Additional modules for side-quests?

Jade Regent

Hello everybody!

As you can tell by the title I am searching for suggestions for adding modules to the Jade Regent path for side-quests. I have a goal to have the Campaign reach 20th level and I need some ideas for extra stuff to do to get there. (I have no problem tweaking things here or there in the adventures to adjust challenges to suit the higher level PCs later in the path)

I am already planning on adding "Feast of Ravenmoor" into "The Brinewall Legacy" any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't plan on running this campaign for a few more months so I've got some time to prepare.

Thanks in advance!

When closer to Minkai, you could possibly use modules designed for Rite Publishing's Kaidan setting of Japanese horror, just reset the locations within Tian Xia or Minkai itself. There's a one-shot adventure called Frozen Wind, and there's the Curse of the Golden Spear trilogy, especially consider using the first module: The Gift and/or second module: Dim Spirit (or all 3), as precursors to Jade Regent #6. Plus consider there are Black Friday sales for Rite Publishing material both here in the Paizo Store, plus DriveThruRPG.com for huge discounts on those modules.

The Kaidan setting fits well into Minkai and Jade Regent.

The Exchange

there are two adventure path plug-ins that you can put in during book 3, they look pretty good, and I'm using them in my campaign.

Shadow Lodge

I'm adding in "Baleful Coven" between Ch. 2 and 3, and and "Under Frozen Stars," in Chapter 3, both from Legendary Games. Also in chapter 3: "The Harrowing," and "Rats of Round Mountain." In Chapter 2, I added parts 1 and 3 of the "Quest for Perfection."

So far, they've all fit in nicely.

Thanks for all of the ideas, folks! So far I'm going with "Feast of Ravenmoor", "Baleful Coven" / "Under Frozen Stars" (just downloaded both of those), "Frozen Wind" and "The Ruby Phoenix Tournament".

So far so good. I'm certainly open to any other suggestions.

Thanks again!

#30 Haunts for Kaidan - while this is a collection of haunts, obviously, it is divided into 9 creepy storylines, with associated ghosts and in some cases added monsters and NPCs - each storyline could make a creepy side quest or have a module built around it.

It's one of my favorite Kaidan books. Only $1.60 during the Black Friday sale in the Paizo store.

Obviously not ready yet, but I'm working on a new product series for Kaidan featuring mapped locations that comes with a complete complex encounter of varying CR with backstory/agenda, stated NPCs, custom haunts, a custom curse, a custom template, called Haiku of Horror #1: Autumn Moon Bath House. Should be out by early next year - so it might make your gaming schedule.

Thanks, gamer-printer! I just picked up #30 Haunts. It looks like I could sprinkle a few of them in around the entrance into Tian Xia. You guys have been a lot of help!

Incidently, I was the cartographer (of the original hand-drawing) for the city of Kasai, capital of Minkai, although Paizo's in-house cartographer finished it. I did some writing for the gazetteer of Kasai, as well - I helped Frank Carr do that work. I'm listed as one of the authors: Michael Tumey.

Here's a link to that original hand-drawing (note this is big, dimensions being 36" x 54" pen work only) - City of Kasai.

So I'm a freelancer for Paizo in addition to my Kaidan stuff. Paizo recognizes my Japanese expertise.

I just found out about "Under Frozen Stars" and have to say I'm quite impressed and will include that into my game.

Now I found this thread and read about "The Baleful Coven" which is supposed to take place before they cross into the Crown of the World. Since my players are long past that point (entering the Storm Tower next), that's no longer possible.
It mentions that there are scaling instructions to run it after Book 3 basically and I'm considering doing that, but how well does that really work?
Also would anyone mind telling me which NPC those 3 witches/hags believe the PCs have wrongfully murdered? (maybe in a spoiler)

Lastly, are there any other AP-plug-ins like those for the last 3 books? If so I'd much rather find out about that now when I have time to prepare for it all, than too late again ;)

You can you The Harrowing. Have Koya bring about the events through a harrow deck gift.

The Ruby Phoenix Tournament can be used during there trek through Tian Xia.

I mentioned this product in a previous post and it's available now. The Haiku of Horror: Autumn Moon Bath House - features a fully mapped and room-by-room gazetteer of a typical 4 story Japanese bath house. It comes included with a mini-adventure/complex encounter featuring a curse, 3 custom haunts, a new ghost template and stated versions at CR 6, 10, 14, 18 and 22. The floor plans are authentic to feudal Japanese architecture - included are full (1" = 5') miniatures scale sliced maps, and VT ready map files.

This would make an interesting encounter for an overnight stay at the bath house/inn in the Forest of Spirits up to The Empty Throne.

The Baleful Coven could conceivably work anytime after book 2, it is a revenge adventure and the coven have the ability to travel much faster than the PCs, you would have to up the ante though but it would totally work.

