Cool, she has a horned helm! Love it!
Revery has silver moons on his robes...
Sometimes the classics are best. ;)
P.S. Are any of the swords in the evils' boat longswords or something else, or all shortswords?

I had planned only for daggers and short swords, but we will leave it up to the fates.
Something Else? 1 = Yes, 2 = No

Working on a fast forward post as we speak in Diablerie.
Tomorrow I hand the game to Jeremy.
Revery |
Description of our chains. Is it one manacle each, with an attached (3'?) chain, and then a strong ring at the end that was attached to the ship's pipe? And weighs how much?
It could be a useful tool in some circumstances.
Xenh |
Hope everyone is getting an EverQuest feel with 98 quests on the go...and we've only gotten started!

It could be a useful tool in some circumstances.
Single wrist shackle with a ring that a heavy chain is linked into. The other end of the chain has a crude ring at the other just large enough to encompass the pipe.
It weighs 8.0 lbs.
improvised weapon, 1d6 damage, 20/x2, 1HB, 8.0 lbs.

<hands the keys to the Diablerie-mobile over to Jeremy>
Enjoy!
All questions, concerns, b!+*+es and complaints should be directed to Jeremy : )

Remember I now leveled enough times as a DM to bring down a Blue bolt on characters with out losing too much XP :). Pretty much, helping me learn the rules (that means the rule lawyering helps out the DM and much as the players) Let's have some fun :)

That's right mammalian b!@@&es, I haz a clock!
Be jealous!
(i had to abuse that typo, it made me laugh when i read it. The image of the iksar standing there with a Grandfather clock on his back popped into my head)

My clock is bigger (both thicker and longer) than your clock!

Gwendalyn |
<insert joke about how it's not the size of the clock that matters>
Are we standing there pondering our next move by the Militia House or the Desert of Ro?
Revery |
Right, and where were we all standing when we saw the Iksar tail?
Piter de Colmar |
Can we assume we (baddies) are at full hp? We've had several days, and four of us have ranks in Heal.
Piter de Colmar |
Geez, three of us have ranks in the Trade Skill (make poison). Maybe we could open a shoppe! Arsenic R Us!
Piter de Colmar |
How big are the kegs of ale?
Also, what state is the ship in? If it is good or repairable, Piter would want to climb down there and try to tie it off before going.
Fredrik |
1. On further consideration, I think that the description of the Desert of Ro was just an interjection, and we're still standing near the Militia House.
2. The evils are at full hp and mana as described in this post.
3. Hmm. Call it "The Edge" and it would also work for Kur'Plugh's alchemy, and -- in a more literal way, that could provide legal cover -- Zaruksis's blacksmithing.
4. The ship needs a lot of repair, and it isn't going anywhere anyway, as described in this post.
Xenh |
If a Revery post mentions some cheesy pun like "Conann" again...I will send the attached erudite to char gen :)
Good:
You are standing where you met up with the Captain, which is right by the militia house, and also where you caught a glimpse of the iksar.
The description of the desert was just an interjection. I left you hanging to decide what your next course of action might be, since there's only about 907 directions one might go from this point :)
BTW, for those that haven't played the online game, this is so it...just a tonne of quests you're on and constantly working towards finishing.
Evil:
I'll find a different place to put my points, so we don't have so much redundancy in the exact same tradeskill.
Xenh |
Not sure if my mentioning for people to include a move silently roll was confusing, since that's a D&D v3.0/3.5 construct and EQ had already combined it into one skill, though they called it Hide, rather than Stealth.
So when I call for "move silently" checks just use the hide skill and feel free to roll your eyes at me.
Zaruksis |
It was Evil JB that called for Move Silently, not you -- and EQ calls it Sneak, which is opposed by Listen (whereas Hide is opposed by Spot). ;)
Perhaps we should have two ooc threads now that we have two DMs, to help you keep track of who you are? :) It would also help me decide which alias to use; sometimes I post as Fredrik just because I can't be Zaruksis and Gwendalyn at the same time.

