It is 630, do you know where your game is? :D

In case any of you have misplaced it:

Alright, throwing open invites to replace Tinkerer, he did not inform me of his lack of attendance.

- Gauss

Before I write up a profile, other than the obvious negative reactions, would a tiefling with the oversized arms variant trait be acceptable? Haven't really found any evil campaigns to use 'er in, so thought I might as well ask (and otherwise, I'll toss up something else; VTT/Skype groups are my cup of tea).

Axolmotl:

I do not use the optional d100 table (which is the source of that variant trait). Sorry. However, I do allow all of the variant tiefling races (Blood of Fiends) and options out of the ARG. There is a tiefling in the group already so you will not be the only one.

Edit: are you familiar with Roll20?

- Gauss

I'm familiar with VTTs, and have been wanting to use Roll20. Unfortunately, I haven't found a group with which to use it yet. I like to think I'm a fast learner with various software, though. And the variant table being banned is really no surprise. Cheesing out large weapons with no penalty instead of darkness 1/day is pretty ridiculous.

Roll20 is a snap to learn. I can teach it to you in about 20minutes or so.

Far far easier than certain other VTTs. Note: it does not work with IE unless you have the chrome plugin.

- Gauss

Well, good thing I use Chrome. Well. Did use Chrome. My computer's motherboard stopped working, and I had to ship it out to the man who built it, but it should arrive later today, Saturday at latest. I noticed you play on Wednesdays, so I imagine that's no trouble?

No trouble. Just have your character finished before then. There are other applicants and I need to decide on a player before Wednesday. Considering possible revisions etc. finishing up sooner rather than later is a good idea.

- Gauss

Axolmotl, People have been having problems with the PDF that I have then to use. Feel free to use Mythweavers for your character sheet and post the link instead.

M Human Expert 3

Yay for more tieflings.

My go-to evil character is usually either rolled as a sorcerer or vivisectionist, which would sort of be redundant to put up for application, given the party. Plus, I draw all of my PCs, and there's just so much fun to be had with tieflings (and aasimars as well).

M Human Expert 3

Well depending on the life span of my poor cleric, we might need another caster soon. He's currently stabilized at -2 mid-prison break.

Well, if your GM accepts the profile for the tiefling (computer's arriving tomorrow for certain) I'd be playing her, and I'd feel a bit awkward throwing every character that would fit in the campaign at him, what with others vying for the spot. More for him to go through, more chances he likes one of my PCs. While I enjoy playing evil characters, as a person, I feel bad about tipping scales and pestering people (even though I'd enjoy playing my creepy doctor as much as my mama bear tiefling).

Start with the assumption that DC's cleric is going to live. Run with that assumption.

- Gauss

Can do. I've got everything for the melee tiefling written up, and I was going to format it and toss it your way tomorrow.

I have a friend who can play every wednesday, I will get him to post in the character recruitment thread.

Ok, tell him to make it quick. I will determine who is in on tuesday or early wednesday morning and he will need time for revisions.

- Gauss

he's posted his mythweavers link in the other thread.

I haven't been paying attention to the thread, sorry. Do we have our next date set? I don't want to miss it.

afaik it is wednesday at the same time.

Correct, wednesday same time (830pm Eastern).

The link to the game has changed, please check your paizo inboxes for the new link.

Hey, sorry about the Charm Person snafu. I should have remembered that detail about the enemies breaking the charm effect. I should have stopped GMing about an hour earlier (fatigue). Ahhh well.

Regarding crafting it seems like there is some confusion there so perhaps this will clear it up:

If you craft for yourself you pay the cost to craft it. Cost is usually half of the price (not including components).

If you craft for someone else then that person needs to pay full price. The total price vanishes, you do not pocket the difference between price and cost. The fluff of where that difference goes is up to you. Some suggestions are: I need to make a donation to the church, I want to build my mansion and this is my fee, I cannot make it for you at cost because it wont work for anyone but me.

In my games consumables (excluding wondrous item consumables) are made at cost regardless of who gets the item. Otherwise the math gets weird.

