Assuming PCGen 6.00.0, Pathfinder game mode,

1) What data sets are you loading?
2) Exact instructions on what you are doing.
3) Are these templates ones that you have created, or are they ones in the data sets?

Love it for my current zen archer... however:

My char bought a manual of gainfull exercise +1, but how do "I" read it??

Actually using 3.5 mode, changed preferences to load sources with character. Character loads using the sources that we own, (all of them are included in the default set of sources), and the templates are the ones in the data sets. I get an error when I try to remove the template that it is not allowed?

Please send me a character file (xxx.pcg) and I will take a look at that file. I will be able to perhaps give you some clues, but without detailed instructions on what is going on, I am afraid that I might not be able to help.

Also, do you have an error log? (pf10)

Please send both (log and .pcg) to

Fixed it by editing the .pcg file. I just don't know how it got applied.
There is no error log that I can find. Where would that be located at?
I am on a Windows system.

After the file is loaded, press pf10 and it will bring up a box that has all the messages.

Bacon, You don't have to actually "buy" it (unless you want to keep a record of it.

Click on the Templates Tab, and in the search box at the top type Inherent (or scroll to find it), then select the Constition one, and apply it, a dialog will pop up and ask you to select the bonus.

How do you add/edit a template now? Older versions I could edit the lst from inside PCGen. I no longer see how I can edit the data?

The editor has been removed for PCGen 6.00.0. It will be re-added in 6.1 or 6.2. The reason is that the last production release was a long time ago and we needed to get a production release out, especially with the new UI. And the editor is in *very* *very* sad shape.

The only option currently is to make your own homebrew dataset. Which you can find instructions in the "my_dataset" sub-dir in the data directory, The instructions can also be found here.

Scarab Sages

David - I emailed those files to you.
It doesn't matter what I do now, it always applied those templates to any character, new or old.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A 68th level character? Really? 8 HD outsider, 30 rogue, 30 sorcerer.

You also loaded dang near every 3.5 rulebook out there. I lost count (5801 characters in the sources, ie. CAMPAIGN line).

The log file is 2060 lines long, mine was a lot longer and that is after turning off deprecated and unconstructed references.

All the above said, however, only the following templates are loaded and most of them are in the TEMPLATES section of the character file.
Automatic Arcane Battle Mastery
Bite ~ Claw (Medium)
Demigod
Demon Common Traits
Divine Rank
Divine Rank (1)
Divine Spellcasting (Sorcerer)
Male Only
Regional Affinity (Varisia)
Remove Resistance to Electricity

Where the extra 4 templates are coming from is beyond me. All I can say is that some ability is calling the TEMPLATE:UNDEAD, and the other templates tag and is loading them. There are 99 lst files that have TEMPLATE:UNDEAD in them, so there are probably more instances of that template.

I then edited the character file and only loaded:
3.5 RSRD Advanced
3.5 RSRD Basics
3.5 RSRD Divine
3.5 RSRD Epic
3.5 RSRD Monsters
Necromancer Games - The Tome of Horrors Revised

Still had errors, but not as many and they were of the ilk "could not find xxxx".

Still only loaded the templates above, minus the Varisia one.

Try, the last thing I did (edit the .pcg file) and keep only the six sources. I highly suspect that there is a homebrew in there that is loading the extra templates, but I can't find it.

Our Admin Silverback just made JIRA available to everyone to report bugs with out having to get an account.

===== Start Copied text =====
'jira.pcgen.org' you can now make a report without logging in - but only for Support Requests. We will move those Support Requests to the correct section, however, if you are not logged in, only a support request will allow you to make the report, attach issues, and comment, once it is moved, you'll no longer be able to comment or affect. This option is for those that don't want to be logged in. However, I highly recommend having an account with JIRA for follow up reports, otherwise you lose out on the logged in features - Notifications by Email for any issue you make, allowing the Monkeys to follow up with you.

Oh I know it is ridiculous. The group I run has pushed me to keep going, I have had to recreate a 3.5 version of the Immortal rules from BCEMI days. So the characters are out there. Finally wearing them down after 25+ years of playing the characters to "retire" and start new ones under Pathfinder rules. Way less supplements, rulebooks, etc...

So yes I do understand the disbelief about the 68th level character.

Using 3.5 RSRD as the only source loaded, started brand new character. I still have Construct, Mindless, Ooze, and Undead templates being applied.

Tools -> Preferences -> Autoload Sources with PC

Make sure it is unchecked. If it is not, uncheck it, ok (save) and exit PCGen. Load up PCGen and try again. If there still is a problem, send me the .pcg file to the yahoo id and I'll take a look at it.

*sigh* Just received a note on the PCGen Yahoo boards entitled:

-----
[pcgen] Open JIRA - Spammers are annoying
-----

and the contents are:

-----
Hi folks,

Barely 24 hours after I allow 'no reporters' for Support Requests, we've had 3 instances of Spammer issues. I'm going to say this is unacceptable and not worth the tracker churn for the few users who *might* want to file a report without logging into the system. Which to date has been Zero Issues.

