Hi there,

I was thumbing through the characters (nicely done, btw), and I came across the two dragon disciples, Aneelde and Edleena. They look great, but I think I spotted a math error. Both of them have Power Attack calculated as giving -3/+9, but that would require them to have a BAB of +8; their score of +6 should only yield a change of -2/+6, shouldn't it?

Either way, great work.

Later on,
Ghorrin

Red, the Power attack issue should be fixed now. Thanks for noticing!

So is there a story behind all the summoners you make being of the Wrang family?

Beyond the fact that they are indeed related, no there really isn't much of a story yet there yet. Several of the other characters also have various connections you might be interested to know about.

Those who ARE related are listed below:

  • Abikae Daewolf was taught the arts of fleshwarping by Vicroar Sesnaben
  • Aneelde Cansiv and Edleena Visnac are mirror opposite twins separated at birth by warring dragons; they are prophesied to bring balance to the world
  • The Cracked Man became cracked (both physically and mentally) when Yiankun Lee petrified and shattered him in a dual; was painstakingly pieced back together by his mentor, Sela Kurn, whom he has never been able to best despite his greater spell power
  • The Dark Knight has hunted Sanat Norstag and his gang of raiders, who remain at large
  • Dayer and Deacon Rann are brothers taught by their father, a legendary archer purported to rob from the rich and give to the poor; Dayer is the older of the two
  • Durin, Haloy, and Tolu Wrang are all siblings (listed here from oldest to youngest); Tolu is considered the black sheep of the family even though he's probably the most redeemable of the bunch
  • Fire-Eye Sang and Fish grew up in the same orphanage; both became pirates of the Shackles
  • Guymelef Dilandou, Meredith Nerissa, Milerna Nanneel, Mister Owl often adventure together
  • Haylannar Whart and Nudel the Devourer not only share a penchant for eating their enemies, but once clashed, nearly destroying one another. The artifact that transformed Haylannar Whart once belonged to Sela Kurn
  • Helegûr and She'er Falen are not mortal enemies, despite rumors to the contrary
  • Jackal Maulsons and Jamava Bloodblade are close friends (the former having saved the latter from a life of gladiatorial slavery)
  • Macellano Alamander adventured with Nives Burer and Nym Amalyth for a time
  • Mad Meenus Sniiv and Sojo were both defeated in combat by Tappa Nile (while he was still young and relatively inexperienced)
  • Ravendark and the Raven King are not connected in any way, despite their similar powers and persistent rumors to the contrary
  • Roshgog and She'er Falen are rivals and mortal enemies
  • Siinsa Tosscobble and Wellby Tosscobble are married
  • Skivven and Vicroar Sesnaben once plotted together to bring great calamities upon the innocents of the world but were foiled by Shisio Dafoe
  • Taur Thelyn's last name is the same name as Thelyn Cabor's first name; and they both defend the same forest region from fell forces

There are plenty more connections, but many of them are to characters not yet shown in the gallery.

Im assuming abikay daewolf and lermos daewolf are brothers/relatives as well. I must admit I like the connections so far you have listed.

Curse you 1 hour time limit! Hah, yes, can't believe I overlooked the Daewolf brothers. They are both noble scions who are, well, not good people.

Abikay Daewolf has been updated to include the new Mutant template from Numeria, Land of Fallen Stars; something that seemed exceedingly appropriate for his character (being an accomplished fleshwarper and all).

Gave Roshgog and Roshgog a goblin fire drum and the Spontaneous Metafocus feat.

She'er Falen has been updated to the new character sheet format (you'r not likely to notice much of a difference) and has had her custom researched spells rewritten and her spell list slightly modified.

RD I am looking to use your transmuter character Haylannar, you took the additional traits feat but I don't see what traits you took with it, also what do the B's and M's in the feat section represent?

B means bonus feat, M means Mythic feat. Not sure about the Traits though. I've been using RD's sheet for awhile now, but I made a minor modification of including 'Traits' after the Feats section.

I generally list background traits on the SQ line, under "traits."

In Haylannar's case, he has magical lineage (beast shape IV) and outlander: lore seeker (beast shape IV, dragon shape III, elemental body IV).

Oh I had seen those, I assume then 2 traits are not included in your games automatically? What would you take instead for that then?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Generally, no, they are not assumed to have traits bby default, but I think there is at least one character in the gallery where the reverse is true, so be sure to keep an eye out.

