I've run Rise of the Runelords before, and at some point I'm going to run Shattered Star.
I've heard that Shattered Star assumes that Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne and Second Darkness have all taken place.
I have no idea what happens in those two AP's though, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me a short summary of what happens in CotCT & SD to help me prepare for SS?

Curse of the Crimson Throne: Evil Queen attempts to subjugate a city to malicious tyranny complete with blood sacrifices, plagueborn genocide of varisian natives, and the use of powerful evil artifacts and devil contracts. Kidnaps and brainwashes young women to be her personal army (Gray Maidens) gets defeated by PCs who with a magic sword.
Second Darkness: Drow try to call an asteroid to crush Kyonin's elves. PCs stop them.

I dont think the events of second darkness affect shattered star at all. Crimson throne impacts book two big time, but all the info you need is in there.
Second Darkness is the AP that introduces the world to the fact that both drow and the Darklands exist. Before the events of Second Darkness, pretty much nobody in the Inner Sea Region knows about either.

I think the "Big Reveal" from Second Darkness was the fact that there was another world of great caverns and subterranean cities miles below the surface of the world.
Shattered Star makes references to expeditions to and artifacts found in the Darklands, as if knowledge of the Darklands was commonplace.
Before Second Darkness, only a minuscule number of individuals on the surface world were aware of the dangers that lurked below.
But, I will agree with you that the Second Darkness connection seems more for flavor and background than nuts-and-bolts... at least so far. Still two issues to come!

I can't imagine the Pathfinder players who would be surprised by the existence of Drow or an "underdark."
It's like basing a campaign on "OMG, that black dragon breathed ACID!!"
Seriously, there's a clever and Golarion-unique origin to drow. That was kind of cool.

I didn't mean that the existence of the Darklands or drow was a "big reveal" to players. I meant that was a major piece of news to the characters in the game-world.
I.e., my Runelords game takes place before the events of SD, and drow are not allowed as a PC race... nor are any PC backstories involving drow or the Darklands.
