Pawn consolidation?

Website Feedback

Hi, is it possible to bring all the pawns and paper minis on the catalogue into one place? The pawns are here (listed as "tokens"), but the paper minis are here. These are both related products, but the pawns are catalogued under "Accessories" and the paper minis under "Miniatures". Can they be brought together into the same catalogue area?

Yes. We just had a meeting about this sort of thing this afternoon. I'm in the process of helping the web team write a sort of product "family tree" for better organization of the website.

Anything else mis-categorized, from your point of view? Now is actually a great time to have this discussion.

Well, if the GameMastery maps are going to be put as part of the official Pathfinder line in the new year, it's going to get a little confusing to have all of the old maps in one place and all of the new maps in another, at least forum-wise. I hope the grandfathered products will just be brought over after the rebranding.

There's a couple of things which I'd find useful (apologies that its not exactly what you asked for, but its kind of related, I think). Mainly options it would be nice to have rather than a restructuring..

One is if it were possible to see products from a line like the campaign setting without it splitting into 3.5/PF products. It may be a sensible default to split them as a kind of protection for new users, but I'd find it useful to be able to see a page with every product (past, present and future) in the one line.

I'd also like it if there were some way to see every product related to an AP - map packs, player companions, pawns, figures, related campaign guides, etcetera... Not a "must have" list, but a "nice to have" list.

If the database could be clever enough, an extension to the above would be a "see related products" button next to paizo products. So from a specific module page I could, by clicking that button, see any flip mat used, the related campaign sourcebook (if one existed), any other sequel modules, etcetera. Similarly, the corresponding button relating to a map pack might reveal links to a couple of PF society scenarios, a module and an AP instalment (for example) and one or two related flip mats or map packs.

Pathfinder Module: Carrion Hill - Print Edition, Non-Mint is listed on the 3.5 product page.

Conversely, Pathfinder Module D4: Hungry are the Dead - Print Edition, Non-Mint is listed on the Pathfinder modules product page.

Hardcover non-campaign books and 3.5 materials are listed as OGL. Pathfinder campaign materials are listed as PFRPG. People still occasionally ask whether they should buy the hardcovers as they don't appear compatible with the campaign materials. Not a big deal, but it truly is confusing to the newbies. (Note, I posted on a forum with Vic who responded it was fine as is.)

Flagging my own forum post as based on Eric's call for website miscatorizations and/or organizing suggestions perhaps someone at Paizo can change the thread title name.

That's the plan, and the event that initiated the planned reorganization of Paizo products.

There are always going to be products that fall into more than one category, and categories that might be useful but won't even exist as long as a product can only belong to one category at a time. I suggest looking at the TV Tropes wiki and deviantART for examples of how to get away from the filing cabinet model, and do multidimensional categorization (presumably with a relational database).

Maybe for you, it would be more work than it's worth. I don't know. I'm just saying, I think it's worth looking at.

Have you though about using tags to organize your products. Porn sites use it to great effect to differentiate content that often crosses multiple categories. It's pretty easy and intuitive for the users as well.
