If the PCs fail a mission, do they get (followed by what I put on sheet):

1) Experience? I put zero on the chronicle.
2) Prestige for mission? Again a zero.
3) Faction Prestige? For those that completed I gave it to them.
4) Gold? I only gave gp for completed encounters/areas.

1) If they completed at least 3 encounters, they get experience

More info about it::
Award the character XP based on his advancement
track. A PC may only receive XP if he survives the scenario
or is raised from the dead by the scenario’s conclusion and
completed at least three encounters over the course of the
adventure.

2) 0 if the mission failed
3) Give it to those who accomplished their mission
4) You did good!

Remember prestige is awarded differently in earlier seasons.

What scenario are you asking about in particular?

In that case, the answers you got above are correct. Cheers!

I was wondering the most about the XP, since on page 22 of the Guide it says:

Quote:

Standard Advancement: In the standard advancement track, for every scenario that your Pathfinder successfully completes, you receive 1 XP.

Slow Advancement: In the slow advancement track, for every scenario that your Pathfinder successfully completes, you receive 1/2 XP.

(Bold-italics added by me.)

That is why I awarded 0 XP. I didn't notice the blurb in the sheet section (filling the sheet seemed mostly self-explanitory so I didn't fully read the whole section). The two sections seem to contradict each other.

Is it required for a GM to give a character EXP for completing 3 of the encounters and then quitting? One of the players in my area routinely threatens to just quit the scenario before the last encounter, boasting that he will get all the same credit as everyone else. Usually after 5-15 minutes of everyone stroking his ego he goes along and completes the mission. It would be nice if the DM could just say, if you quit you get nothing.

They will get the xp, but not any of the treasure value or item access from the final encounter.

If I was the GM I'd tell that person they are welcome to walk away from the table but the chronicle sheets won't be handed out for another hour when the rest of the table is done playing.

Also there are several ways I can think of that the player's assumption he would get same XP and Prestige as the rest of the table would be incorrect.

Well, he'd get the experience, which is a disadvantage. He leaves not having completed the assignment, so he loses that fame. There's a late-3rd-season scenario where the last encounter in the 3-4 subtier is worth over 950 gp of the 1250 or so the party earns.

So, yes, please, level up with one-quarter gold and only two or three fame. Hope you have plans for coming back to life after your ill-equipped butt gets chewed on by an advanced owlbear.

Ok thanks. The way he was wording it, if he completes majority of the scenario he gets the same spoils as everyone else. I, and apparently no one else in the area, ever went back into the book to see if that was actually the case.

Thanks for the clarification.

If there ever was a violation of the "don't be a jerk" rule, it's here. Tell him that if he quits for that reason, he's not welcome to play in your table ever again. Also inform your local Venture Officer and he will likely pass on the information to other GMs in the area.

I agree with this 100%. It's one thing if the guy is just trying to flaunt his rules knowledge and hog a little spotlight for a minute. I can overlook that. But, if he is really being a jerk I'd follow Jussi's advice.
