Martial Artist / Qinggong Monk With Ninja Levels. Is this Crazy?

Advice

Okay, I've found an ability or two that Qinggong Monk can replace that doesn't conflict with Martial Artist. Add to this a few Ninja Levels to get a Ki pool and that should give us the Necessary abilities to, by RAW, bypass the Alignment stuff that keeps most characters from using a Ki-power attack.

...A Ki attack...Such as Ki Shout.

Now, I get the feeling this is incredibly stupid... So is there any way that this WON'T end badly?

I mean, replacing Abundant Step or High Jump for a power that they will at best, only get to use once, is a bit of a waste really.

(But still, it does allow one to pretend we're in some kind of Dragon Ball Z Game. So there's that.)

Pretty much, the only way I see it working out, is if the Charisma was boosted... incredibly high for more Ninja Ki.

...Not that that's a bad idea, just incredibly... Expensive to get one's hands on all those "Tomes of Leadership and Influence".

Something like... up to 40 Charisma maybe? that'd be... What, 15 Ki points plus the 3 or so from the 6 ninja levels so... 18?

...Man this is mangled... This sounds freaking crazy... Can this train wreck of a build actually amount to anything? Or is it broken beyond repair?

Doesn't have to be boosted incredibly high really.

6 Ninja levels gives you 3 Ki, make sure you have a +3 Cha mod and you can use Ki Shout twice a day.

That's not bad at all if you wanted to be a melee combatant who can Fus Ro Dah as a last resort.

You could also take a look at items like Ring of Ki Mastery, Necklace of Ki Serenity, or Amulet of Hidden Strength (has 1 charge per day: either use it as a swift to make an extra attack at highest BAB, or use as a full round action to get back 2 ki) from Ultimate Equipment. You could also see if you could get both of those amulet effects on one amulet by paying the extra crafting costs.

And a Meditation Crystal, but that only gives back 1 (2?) Ki. It's also only a couple hundred gold though.

Wow, I never heard of that until you mentioned it. Might want to spend a few thousand gold and fill you Handy Haversack up with those things. :O

...just reread it and I realized I don't know what this means:

"Though this focus is usually a hand-sized crystal, the exact form (such as a wooden idol, an iron disk, and so on) may vary for some religions. A monk or paladin of the cleric’s faith may concentrate upon an activated meditation crystal, taking no actions for 1 minute, and regain 1 ki point or one use of lay on hands. Once activated, the crystal retains its energy until a monk or paladin uses it for this purpose or 24 hours pass."

So it can only be used once per day like I was thinking upon first glancing at it?

I think that's just a flavorful way of saying it.

Like you invest it with a portion of your Ki and it gives a whole one back or somesuch and then it's "charged" for 24 hours.

I've never used mine, but I have it around my neck just in case I'm boozeless and Ki-less at some point.

Oh and I was wrong, it's only a hundred gold, not two.

Dot.

If that really is the case, then I can't help but think a bag full of those things is the way to go.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but the Meditation Crystal is a type of channel focus - a cleric has to expend one use of channel energy for each ki point you gain.

I'm glad actually. That makes much more sense.

Where is that Meditation Crystal?

If what you say is right... It would make for a wonderful build.

Here

Nice. That would make a lot of Monk/Paladin Builds more potent...

What exactly does that mean anyways... I've heard it used twice but I don't seem to be getting the picture.

It means I can click Focus when viewing the Meassageboard and see only the ones I have commented on.

I usually use it on threads I wanna watch to see how they progress otr when I don't have enough time to read through the thread.

You could think of it as this Messageboard's Subscription feature.

It means he just wants to mark this as a conversation he's interested in. Since he posted here, it will have a dot next to the thread title when he's surfing the forum.

Also, monk/ninja seems cool, but you're giving yourself an even crappier BAB (you're taking a 3/4 progression that does nothing to help your main offensive capability), making your flurry of blows less useful. You've also added CHA to the list of stats you need in addition to WIS, CON, DEX, and possibly STR, so you're crazy MAD (Multiple Ability Dependent). You're not going to be a great melee character, and having to spread your stats out so much is probably going to negatively impact the DC's of your abilities pretty harshly. I'm not sure if you're playing PFS or a home game, but if you want to use Ki abilities and still remain viable, there's a third party supplement called The Way of Ki that's pretty fantastic. Much of the material in it was designed with a nod towards the Jade Regent adventure path and the designers have done a lot of work for Paizo, so it's very well balanced, high quality, and thorough. Maybe check it out.

This Build is more for the RAS(Rolled Attribute System).

Very true. If you got lucky and rolled 3 or 4 high scores it could be workable.

I remember back in 3/3.5 I'd always get excited when I rolled 3 16's or better because it meant I could play a monk or paladin, lol!

Check my Twin Fighters Thread in the Advice section. I rolled a 74 Point Buy Spread.