Spoiler:
Goti Runecaster
, one is mad because she didn't get paid and the other was sent by headoffice to take care of the pcs.

This thread is a bit old. But I'm going to start running this AP in a few months and looking to see if there is any additional recommendations for module plug ins that have come out more recently and fit into the theme.

I will add all 3 plug in's from Legendary games and use Haiku of Horror #1

I can't use any of the PFS stuff or Paizo modules due to a few players in my home game are also PFS players and have played just about every PFS sanctioned scenario and module.

Scarab Sages

Hm. That's a shame. I used the Midnight Mirror to help my players level during their trip from Sandpoint to Brinewall. But chances are then that they already played that.

If your players have not played Rise of the Runelords and don't wish to, you could use Thistletop in the first book as another goblin tribe to beat on...

It's been a while since I looked at Jade Regent, but I was internally debating putting in the PF Module the Ruby Phoenix tournament if I were to run Jade Regent. It would possibly used as a stop gap in case we wanted to end the game early (winning the tournament would mean winning the throne of Minkai), or possibly simply as an interlude to win the political favor of those ruling in power in Ordu-Aganhei (making it the location instead of Goka). The Jade Regent would probably have some representatives there, either covertly or overtly.

Ruby Phoenix Tournament spoiler:
The cheating Golden League bad guys could be replaced by Jade Regent minions/oni or simply be secretly on the take.

If you have access to Dungeon magazine, the Coming Storm (level 10, Dungeon 136) fits both in theme and climate at the approximate level you'll be towards the far end of the Crown of the World.

Coming Storm and Jade Regent Spoilers:
The temple's return to the mortal world could relate to Katiyana's storm, or could be an alternate source for the storm if you wanted to cut some parts of the third module out.
Providing your willing to play with the levels, the Winding Way (level 14, Dungeon 117) also seems fairly appropriate for insertion somewhere into the adventure path.

Finally, there are a few Pathfinder modules you could run after the adventure path is over, provided your party was willing to go back west to the artic cold (The Witchwar Legacy, level 17) or rescue a cherished companion from the threats that infest Golarion's moon (the Moonscar, level 16.) Foreshadowing these modules early on may help build context for them showing up after the official adventure path is over.

Legendary Games has three plug ins, Under Frozen Stars (book 3), The Baleful Coven (between 2 and 3) and Road to Legend (Book 1).

I believe the hags got bent out of shape over Goti Runecaster, but that's from memory, so I might be wrong.
On the Forest of spirits thread there's a lot of info regarding encounters around the house of withered blossoms gardens area, that had been dropped from the book.
I added baleful coven during book 4, but had to pump the CRs quite a bit, I think +4 for my group. Haven't seen any further legendary plug ins for book 4-6 yet.
I've also added Mythic to my campaign, and the group is now mostly Tier 4 in book 5. I instituted slow XP progression at 13th level as the mythic started building up. I've scaled back Mythic power attack. With all the plug ins and random encounters my players are 1 level ahead of where the mod wants them (+1), I also have a 6 player party (+1), and 4 tiers of Mythic (+2) so I'm rewriting each encounter +4 CR from here on out, at least, might be more by the end.

Thanks for the additional posts. My game got pushed back quite a bit with us running other campaigns so I haven't actually been able to start yet. I appreciate everyone's suggestions. Thanks!

I added the Module, Tears at Bitter Manor between Book2 and 3.
After Party complete book2, PCs have time to prepare cross the Crown of the world, perfect time to run this. The module originally based Taldore(?), but I changed the town be fits to Ulfen. Tt was great and having fun!

Legendary Games's Road to Destiny was designed to integrate with the 500 mile caravan journey to Brinewall. In as much as it can, it foreshadows events in Chapter Two. We've had a couple rounds of edits and fixes, and it truly has some great maps.

5 stars from EZG too.

I'll tell you guys what I'm using so far...

Legendary Games plug-ins:
Road to Destiny during Brinewall Legacy
The Baleful Coven during The Hungry Storm
Under Frozen Stars during The Hungry Storm

Feast of Ravenmoor during Brinewall Legacy
Curse of the Riven Sky after Night of Frozen Shadows
Ruby Phoenix Tournament before The Forest of Spirits

Dungeon Magazine adventures:
#117 The Winding Way at the end of The Hungry Storm
#119 Tomb of Aknar Ratalla after The Forest of Spirits
#134 And Madness Followed before Night of Frozen Shadows

Dark and Stormy Knight (old 3.- module) before the campaign begins set in the Tors in the Sandpoint Hinterlands.

I'm also incorporating some statblocks I found for the monsters from the movie "Grabbers" for when they return from Brinestump Marsh. I would love to catch the PCs during their drunken celebrations after their foray into the swamp.

I would also like to try and squeeze in some Pathfinder Society goodness with some scenarios set in Varisia and Tian Xia. But I'm not sure if I will do that because I really don't want to overdo it.
