I mean I don't consider myself a complete noobsauce, but I don't want to damage any fun that other people are having.
The only thing I need to really make sure I keep straight is spellstrike which trips up a lot of people I think. I found a good guide on spellstrike here on the forums. Arcane pool I think is pretty straightforward.

Thanks for the words. I really wanted to try out the archetype system since it was something new to me, but I didn't want to appear to be that guy who digs options out of 12 books to make the gamey-est thing possible
Cheapy wrote:Do you think you'll have fun with it?

If you think the class might be a little overwhelming while you learn the game just go with a simpler one and come back to the Magus once you are ready.

See if the character is legal. If its not a legal Archetype then its pointless to even look at trying it.

This shows us that it is indeed a legal archetype, so you are fine there.

Now I havnt played a Magus before but thematically it reminds me of the 4e Swordmage or Book on 9 Swords Swordsage. What you will find further into the messageboard is actually topics/threads about the Magus directly. I suggest you have a look at some of those.

I had a Gunslinger for a first character. While the Grit rules are there and require a little bit of study at the end of the day hes a fighter with a fighters BAB and HP. He certainly plays different but If you feel you can know the rules for Magus pretty fast then play one. Thats the biggest proviso. You need to know the rules that well so when it comes to your turn, you arnt busying flipping through a pdf or actual book to find what something does or what you want to do. That slows things down for everyone and can make fellow players a little frustrated.

Keep in mind the golden rule: You can rebuild in 1st level. If you dont like where the character is headed or its just not right for you.. change it. Read the Pathfinder Society Guide to Organised Play. Read it again. That's got basically everything you need to know about how to rebuild.

Hope that helps somewhat
Well first things first. See if the character is legal. If its not a legal Archetype then its pointless to even look at trying it.

The majority of the PFRPG that gets played in my area is Society so if I decided to go ahead and start playing it would probably be with PFS.

My question is how would the Spell Dancer be for a first character? I like the whole magic swordsmen thing and that the spell dancer archetype is all about speed, avoiding attacks of opportunity, and dimension dooring around.

At the same time I don't want to burden the GM with a bunch of arcane (no pun intended) rules, or play something that is hard to...well, play.