Oh I know it was Jeremy that called for the move silently. I just figured that it was me asking for it in The Torture Chamber that was the bad influence on him.
Good catch! Listen to the leesard, he is as right as I am un/anti/a/contra-correct.
I had not found move silently, and then read the description, where it spoke of "use the Hide skill to remain unseen, whether moving or stationary" and came to wrong conclusion.

If the majority wishes it, then I will see what I can do to put another thread in (not sure how that would be done).
My vote would be to keep them together, despite some of the growing pains that might come from the union of games, since it saves time for all involved (especially important for time-pressed DM/Guides) and makes the games feel like one big sandbox with us playing different Matchbox cars.
In here you're free to post as whomever you wish : )
I generally post my DM/OOC posts from my Xenh alias, then my specific character from another alias in the hopes that eliminates confusion. YMMV.
Gwendalyn |
Sorry, but I was just not able to figure out what I wanted to do before crashing into bed. Tomorrow.

Another option was the expensive one, which was to book passage upon the Ocean of Tears from Freeport to Freefield, Kerras or Farport by boat. A sailing ship found no issue with terrain and could travel almost 50 miles in a day, since it could travel through the night. Prices would depend on your skills at negotiating passage (requires a diplomacy check to modify the cost of 30 gold each to Freefield, 50 gold to Kerras and 70 gold to Farport, camels cost another 10 gold each no matter how long the journey might be).
Is that price correct for adding a camel to a ship journey?
Zaruksis |
"Are any of you experienced with creatures such as these? I imagine that our tactics will change significantly, especially in terms of target acquisition, if they have healers or arcane spell casters within their midst."
I rolled for humanoid monster lore in this post, but didn't get a response. (Note: the Sneak was a premature roll. Not actually approaching the cave yet.)

Yes.
Gwendalyn |
Oh, I get it now! That's the price for a camel's passage on a ship, after buying or renting the dromedary in Freeport! Derp.
Evil JB |
Sorry that last post was from my phone, yes those of you that had the creature lore roll, got this:
Goblins are nocturnal creatures, they use their numbers to overbear their enemies, usually evil and cowards, they don't have a lot of HP and the average AC is around 15. Shamans are common with the goblins, as are warriors, a tribe of 12 goblins is a small one, they attack caravans and other creatures in numbers.
Loki My'thrandr |
Awaiting the following information to post...
Loki:
- measures the distance between the dark group and the cave
- tries to determine how many goblins are within
- how large the fire is
- whether there are sentries
- movements in/out of the cave
- how easy it would be to get some of their force above the cave entrance.
Revery |
How much water do we use per day, normally? (I know the desert requires twice that..) And how much does a camel require?
Xenh |
Loki:
the group is 20 feet away from the entrance, there are 12 goblins in the cave. The fire takes up a 10 foot square, no movement is coming in or out of the cave, and no issue getting some of the group above the cave entrance.
You're pretty : )
Danke!
<runs off to do a post>
Xenh |
How much water do we use per day, normally? (I know the desert requires twice that..) And how much does a camel require?
You need about a ~4 litres/1 gallon of water per day for a medium-sized creature. In the desert it is double that.
As to how much your two-humped camel would need you have no clue (but you are positive that you wouldn't want to drink out of the same barrel as it), so asking the guy that will rent/sell it to you and he laughs as he assures you that the beast of burden will not need to drink for a fortnight. Apparently these lumpy horses can drink up to 200 litres in a day, and they must be magical since that's obviously nonsense otherwise.
I don't want to do the math on what a filled to the brim 10 cubic foot capacity barrel weighs, but it's not something you'll want to cart around sans a beast of burden.
Kwen |
We should get another barrel or two, that way there would be at least 4 to 5 barrels, also I made sure that we have a lot of extra water skins just to be sure that we would have a few days of water to carry around us.
Revery |
I thought we were going by camel, over land?
Xenh |
I thought we were going by camel, over land?
As far as I have gleaned, and please correct me if I am wrong, but the group appears to be booking passage to Freefield (the closest town at the northernmost edge of the desert), and then plans to use their camels from that point to delve out into the desert.
It is unknown where the dervishes and orcs might be hiding in the desert, but time is a factor, so I think they are trying to put more time into desert travel, rather than boat travel.
Gwendalyn |
Well, we were still hashing it out. Turns out that logistics are kind of awkward to do in-character, and not a lot of fun to roleplay. (Watch with amazement as a barbarian does arithmetic!) Gwendalyn's suggestion of taking a boat to Freefield was before learning that it isn't very practical to explore the desert by foot; if we're all getting camels (plus one or two carrying just water), then that increases the cost of a boat ride south, while cutting the benefit in half.
Revery |
To get to Freefield by ship will still require some overland (camel) travel, so I don't know if the ship is worth it. How long is that way?
And yes, doing this by post is difficult....
Revery |
Where are we taking a boat to, and why?
Xenh |
Where are we taking a boat to, and why?
Booked boat passage to Freefield: Sajeek, Gwendalyn, Kwen.
3 real life days have drifted past....
Time has been yours to organize the group's departure, but now is the time for moving forward.
3/4 of the PCs are wanting to hop aboard a boat (tyranny of the majority party of won), so we're doing just that.
You have learned that the closest "port" is more of a beach landing for those wishing to avoid the creatures that dwell upon the plains leading to sand between Freeport and Freefield, and that the aptly named Farport is also not the best option (a hive of scum and villainy, or something), so Kerras seems to be your best bet.
Changing your destination from Freefield to Kerras will result in you each parting with a bit of extra cash.
Revery |
How much is passage to Kerras? Why did you guys book passage to a town more than fifty miles from the water?
I'm quite confused at this point, but I'll go with it.
Revery |
How much are saddlebags for camels in Freeport? The PH doesn't seem to have any of that stuff, or at least, I failed my search check to find it.
Gwendalyn |

