Here's the exact wording from the Ultimate Equipment guide, certain parts I've bolded for emphasis:

Quote:
Made from a mix of sturdy steel and boiled leather, these vambraces grant a +1 deflection bonus to AC while the wearer is wielding a double weapon or two weapons (not including natural weapons or unarmed attacks). In addition, once per round, when attacking with an off-handed weapon, the wearer can reduce any penalties on attack rolls made with that weapon by 2.

So here's my question: Does the reduction work for only a single attack or for all attacks made that round? The awkward wording of the sentence makes it unclear. The fact that it says attack rollS (plural) seems to imply that the reduction will work for multiple attacks instead of just one. On the other hand, if it indeed works that way, it seemingly makes the "once per round" phrase superfluous and also, IMO, makes the item a steal at 8000gp.

So which way does it work?

I think it works for any attack rolls that are relevant to a single off-hand attack. Critical confirmation rolls are the only ones I can think of at the moment, which is odd since they're already including the modifiers of the original attack.

I think the plural is an odd grammar issue, like "Sometimes there are things that penalize attack rolls, and I want to be able to reduce the penalty on attack rolls for that one attack."

Critical confirmation does seem like the best explanation for that.

So then consensus is that it only works for one attack per round?

If you have the Improved Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you have two off-hand attacks available to you. Hence the use of the plural!

In my opinion, it works for ALL your off-hand attackS in a [full] round!

One thing I am not clear ...

It seems to me that this item, when used with the TWF feat plus using a light off-hand weapon (meaning your two-wpn fighting penalties are -2 on each weapon), makes that off-hand weapon BETTER than your primary hand weapon!!

Was this really intentional?
Is there any clarification on this item?

Bump on this, since the text is somewhat unclear. If it applies to all attacks, two-weapon wielders around the world will rejoice!

I guess the only one that would be able to respond is someone involved in the creation of the rules... Such person might never see this thread! :(

Click on that FAQ button... it might help! *grins*

Worth clarifying.

Casting raise thread. I'm wondering if this works with double weapons. Basically, I would imagine any of the "bonus attacks" get their penalties reduced. That said, I can also see it just not at all working.
