Shadow Lodge ** Venture-Lieutenant, Florida—Jacksonville aka Kyrie Ebonblade,

I just had this pop up for Herolab.. but it brings up a valid point for all my players.

Are the racial spells STRICTLY for those races or can anyone use them if they are listed as 'Legal for play' in the additional resources.

I think they are supposed to be race-only. Though some spells (namely paragon surge) are personal and only used on members of a specific race

From the additional resources

"Note: Alternate racial traits, racial archetypes, racial feats, and racial spells are only available for characters of the associated race. "

You may want to consult the Additional Resources first.

Additional Resources wrote:

Note: Alternate racial traits, racial archetypes, racial feats, and racial spells are only available for characters of the associated race. Racial equipment and magic items can be purchased and used by any race as long as the specific item permits it (for example, only halflings can purchase and use solidsmoke pipeweed).

The new alchemist discovery on page 44 is legal for play for characters of all races.

Shadow Lodge ** Venture-Lieutenant, Florida—Jacksonville aka Kyrie Ebonblade,

Thanks.. you should SEE the error list the new patch put in.

IT'S HUGE.. Every human character I have is flagged for illegal bard/sorcerer spell (even if they aren't bard or sorcerer)

FWIW, I personally like having the spells and such restricted to those specific races. It adds a bit of uniqueness to them.

Quick question Mike, what about the fetchling Eidolon evolutions? I'm assuming those fall under racial spells/feats/archetypes and not equipment/items? i.e. Only fetchlings can take take Shadow Blend and Shadow Form? (that's how I advised a player drooling over these last weekend)

Shadow Lodge ** Venture-Lieutenant, Florida—Jacksonville aka Kyrie Ebonblade,

I just removed the spells from my spell lists (on my toons) and will tell my friend who emailed me the same.

It's easier for me since I haven't played/used those characters yet. :D

And I agree.. they do make them more unique.

Yes, only a Fetchling can take Shadow Blend and Shadow Form.

Thanks for this clarification. Had a player wishing to use these as a tiefling.

Please clarify this in the next Additional Resources as the construction was DEFINITELY implying that it was legal. (We have a local player who had a synthesist built around these, and the eidolon kept it after the ban).

Will do.

Per the link provided, Michael Brock ruled those spells legal. At least that is my understanding of what was written.

Racial spells found in Avanced Race Guide are for the specified race only. Any future books will also have the same restriction. Books that came out before Advanced Race Guide are open for all as outlined in Additional Resources.

Considering it comes from the ARG, does

Scion of Humanity:
Some aasimars' heavenly ancestry is extremely distant. An aasimar with this racial trait counts as an outsider (native) and a humanoid (human) for any effect related to race, including feat prerequisites and spells that affect humanoids. She can pass for human without using the Disguise skill. This racial trait replaces the Celestial language and alters the native subtype.
count as specifically being human in regards to the ARG material?

And as a side note, Scion of humanity really makes me wish I could have an Aasmiar younger then 64 years old, one that specifically doesn't know that they are an Aasmiar, plus the whole I was born to a human family with two human parents, but somehow didn't reach level 1 until I was at least 64, what would be considered middle age for a human, and likely after both my human parents died doesn't make a ton of sense.

Oops my bad!