I'm turning off the access, as it's just not worth it. If we have some sorta of CAPTCHA for submitting only to one project, then I could accept that but at this time I just don't think it's worth having our JIRA system loaded up with pure nonsensical garbage that spam bots or users seem to think they need to flood our systems with.
-----

So if anyone has an issue, report it to me, either via PM or in this thread or the next one after the next version in released, and I will open the JIRA and keep up the communications.

Hey I seem to be having an issue loading the Advanced Player's Guide data set.

I go into 'Advanced' in 'Select Sources'and add the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic and then Advanced Player's Guide is red and says the prereq's aren't loaded.

I look through it and this is highlighted in red "and less than 1 of Paizo - Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Character Traits Web Enhancement must be already selected" so I go an add the Character Traits Web Enhancement and Advanced Player's Guide is STILL red and says the same thing.

Any ideas?

In the "Campaign Info" at the bottom, if you page down there is a "requirements" line. Please copy and paste it here.

Also, is this from scratch, ie. nothing is already loaded?

Edit: I ask, because, I am not having the problem with 6.00.0
Edit2: The traits web enhancement will cause it to go red. Definitely do not load that.

So I...uhh...you know. I have tried that a half-dozen times since 6.0.0 got released and it has never worked, web trait enabled or disabled whatever, it didn't matter. I go in there right now to take a screenshot to show you and BAM everything works fine, I can finally add the advanced players guide.

heh... No problem. It is know that there is something wonky in that area of the code, and I have seen several reports like yours. We have not figured out yet exactly what is causing it, but I do know that there have been some tweaks in 6.1.0 in that area.

The Kensai Magus Archetype doesn't actually work in 6.01.01. Just tried with a fresh file.

http://jira.pcgen.org/browse/DATA-802?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system .issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel
^^^^^^^^^Needs to be reopened it appears.

Steps:
New char
Magus level 1
Select Kensai Archetype
Tab to Class Abilities
Select KENSAI Weapon Choice
Double click Martial Weapon Proficiency
Program goes to hell (stops responding properly but doesn't crash, doesn't like to end task)
Cannot pick a martial weapon.

It works fine with Exotic (though the program still goes to hell). I think the problem is that Kensai is not properly removing martial proficiency. Kensai Magus do not have martial prof and it seems to be showing that they do on the char sheet which means you can't pick a martial weapon.

Sort of a big problem regardless though since if Magus was not your first class you are going to be equally hosed if you already have martial weapon prof. So the solution can't just be to remove martial prof.

Also note Canny Defense doesn't seem to work either. I chose my special weapon and weapon focus as a Bola, equipped it, and did not see a AC bump.

I am unavailable till tomorrow morning (24 hours from now) to check this out, but I will look at it then and report back here.

-- david

I hacked together my own custom LST. It's not pretty but it works.

Changes I made to my homebrew Kensai archetype:

- Added .MagusWeaponProficiency to Kensai archetype TYPE list which gets rid of martial (since they don't get martial)
- Changed kensai weapon proficiency ability to AUTO:WEAPONPROF|Scimitar|TYPE=Simple (this is cheating, my selection is Scimitar, but it should be just TYPE=Simple then a selection of 1 of any martial/exotic)
- Changed Canny Defense to: BONUS:COMBAT|AC|max(0,min(INT,MagusLvl))|TYPE=Ability.STACK (also cheating, you should only get it if you have your special weapon equipped, so probably should be a temp bonus, equation is right though)
- Weapon Focus works in 6.01.01 so I stole that for my homebrew
- Iaijutsu init bonus was also unimplimented. Added BONUS:COMBAT|INITIATIVE|INT

If an attempt is made to make the weapon choice thing work like it's supposed to then it's important to test what happens if you have a class that gave you martial prof before you took kensai magus.

Actually, to be specific, the Canny Def only works if:
- You have your chosen weapon type equipped
- You are not using a shield
- You are using light armor or no armor

This is the same as Duelist version but Duelist version also requires the weapon to be a melee weapon. No such restriction for Kensai.

I didn't try to put all those restrictions in my version because I don't plan to ever wear a shield or armor :). Also I don't actually know how to implement that first restriction.

Hrm...if I add a Headband of Endless Intellect where exactly do I assign the free skill ranks? Can't seem to find that...

Issue http://jira.pcgen.org/browse/DATA-917 created for the Kensai Magus issues above, including Canny Def.

For skills, customize the headband via right click and there should be a type that will add a knowledge skill(s).

DirkSJ wrote:

I do try. I took care of that before I went to bed and caught up on sleep.

Thanks to David for filing this where we see it and will address it. And a nice link back so I could see the flurry.

A few issues that were brought up:

Kensai Weapon Prof Choice - I merged those together to alleviate the 'If he already has all Martial Profs by another class' freeze up.

Fixed the Martial Weapon Proficiency - Kensai no longer gets all Martial Weapon Profs.

Added the Initiative Boost (Went one step and made sure it won't give a negative if your intelligence drops for some reason below 10)

Added the Canny Defense, and applied the no Medium or Heavy Armor, or Shield and must be equipped with A weapon (Which is a distinction you pointed out).