In a game that already includes traits (thereby precluding the need for the additional traits feat) I would probably give Haylannar Greater Spell Focus (transmutation) instead, to increase the DCs of his monster abilities (such as poison and breath weapons) by 2, or perhaps the Feral Speech arcane discovery, so he can talk to animals at will. The Opposition Research arcane discovery could help him free up some of his spell slots too, since he uses a fair amount of spells from his opposition schools.

I had a build very similar to Haylannar's. I was playing as a Bonded Witch with an Amulet (as the Amulet of Mighty Fist) as my bonded item, and I took Agility as my patron. I'd have to say its probably the most satisfying character I've ever played and I highly suggest trying a build like this. Haylannar gives me feelings of nostalgia when I stare at his character sheet. Their is nothing more satisfying then being a full caster that can out melee martial classes.

Edit: Another similarity I found between our characters was their hunger for human flesh, I thought that was pretty awesome.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

For Haylannar, it is less "human flesh" and more "flesh of his enemies." For him, defiling those weaker than he is almost a ritual meant to allow him to better remember the experience of the battle, akin to how many barbarian tribesmen take a trophies of their kills.

And I really that aspect of him, I personally just liked to eat people alive as an extreme form of physical dominance. I liked to think as my character as the alpha predator, but he was raised by the belief that devouring his enemies would give him their strengths. I honestly just couldn't resist taking the cook people hex. Anyways I cant wait until you release some new characters, I've been fiending for some new builds.

Here's a sneak peek to hold you over then! Once the arcanist class is officially released, I will be posting an old v3.5 character revised for the Pathfinder rule set. I present to you...

Sandalphon the Fiend Killer:

Sandalphon the Fiend Killer
“We stand between the immortal and the mortal, the divine and the earthly, the material and the sublime. Our duty is dear: bring the light, purge the darkness, and shield the faithful from the grasping claws of evil!”

Sandalphon is a powerful arcanist preoccupied with ridding the world of evil in general, fiends in particular, and demons specifically. He lost his wife and two children long ago to a powerful demon who his wife (a powerful wizard in her own right) had inadvertently summoned. Sandalphon himself was captured by the demon and forced to watch the torture and subsequent murder of his family as he himself was tortured mercilessly. Though he was saved and the demon driven off by the intervention of a family friend (a traveling paladin/sorcerer named Shioji), it was nevertheless too late to do anything for his beloved kin, whose very souls had been absconded with by the fell creature. This tragedy has fueled his quest against evil for years.

Since that fateful day, Sandalphon has blamed himself for not being able to better protect his family. He began traveling the world to find two things: the demon who slew his family—and the personal power with which to make the monster suffer. To that end, he often works with the Pathfinder Society and other adventuring guilds in search of powerful artifacts and magic. Though generally honorable and kind, Sandalphon’s quest for vengeance long ago became an obsession which twists his goodly nature.

NG Human arcanist/evangelist

Sandalphon was formerly a human wizard/sorcerer/ultimate magus. Until the advanced class guide, making his concept mechanically feasible, just wasn't really possible. I am very excited about finally having the opportunity to present this particular character concept to you all. You can also look forward to a handful of old characters being revised to the new classes, and many other wholly new characters being created using the new classes.

Ultimate Magus is a PrC I always loved from 3.5. Can't wait to see how he transitions into play as an Arcanist.

Wow man I really cant wait to see how this character fleshes out, kinda ironic that I was fiending for a new character and he turns out to be a fiend slayer (I see what you did there). Also I was wondering what class or prestige you would take if you were to add one to Haylannar's build, I'm planning on re-rolling my old character similar to him. I might even just go wizard and basically copy your full build, but I've been wondering if their were any optimal choices for dips or prestige classes. I really want to boost his HP/AC and make those melee attacks as nasty as possible.

Well, Haylannar gets full base attack bonus +11 whenever he transforms using beast shape IV. (Or full base +4 with elemental body IV and form of the dragon III, or full base +3 with any other polymorph spell.)

I'm not really sure how'd you'd get much higher than that. It's downright amazing that I was even able to find an advanced progression better than full base. I was about to recommend levels in eldritch knight to you when it occurred to me that, that wouldn't make a lick of difference for this build's attack bonuses (since all of the attack bonuses while transformed are based off of caster level).

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Significant changes have been made to Shioji Petilom.

Instead of being a paladin 2/sorcerer 13/oracle 1, he is now a paladin 2/sorcerer 3/evangelist 10/oracle 1--a change which has made him even more powerful in nearly every way.