Summary: Crafting for yourself should benefit you in some way. For Craft Magic Arms and Armor it usually amounts to a +1attack/damage bonus and +1 or 2 AC bonus. For Craft Wondrous Item it usually amounts to a +1ability score modifier and +1 resistance bonus to saves. This is worth a feat (and maybe a bit extra) but not everyone should get this for free.

Please have level 2 character sheets ready by next week so that we can quickly level when you find a place to rest.

Treasure: 3376gp totaled.
Whiskey (25gp)
Silver holy symbol (25gp difficult to sell, 5gp melted down)
Holy book 5gp (worthless except to a do-gooder)
Coins (1380gp which includes 100gp from veil and 30gp from Tomas that I forgot to mention)
Ring (100gp)
marked cards (1gp)
5 Noble Outfits (375gp)
Wizard's Class Ring (250gp)
Ioun Torch (75gp)

Unmarked Weapons:
Heavy Mace (12gp, Cain)
Quarterstaff (-gp, Garoth)
Greatsword (50gp, Zomert)
Longbow (75gp, Zomert) + a reasonable amount of arrows
3 Daggers (2gp each, 2 from the Veil, 1 from the scullery maid)
1 Masterwork Dagger (302gp, unmarked, Richter carried)

Scrolls (all minimum level):
Magic Missile (25gp)
Sleep (25gp)
Hideous Laughter (150gp)
Invisibility (150gp)

Spellbook (350gp):
2nd: Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere, Hideous Laughter, Invisibility
1st: Alarm, Charm Person, Expeditious Retreat, Feather Fall, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Mount, Shield, Sleep
0th: All 0 level wizard spells in CRB.

Things I do not think were picked up but want to confirm: Shiv (improvised dagger), Battleaxe, Rapier, Trident, Glaive, Spear.

Things you cannot sell without difficulty: Every longsword, Heavy Steel Shield, Chain Shirt, etc that you picked up from the guards. They are all marked. While the spellbook is also marked it can be sold since Richter's mark is not well known.

- Gauss

Kovu did take the Shiv (improvised dagger) but you told us that the shiv wouldn't count as an improvised weapon, that it has the stats as a normal dagger.

Yes, even though I stated that it did not have the penalties it is still an improvised weapon as far as selling is concerned. The above deals with prices, not attack penalties. :)

M Human Expert 3

Would it work if Cain used the Ioun Torch? While he has darkvision, he's not exactly going to be sneaking around and will be in combat for the most part. If he's always lit up, it should give our ranger and ninja targets to hit while not illuminating themselves.

Thoughts?

I imagine Kovu as a very superstitious person. He'll try to hold on to the shiv for personal use. Maybe later even have it reforged as a masterwork shiv and enchanted or something, assuming everyone's okay with that

Well, there is that masterwork dagger sitting around, which would probably be better for fighting. He could keep the shiv around for use in coup de grace or something.
Also, since the character I thought would be int based is actually con based, and apparently no one knows much in the party, I was thinking of switching to a melee alchemist with monk/magus dipping at some point or another. In theory, it'll work. Anyways, I can toss a progression list onto Skype in case anyone thinks it's a decent enough idea, and Gauss isn't comatose anymore and okays the possible rework.

M Human Expert 3

It might be useful, but I'm not sure that knowledge skills are worth a rebuild. Cain has Know:Religion and will likely pick up Planes next level.

It'll also increase the party's general survivability due to higher-leveled cure potions, and more infusions I can pass around, as well as personal survivability due to having my own more reliable source of mage armor, and after 3 levels of Kensai, I'll get another chunk of defense as well as a bit of offense. Downside is that the 3 Kensai levels will be 9-12.

how are we doing hp gain at level up?

Your choice: You can either take average+0.5 (same as PFS) OR you can roll. You must declare this before you roll. So no rolling badly and then deciding to take the average.

- Gauss

M Human Expert 3

So we are still playing tonight at 5:30 PST, correct?

No, we are not playing until next week on the 2nd. People decided they could not make it tonight.

- Gauss

M Human Expert 3

Oh, okay then.