Kensai now qualifies for the Focused Strike Feat and resulting chain you have.

I believe those were the issues brought up to me.

Cheers,

Rapid shot temp bonus is behaving...strangely.

Step to reproduce:
- new char
- 13 dex
- human
- fighter
- feat1: point blank shot (prereq)
- feat2: rapid shot
- buy longbow
- buy greataxe
- equip longbow to hands
- equip greataxe to carried
- go to temp bonuses, choose rapid shot, choose longbow
- look at char sheet display (issue below)
- also look at export PDF (same issue)

So on your sheet now it has the longbow rapid shot line which is fine but every other weapon is also rapid shot now with two attacks at -2. Even the non-rapid shot longbow line and the greataxe. Even unarmed is now 2 attacks at -2.

Very odd.

Appears it's in the feat setup. Changes needed:
TYPE:Combat ---> TYPE:Combat.AttackOption
(So it stacks with Deadly Aim and other things you may want to do together)
BONUS:COMBAT|ATTACKS|1|PREAPPLY:Weapon,Ranged BONUS:COMBAT|TOHIT|-2|PREAPPLY:Weapon,Ranged ---> BONUS:WEAPON|ATTACKS|1|PREAPPLY:Weapon,Ranged BONUS:WEAPON|TOHIT|-2|PREAPPLY:Weapon,Ranged
(so it only applies to the weapon you select instead of ALL combat)

I don't know if TYPE:=Temporary is wanted/required/etc. Deadly Aim has that modifier and this is a similar option sorta deal.

Actually I lied...the AttackOption flag doesn't make it stack the two temp bonuses on one line in the output. Not sure what do to to make that happen.

the lack of versatile human makes me sad
would love to see this include all the race books
was really hoping for some blood of angels love in here

still really nice job with it

You could pretty easily make a Versatile human LST entry. Hack something together using the current human as an example.

As a side note I don't understand why this program uses LST files instead of a relational SQL DB or at very least XML. LST files are tedious :(. And OMG you guys love tabs haha :)...why is every entry is so massively tab inflated? Hard to read often times due to that.

Blood of Angels - Jira, however there is no active monkey working on it.

Advanced Race Guide - Jira, and LegacyKing (above) is actively working on it and farming out checking the data set out, since it has to be done in pieces as it affects the core sets also.

Likely this is already a known issue, but in 6.00.00 when I tried to make a monk with the sensei archetype, it took away my 1st level monk bonus feat, when as far as I can tell, sensei only replaces 2nd level monk bonus feat. I don't think it activated the new class skills either.

At 2nd level, it didn't allow me to add my Wis to attack and CMB in lieu of Strength either--or couldn't find an option to do that anyway.

Haven't tried any of the new alphas.

I am not one of the monkeys, just a long-time fan.

Anytime you have years of development and effort into a project like this, it takes a lot of careful consideration to make changes as massive as you refer to. Yes, it might make sense to do it differently if you started the project today, but in this case, you are looking at supporting years of code and all those existing users - you can't rip and replace without a lot of grief. Since the project is completely supported by a limited pool of volunteers with other time constraints, change is best done gradually and carefully lest someone dive into a major overhaul and have RL sideswipe them and take them off the project - which I believe has happened with some monkeys.

I am sure they would welcome your contributions if you have time to code with them. And I've heard that some of the items you comment on have been reviewed, but it is a major architectural change, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Again, I am not a monkey, so this should be construed as an official response from them, just my view from the sidelines.

What he said!

XML was looked at before, but the massive overhaul would take so much time and we have precious little of that with volunteers anyway.

Edit; And the additional tabs in the files, I believe are from prettylst which all our data is run thru for checking and formatting.

For adding the Wis to attack and CMB, could it be put into a class feature option?

For example, when you create a human, half-elf, or half-orc, under racial abilities in the feats/abilities tab, you pick your bonus ability score there.

So if you add the sensei archetype and hit 2nd level monk, an option could show up in class abilities that you could activate to substitute Wisdom for Strength (or Dexterity, if you have Agile Maneuvers and/or Weapon Finesse). The math is redone for you only if you select it.

Blood of Angels has been requested, but no volunteer is working on it, so the lst files do not exist yet.

Advanced Race Guide has been requested, LegacyKing is actively working on it, and letting a few folks pre-alpha test the pieces that he has done, so it is not available to the general public yet.

Read the posts on the first page, starting with the initial post. The editor was removed, and will be put in at a later level as it was woefully out of date. Some of the other posts tell how to use a text editor, and about the homebrew sub-directory to create you own custom classes.

Also, within the help structure are the lst file classes and I believe that one of them is for classes. Also you can ask on the Yahoo group.

Any help?

Start PCGen. Switch from the Basic Tab to the Advanced Tab for loading files. Make sure you are in Pathfinder RPG mode (upper left). Remove, by double-clicking all entries in the right window pane. Select, by double-clicking from the left pane, under Paizo, Core Rulebook, Bestiary 1, and Advanced Players Guide so they are now in the right pane. Load them.

The options you are looking for are now available.
