Oracle of Life Question(s)

Rules Questions

Andoran

I made it questions as I might come up with more.

I made a Sorcerer/Oracle of Life. So far I took the revelations Channel and Safe Curing (My current GM likes to try and kill me quickly. This results in me in being in combat.)

My next Revelation is going to be Enhanced Cures. Another player and I were debating as to whether or not I could apply the revelation to a scroll I am using. This came up as he plans to make me some scrolls of Mass Cure Light Wounds.

I felt yes I could as I have to finish casting the spell on the scroll and he felt the answer was no due to him not having the revelation.

This has led to me wondering which one is right and if I can apply my revelation to scrolls or potions I make for other players.

No, your revelation only applies to spells you personally cast.

I agree, you have to cast the spell yourself for it to apply.

Also note that Enhanced Cures is pretty crappy. It does almost nothing. Since you brought it up, it'll never actually apply to a Mass Cure Light Wounds, since that spell already goes up to CL 25.

No, the thing that makes the Life Oracle something special is the combination of Life Link, Channeling, and Energy Body. If you don't have those Revelations, you're not living up to your potential.

Andoran

My main argument on allowing it on scrolls was the way a scroll works. Its pretty much you completing the casting of the spell at the time. Since everything that affects a spell caster during casting affects the use of a scroll I felt the answer should be yes.

For the most part my GM agreed with my reasoning, but decreed nothing else could be affected by it and I agreed.

Not taking Life Link. My character would wind up to close to death or dead within two games. My GM read the revelation and said I take damage until he is under 5 points of damage. That includes the healing of our tanks afterwards.

I'm taking Enhanced Cures for when I need maximum on low-level healing spells. The oracle part of my character does not burn through spells quickly so I 'll have plenty of heal spells to go through.

Energy Body looks cool, but I'm undecided. She is a Sorcerer/Oracle. Concept is a Magic Item Crafter and Healer. Working fairly well so far.

That's the point of Life Link--you take damage while they heal, then you use Channel to heal both of you at once or Energy Body you heal yourself as a move action. If you can Shield Other, that's awesome, too. And it will never kill you because you can sever it at any time.

That's just it, though. What level are you? It might add a few measly points to Cure Light Wounds if your Oracle side is above 5, but aren't you part Sorcerer, too? Are you ever going to be over level 10 Oracle for it to matter on even Cure Moderate?

I'm just saying, Life Link/Channel/Energy Body makes for the unquestioned best healer possible--my party has never dropped while I had that going.

It burns through very quickly, but I have been using quick channel and ranged healing to good effect.

The life oracle also makes an excellent blaster vs. undead.

I agree that it sounds logical, but I don't believe the RAW allow you to use abilities like that on spell completion items unless it is specifically stated.

Energy body is good to make you resistant to crits and backstabs and so that everyone else can get their heals by just moving through your spot. That allows you to do something else with your turn.

There is an armor enhancement that can give you another revelation.

And once again, even if Enhanced Cures worked on scrolls (it doesn't), it doesn't actually matter because it would have zero effect on a scroll of Mass Cure Light WOunds.

Mass Cure Light Wounds has a caster level cap of +25. How do you plan on exceeding that limit with Oracle levels, exactly?

Actually, why is he making you scrolls of Mass Cure Light Wounds in the first place? If you can't cast the spell yourself (and all Oracles of the appropriate level learn all Cure spells automatically), then you have to make a check to cast it. Why is spending the money to make a scroll and risking failure like that worth it to your party over him just casting the spell when needed?

Actually, what exactly is your build? When you said Sorcerer/Oracle, I assumed you were going for Mystic Theurge, but then realized that if someone was at least 9th level (the level required to cast Mass Cure Light Wounds for a cleric), then you'd have your first MT level, and the Life mystery would be pretty weak, especially Channeling and Enhanced Cures which rely on Oracle levels (i.e. don't stack with Mystic Theurge levels).

Then I started thinking maybe you just took Sorcerer for the Arcana, but now I can't figure out what Aracana would be beneficial to a Life Oracle healer type. What is the ultimaate goal of this character and those Sorcerer levels?

Regardless, though, did I mention yet how much of a waste Enhanced Cures is? I did? Let me reiterate: Enhanced Cures is one of the worst Life Oracle revelations. It's not the worst, that "honor" goes to Healing Hands, but it's still really weak (and is even worse for you because you're multi-classed).
Even Safe Cures is not especially impressive, either, considering:
1) Life Link, Energy Body, and Channel provide concentration check free healing already
2) You can cast your cure spell when not in anyone's threatened area, then move to The target before making the free touch
3) The Mass cure spells are coming up for you and you can heal at range with them
4) Concentration checks are really easy after the first few levels.

If I had to rank the Revelations for the Life Oracle, I'd definitely go something like:
Channel/Life Link/Energy Body > Lifesense > Combat Healer/Spirit Boost/Delay Affliction > Safe Curing > Enhanced Cures > Healing Hands

We are using a homebrew version of the Arcane Bloodline only it is divine in nature. The oracle part was not going to happen until about level 21 originally. Then something happened that caused me to take it earlier than I planned as it fit with the way everything played out.

I play with concepts not power. The sorcerer is mostly as I am building an item creationist with those levels. The oracle is more for he side of her that enjoys healing people. Life fit that role perfectly.

That said I already selected all of my revelations. I took channeling as its always useful.

I took Safe Curing as my GM likes to put monsters with reach out and put me in the middle of combat as well. (They are of the opinion I'm the most dangerous)

I am taking Enhanced Cures, Spirit Boost, Combat Healer and Life Link. In about that order to. This game intends our characters to reach level 60 and we can possibly hit level 30 in our classes.

We are RP heavy and things get added to our characters via the RP and my GM likes to use Central Casting for backgrounds so I have +12 modifier on my Charisma. And a +11 on my Intelligence, but I'm going charisma based for everything. The modifiers just makes things like using that Mass Cure Spell fairly easy for me to do despite not being high enough for it yet.

Eventually I'll take Mystic Theurge but not until about level 51 or so after another class that boosts my spell casting. At level 60 she'll act as a level 40-45 caster on both classes if I planned it right.

What the--ok, I'm not sure you can even call what you're playing Pathfinder anymore. I don't think any advice I could possibly give you would matter. Good luck, have fun.