Just to be clear: when I say 'decided' I thought it was decided over a week ago. People didn't just drop out on short notice. :)

- Gauss

Confirming that we are gaming tonight. Mr. Swagger has notified me that he may not be available tonight.

- Gauss

M Human Expert 3

I'll be there.

Confirming attendance.

Treasure for tonight's adventure: 2000gp per person.
Party Treasure: 1950 + Potion of Cure Light Wounds.

You hit level 3.

Axolmotl, please get with me before the next game.

- Gauss

The following are a selection of traits to choose from. You may select 1 trait. Or, if you would like, propose your own. You will gain the trait you select when you level (which for most intents and purposes, is now).
Reminder: Trait bonuses do not stack so if you already have a +2 initiative bonus from a trait, do not select another +2 initiative bonus trait.

“Asmodeus is with you.”
Adrastus Thorn indoctrinates you into the deeper mysteries of worshipping the Prince of Hell. Whenever you channel energy, you gain a +1 trait bonus to the save DC of your channeled energy.[/spoiler]

“Deception is a tool. Master it.”
Adrastus Thorn teaches you the subtle arts of deception and how to sense when they are being used against you. You gain a +1 trait bonus to Bluff and Sense Motive.

“Discover what is real and what is illusion.”
Adrastus has taught you to see through deceptions and to never lie to yourself. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against illusions.

“Fear nothing save our dread lord.”
Adrastus Thorn has shown you fear and taught you to master it within yourself. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

“Focus strengthens your will.”
Adrastus Thorn drills you on ways to avoid magic that seek to take control of your mind and divert you from your mission. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against charm and compulsion effects.

“Let us perfect your favorite spell”
Adrastus Thorn drills you again and again in the use of one particular spell. Pick one spell. This spell’s effects manifest at +1 caster level.

“Quiet as death”
The Cardinal trained in the arts of being silent and stealthy. You gain a +2 trait bonus to Stealth checks.

“Strike first, strike ruthlessly and thus be victorious”
Cardinal Thorn has taught you never to shirk or hesitate in a combat. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks.

“Wear your armor like a second skin.”
You have drilled extensively in wearing armor in combat. When you wear armor of any sort, reduce that suit’s armor check penalty by 1 to a minimum check penalty of 0.

“You shall be my angel slayer.”
Adrastus thorn spends exhausting amounts of time teaching you about good celestials, their strengths and weaknesses. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Knowledge (planes) checks about good-aligned celestials and receive a +1 trait bonus to any damage roll you make against them.

I have a question. Since we're allowing players to make their own custom races, and since of those players the only one taking advantage of the mechanics is to create a cyborg, can I add Dark Vision to my base human race? It's only the difference of two points, bringing human up to 11 from 9, bringing me up to par with the rest of the group.

No player has made a custom race. Chapter 4 of the ARG is not allowed.

We have the following:
Human- Ranger
Human- Ninja
Orc - Witch
Tiefling - cleric
Android (nerfed) - monk

The RPs in the group are 9, 9, 8, 13, 12 for an average of 10.2.

You chose human. Why has the inclusion of an android suddenly changed your view of your choice? As I stated, I nerfed it down to reasonable.

No, You may not have darkvision. You chose human.

- Gauss

I disagree that androids are custom races. Android is a custom race, even if the rules used to create it are "by the book", Android isn't part of the standard pregenerated races, it is therefore a custom race. And apparently a human with darkvision is more unlikely than an android (specifically an android, not some type of magical golem with it's own will like the Warforged; a walking talking robot). I feel like you're only allowing one player to customize their race. Saying I picked human and I'm stuck with that is pretty unfair considering I didn't understand how the custom races rules worked, and in the end the overall difference of two racial points could be easily overlooked, especially with a gap of 4 points separating your highs from your lows.

I'ma be clear about this. I do not agree with the addition of an android, and you're only allowing it because there aren't rules directly against it. This is a fantasy setting, not sci-fi, dungeons and dragons, not Dragon Star. And these feelings aren't new, I've been trying to dance around them since I heard we were going to be adding a half-vampire to the party.