Yeah I see what you're saying. I'm just paranoid about low levels because I would be starting from level 1 with a 15 point build most likely (hopefully 20). I'm worried the character might die before he even really gets the chance to develop. I hate having such low hit-points in the beginning, combined with a rather crappy AC.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Shioji Petilom now has a character bio, which links him to the Bellflower Network, Abadar's paladinhood, Cheliax, the Raven King, and the soon-to-be-revealed Sandalphon the Fiend Killer.

The key, Nosgoth, is to get the Shapeshifitng Mastery archmage mythic path ability as soon as possible, then just pump up your physical stats and caster level as much as you can.

My only problem with this is that I don't think my gm will be allowing mythic heroes in this campaign, therefore no Shapeshifting Mastery. Which blows because I know how essential that path ability is to the build. Hopefully I will find a solution, otherwise I'll just have work toward making something else.

What was your thinking on a bonded item over a familiar for Haylannar? It seems another creature to turn into something or use wands for you or on you would be useful?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Nosgoth: Ask your GM if he would institute a homebrew feat that works similarly. Be sure to mention how conjurers are overpowered in comparison to transmuters without such a feat and that you think it will bring balance back to transmuters.

Choant: Did you mean to say "What was your thinking on a familiar over a bonded item for Haylannar?" If so, I think that is a powerful option to go for, for the reason you described. Whatever the caster goes with, it should probably be a nasty little carnivore (if only in personality and general attitude).

So if one were to continue leveling up nudel...would it be better to continue as a druid for more CL as far as buffs go, or perhaps as a barbarian for more rage? I know the shaping focus feat would allow her to gain access to the final two levels of wild shape even if they arent necessary.

Also why go with the razortusk feat over the toothy alternate racial trait?

If it were me, I would consider continuing on as a druid, or perhaps an evangelist/druid. The damage she is capable of now is enough to get her through most any physical encounter for the next 10 CRs, making any further increase to her physical abilities something of an overkill/waste when compared to the added versatility that spellcasting provides her.

As for the Razortusk feat? I wasn't willing to give up her Sacred Tattoo racial trait (+1 luck bonus to all saves) in exchange for a bite attack. Even so, I wanted her to possess a bite attack in her normal form, seeing as it just fits so well with her concept of being a biter.

Doing it this way allowed me to get both, the thematic tribal tattoos of a shaman, as well as a nasty bite attack in all forms.

Hey Ravingdork, what are your thoughts on a Nudel-like character going cave druid 10/barbarian X and combining vital strike, furious finish, strong jaw, and the Carnivorous Crystal's 7d8 slam attack? I'm not sure, but it might be able to go as low as cave druid 6/barbarian X with shaping focus. Should be doing 14d8 vital strikes with furious finish by level 11, not even counting strong jaw.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

It certainly sounds like a unique and interesting variant of the build.

I like using it with an oread with the crystalline form alt racial, hehe.

crunch:
Assuming shaping focus does let you access new forms, druid 6-8/barbarian X can pick up Vital Strike at 9, Furious Finish at 11, and Improved Vital Strike at 13. So, stacking all that onto the carnivorous crystal and assuming Strong Jaw will make the slam go from 7d8 to 14d8, a furious finish improved vital strike will do 336+(Str*1.5) damage to the unlucky target.

Yikes

Is there a way to arrange them by class instead of names? that would be wtf amazing!

Ravingdork wrote:

NEW CHARACTER

Unfortunately, my character, Polliver "Caltrop" Mormont, died this weekend, having been murdered by Skinsaw cultists.

In his place, I have created (and now introduce to you) Jackal Maulsons, a 7th-level magus artificer who is notable for his ability to craft magic items at only an 8th of their overall market price, and for his uncanny resemblance to one Nick Fury of Marvel legend.

Now, you may not do this for Jackal since you're playing him, but one way you could take the 'reduced cost' of his magic items further is the Souleater prestige class. It can use it's 'soul pool' ability to help fund magic item creation with each point in his pool equal to 100 gp as per the Soul Trade from Book of the Damned 3: Horsemen of the Apocalypse (also where the Prestige Class comes from). You won't get a lot out of this, but with the Prestige Class, a character could probably craft a number of items for nearly free.

One could even use the Prestige Class to craft items to trade for downtine resources and, over a long period, essentially craft everything he has for free.

Wasum wrote:

+1

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Naming them by class would leave the file names horrendously unwieldy for most, and would do nothing to hint at other concept changing mechanics such as archetypes.

I think one or two "real-word" names better convey the concept of each character.

The concept is what is important, not the class. Need a pirate, enter "pirate" into the search field. Need a flesh warper, then enter that instead.