As I learned more, I was leaning toward taking the camels overland, but waiting for Sajeek or Kwen to chime in on what I said above. Now I'm even more confused.
Your conversation is dominated by Hazran after your profess your allegiance with Nogglegrop. "The execution is scheduled a fortnight hence from yesterday. Bring me as many cutthroat insignia rings and/or Deathfist scalps as you think the little bastard's life is worth and we will talk." You never had more than a cursory sliver of his attention, for he had never stopped moving as he spoke, screaming out profane orders to those on the watch, and leaves without another word.
Freefield is sold to you in a manner that makes it apparent that it is not a destination that you would like to visit. Freefield is the last source of supplies for travellers before reaching the deep desert to the south, and in part because it sits in a safer stretch of land than most towns. The Deathfist orcs of the Commonlands rarely come as far east as Freefield, and the Scorchfist orces rarely as far north.
Kerras is a sleepy little fishing village.
Farpoint is apparently a nefarious port of unimpressive size, where there are no permanent residents since it is only used by smugglers that wish to avoid the costs of sailing into Freeport's harbour.
A choice needs to be made about whether to disembark at "Freefield", though there is no town there, since it is a day's ride west from the shore, or to continue on to Kerras or Farpoint.
There's no point in going further south than Freefield, since the point is to save Nogglegrop, and Hazran didn't say anything about Scorchfist orcs. Our targets are apparently west of Freefield, which is a day's ride west of the landing; so the boat ride is 40 gold apiece to waste time, not save it. If our characters knew that before getting on the ship, then Gwendalyn wouldn't have.
Revery |
As I wrote earlier. But everyone else (including you?) purchased tickets on an onion boat, so after questioning that on several posts and getting no answer, I moved on. 8^o
"And so the group of four each took his or her own path - one sailing to Kerras, one to Freefield, one taking off on foot and another staying in Freeport to give camel rides to children. And soon Nogglegrop swung back and forth in the sea breeze."
Gwendalyn |
I hadn't actually bought or rented a camel yet in-character, even though that was the new plan, since plans were still changing. Until suddenly they weren't. So one way or another, I'm going to have to retcon something. Needless to say, I'm frustrated; but if our characters really didn't know how far out of their way the boat would take them, then I guess I'll just have to roll with it.
Kwen |
I had gone with renting passage on the trip, I just needed to know which dock we were going to land in.
Kwen |
But Meh it has passed and we are moving on :)