However, I have very little power to overturn what I consider an unfair call. I think I may withdraw. These sessions have only ever been frustrating to me. I'm not enjoying my character either because he's needed as a front line fighter or because stealthing in pitch blackness is impossible, and I'm not very interested in playing another fighter.

Crypteck, the android is a published race just like the Warforged was a published race. Hence, not custom. A custom race is a race that the players or GM design using chapter 4 of the ARG.

Pathfinder Androids are not just walking robots. They are alive. They have constitution scores. They are very similar to Warforged in this regard but since Warforged are protected IP Pathfinder could not integrate them.

Regarding Pathfinder being a 'fantasy setting', perhaps you should read up more on Golarion. It is most certainly a mixed setting. Numeria has all sorts of alien tech. There are gunpowder weapons. Are these things common? No. But do they exist? yes.

This campaign is set in Golarion. Androids are from Numeria in Golarion (Inner Sea Bestiary). Thus, this is not a rules or setting issue.

I am sorry you feel my calls are unfair. They are pretty much by the book.

When I posted the rules for character creation I stated that most of the books and rules would be allowable including the various races from the ARG (with some being unavailable on a case by case basis). You could have selected a race with darkvision. Many people who make characters that rely on stealth do.

I have also felt that you have struggled in my game. I am sorry for that and have tried to get you on board but I also feel it is not working out. If you wish to withdraw I understand.

- Gauss

You say you've been trying to get me on board like there's something wrong with the way my character has been playing. He wears light armor and his dex is not his strongest stat by a long shot, and yet everyone keeps insisting that he's a front line fighter, the kind of character who can stand there and keep squares secure from enemy advance, when he CAN'T. The problem isn't my Ninja, the problem is that we don't have a real tank.

If they are Warforged or something like them, then it would have been named Warforged or something other than Android.

And the idea that the technology, either magical or mechanical, for creating androids is more advanced than firearms is absurd. In Eberron they had Warforged, but they also had guns that didn't explode in your face every time you fire them. In fact Eberron firearms rules are quite fair, I don't understand why they aren't being implemented. The developed technology in Eberron is easy to stand by because it's consistent. You can't call a setting incapable of pumping out reusable firearms when it can pump out live robots. Just because there are rules for Androids doesn't mean you should let them into your party. It's the same concept as letting players make Minotaur or Lich characters.

So yeah, until such time as playing a normal character (y'know, the style of character the AP called for in the first place by the AP!) is no longer underpowered, or until the party can survive an encounter without the GM fudging rolls, I'll be withdrawing.

Ninjas are potential front line builds just like Clerics and Rogues. Light armor is not that big a deal if you have the Dex to fill it. It is your choice not to use your defensive abilities. I cannot dictate that to you.

As for Warforged, they CANNOT use the name Warforged. It is intellectual property. Some of the 3.5 rules are not open game license. Certainly most if not all of Eberron was not.

The 'style of character' the AP 'called' for was a social style. It did not preclude combat styles. I have been stating from the beginning that if a player takes a race that could have social difficulties that player should also spend points in skills such as Disguise. They have pretty much satisfied this requirement.

I actually haven't 'fudged' much of anything. I felt Ive been pretty normal to be honest. Rolling above the board prevents fudging. The only things that 'might' have been fudged are when I make an error in the rules (charm person) or I let someone go back to undo an action that was obviously in error (if the action is not too long ago). That is just me being nice and polite. If you want a ruthless GM, I am not he.

However, thanks for the notification that you are withdrawing rather than just leaving without a word. I appreciate it. Ill see you in the monday campaign.

- Gauss

Khantin, assuming he is still interested please inform your friend that he has until next monday to get his character completed and submitted. This will give me time to review it before wednesday.

Level 3, 3000gp, 2 normal traits, 1 crime trait, 1 new trait (see my post earlier).

- Gauss

Light armor is not that big of a deal is you have the dex. I do not have much dex, a point I've been trying to hammer in since the very first session. And yes, classes with light armor can survive in the front line if they've built for it. But like you said, the AP called for more social than combat, it called for normal human races rather than tieflings and androids. I'm one of the only players who built their character after the suggestions of the AP guidelines.

So why do I feel like I'm the only one suffering because of his choices?
