeah not being a ranger, not being a two weapon warrior and being a Dragon Disciple is going to diffentiate you just fine.

Aren't all drow? That's my experience.

Be female.

No confusion then.

There are male elves?!

I know people that plaigerize way more than that so don't sweat it. i really doubt that R.A. Salvatore is going to sue you and if other people mock you AND can claim that they havent done the same thing just say screw you.

It don't matter if it's Arcturian, baby!

This.

Or just be one of Salvatore's dwarves. They are waaaaayyy more entertaining.

You aren't a Ranger, you will only be using a Single Scimitar, and you probably won't have a Panther.

@Harrison: I am just as shocked as you!

@Zepha: My only problem with the Drizz't clones is when they are the Melodramatic Twits. Though I say that I haven't even seen a well built Clone which leads to more drama.

If you want to make fun of Drizz'ts though I would build a character like the Main Hero of Looking For Group.

That said I love the sound of your build...

Besides, the most badass guy with a panther is Skeletor.

No way man, totally the BeastMaster. That dude actually had a face and ferrets, too.

Yeah, dervish dance kind of takes away from the Dragon Disciples STR bonus so I'm trying to figure out how to maximize it.

Might have to opt for Arcane Duelist and that Curve Blade

See here, around 4:38 is my favorite line.

okay using the ECB will be pretty Awesome. What Stat Array you looking at?

My villains have borrowed that voice and line so many times it is ridiculous.

20 point buy, Dex(15); Str, Con, Cha (14); Wis(8); Int(10)

Bump Dex(lvl-4), then probably Con 2x (lvl-8&12)

Gives me good saves, hps, and AC through Dex. Weapon Finesse, Power Attack, Weapon Special, Arcane Strike, etc...

Sorry man, but that in no way beats Marc Singer and ferrets. Although I may lose on a technicality, because his panther may have just been a tiger that they rubbed with some dark food coloring.

You are correct. Real panthers were too small for the director (or producer, maybe--been a while), so they dyed a tiger black. I have no idea idea why they went with a tiger instead of a cougar (slightly bigger) or a lioness (waaaaay bigger!).

In early advertising and trailers, it became apparent that they weren't fooling anyone--tigers have a completely different shape and look than panthers--and they changed the voiceovers to talk about a "legendary black tiger". They did not, however, add any scenes of people reacting to this legendary black tiger or saying "Dude! Is that a black tiger??"

Back to the original poster's question:
Um...who the heck is Drizz't and why should we care?

Nah, your build is too optimised. Drizz't's actual build is kinda ordinary.

He is a great warrior cause he always rolls high, has 50point buy and is 18th level in a world where anything above lvl 10 is rare.

Chops to Salvatore for making the stories good. Playing an 18th level fighter/ranger/barb hewing through tons of low level orcs doesn't net a lot of xp.

Well, Skeletor is still the better troll, and has better one-liners.

Drizz't is a Drow TWF Ranger who used Twin Scimitars from a D&D Book series. His build borders on Cliche seeing as a lot of new Players came into the game because of the Drizz't books.

If you want to do a Dex based build, you might just want to go with Eldrich Knight. Also Drizzt was in no way a spell caster, or a much of a paladin, so you are good on that front.

As a general rule of thumb when I am creating a character, if the thought crosses my mind "Hmm... is this build too much like [random literary fantasy character]" the answer is pretty much already "Yep!".

Errr...what? The average bum lying facedown in a pool of his own vomit probably has 30 levels in a single spellcasting class if he's in the g%&*%+ned Forgotten Realms.

in the forgotten realms, there are 10 level 30+ full spellcasters for every indiviudal commoner.

... which Forgotten Realms were you guys playing in?

Were there high level characters? Yes. Were there a good number of them? Yes. But Forgotten Realms receives a great deal of hyperbolic hate for no reason that I can discern other than, "there clearly isn't enough room for the PCs" when, from every experience I've ever had in it, there clearly is. (Similarly: no one has ever been able to adequately explain the hatred of the Harpers to me. This is not the time or place, however.)

Are we talking Original Forgotten Realms or Modern Forgotten Realms?

Heh. Which "modern" one?

Gah! Off-topic warning! Off-topic warning!

EDIT: You almost sucked me in!
ALSO, I made something for you, just in case you missed it.
(It's fine if you've seen it already, I just didn't know.)

They changed Forgotten Realms?

Damn you 4E!

The Modern Forgotten Realms has become a Post-Apocalyptic Setting where only High-Level NPCs survived. They should have brought back Dark Sun.

On-Topic: Best of luck with your PC.

Oh God, the Angst! The Angst! The high level Anti-hero Angst!

What Angst?

All the angst?

Oh that Angst! Personally I prefer the Bastard-Hero character archetype of the Anti-Hero concept. Wish I could find the Trope/Meme page for it.

ON-TOPIC: Dawnflower Dervish doesn't really help you if you are planning to use an ECB. You might look into Magus though and maybe exchange Paladin for Fighter or GULP Ranger.

drow? check.
twin scimitars? check.
magic panther and angst so concentrated it cries the black blood of the innocent sacrificed upon a burning orphanage (coincidentally my next exalted character's name)? check.

i'm afraid your build is too drizz't--yer a loose cannon deyvantius! turn in your badge, you're off the case.

i hope you can guess at my sarcasm.

Man, losing on a technicality is super hard.
Well played, BBT. But next time, BBT...

NEHHHHHHXXXXXXTTTTT TIMMMMME!!!

Kudos to Gwen for dropping the knowledge, but oh man don't be all too cool for school and be all like oh dang who's Drizzt that's just like a bit too much to take after having been outpanther'd.
