Yes, your avatar looks like he is doing just that...
Revery |
Does Revery know if he can escape manacles by casting a Minor Illusion spell (which is not an illusion at all - it turns the caster into an object)?
Maruusk |
With no cleric, resurrections won't be all that frequent (you'll have to drag that stinking corpse to the boneknitter), so I'm deferring my decision on how to deal with post-resurrection xp loss until I have had time to muse and/or ruminate a tad more. Maybe post-rez sickness that's profound and lasts awhile...hmm...
Please post here when you feel that your character is done and ready to play. Once all have posted, and Revery/Mike's character sheet requests have been completed, I will remove the emergency brake and put this thing into gear.
Done-ski... Waiting on the feat question...
Revery |
Everyone gets a first level feat, just like in 3.5 (Chapter 3 - Starting Characters).
For training points, we get 7 bonus ones from the GM. I used the 12 points to buy an ability score point..
Revery |
I assume so. It leaves me at 2. If you're at 0 you're disabled.
"When a character's hit point total reaches exactly 0, she is disabled, hovering on the verge of unconsciousness. Her actions are limited to one per round; she can move or attack, but cannot do both in the same round."

My answer is a conditional yes. I see no reason why this spell cannot have a bunch of fun uses, but if my lenient ruling permits a level 1 spell to start solving all manners of difficulties I'll have someone step on you.
Your choices are either bucket, manacle, or broom, if you survive that long and can make a DC 15+spell level channeling check.
Those 4 impact damage are to the PCs and NPCs in th hold? If so Quinaweniel is already dead or almost;she only has 4 HP total.
Yes, the damage hit everyone : ) Bad day to be an NPC as well since many have less hit points than you.
0 = disabled, not dead.
When all the other high elf kids were outside getting fresh air your pale self should have been outside with them, rather than staying indoors and practicing the clarinet.
p.s. If only we had a healer of some sort.... <leaves the thought to linger>

Sorry, after staying up so late Tuesday night watching election results, I crashed early Wednesday night. Didn't get anything done. This is my priority for the rest of the night.
Edit: I think my character sheet is done for everything except for background. Since I'm so far behind, I'll just get down a skeleton, jump in, and flesh it out later.

Oh, yeah, fleshing out on the fly works for moi.
Xenh |
The sea dragon Faydedar would be an appropriate encounter for level 1, right?
MUAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
<more evil cackles with a smattering of finger tenting>
As an aside...
There is the point of no return in this encounter and it is up to you to decide when you leave (unless you're currently stapled to the wall), which is the fine line between hero and corpse (hello there character gen, didn't we just meet like 8 seconds ago?). Remember that you still have a swim to the surface (swim check DC 10) and the boat is getting closer to the bottom of the ocean with each passing round.

I like how you used my spell shorthand. :-) It's going to spread, and I'll be famous!
When you flesh out your character, she'll be naked too....
I guess even the GM is naked.

Character Sheets:
Gwendalyn seems ready, more fluff welcome.
Maruusk is almost ready. Still needs a feat, extra training points (we get 5 plus 7 bonus points), and for some reason he's +4 with his unarmed strike?? Also, he has 5 ranks in Common but only put Common(4) in the languages section.
TIP: To use a quote (") or for inches on a Myth-weavers character sheet, just use two single quotes (''). The sheet eats double quotes but ignores the single ones...
(The other three sheets are also done, but may have to be REdone soon if they drown!)

~8:00am MST is when I try to get a post out.
This is also the time that I judge the day's posting off of. If someone hasn't posted between my two morning posts I just skip them so the rest of the group isn't forced to wait.
I also try to pop in more often, as you've seen today, to field posts or answer questions as my availability provides. Round-based actions (combat, drowning in a ship that's a neighbour to a giant lizard) need a bit of a referee action, but most other times it can just free flow and the more rabid posters can feel free to let it all hang out (as long as they don't post past the edge of the unknown).

I'm in the Pacific Northwest of the United States (GMT-8). Most weekdays, I post between about 8:00 pm and midnight. Sometimes I get up in time to post before work, but I'm a night owl so that's hard; and sometimes I try to hammer out a hasty post on my short lunch break, but I've made dumb mistakes in other games that way. So I don't really do that last one much any more. On weekends and the occasional weekday off, the sky's the limit.
Today was weird because it was my day off, but I worked anyway, but I got off early. And I have a three-day weekend now, thanks to Veterans Day.

EST or GMT-5 or so. Same as most of the Eastern US.
I post whenever....

Let's do OOC questions/comments in the discussion thread : )
I still haven't understand if Quinaweniel needs to do the swim or/and the strenght check or the others already helped her in those.
I called for STR checks if anyone wishes to help the incarcerated escape, it's up to you if you wish to take part, or not:
(please include a strength check in your next post vs. DC 15, each success frees another person, aid another will provide a bonus +2 to your roll with up to two bonuses maximum, as will employing the mop as a lever)
The decision to stay and help, or swim, is 100% yours to make. I have not called for swim checks in-game, since everyone seems to be focused on gathering up the drowning, but I did mention the DC in the discussion thread imagining someone might want to grab you and rocket you to the surface:
Remember that you still have a swim to the surface (swim check DC 10) and the boat is getting closer to the bottom of the ocean with each passing round.
As much fun as it is to murder people I'll be nice this one time (those that have played with me, please don't die of shock) and hint that you should look at the disabled state before moving. I made it crystal clear in-game that if you swam you're dead (unconscious = can't hold breath = next breath is a drink = character generation), and the same holds true for you tugging on pipes. You're floating, but that doesn't mean that you cannot help out/roleplay/act as the party's eyes.
Disabled
Injuries are so severe that any strenuous activity (attacking, running, casting a spell, swimming, et cetera) will reopen them, causing her to pass out and slip into negative hit points.

What's this about a Dwarf??? Whose hand is on Revery's shoulder????
Gwendalyn |
The second slave freed, after the ineffectual woman. ;)

You unleashed it upon the world! Kill it, kill it before it eats the kids!
That's who's comforting thee, and he's one of the few in the room that can see.

Gwendalyn = smart.

From what i was reading, i thought we still had some room to keep the head out of water.Qunaweniel took a deep breath and warned about the sea dragon, so i made the assumption she could still talk.
Nope, you lost the air pocket before I described the glimpse of movement:
"Your next breath is almost a drink. Each of you grabs a handful of air and jam it into your lungs as the air pocket escapes through the weakened boards."
The high elf was not able to utter her earlier words either:
"Quinaweniel sees the sea creature after the hold flooded and as such finds no way to raise herself out of the water to shout her warning"
You were underwater with no air pocket and we were in breath holding actions at that point, so no words were released. No big deal. Miscommunications will happen, and I try not to punish people for them. I explain what happens and that hopefully paints the scene in a clearer light.
Gwendalyn |
Just for heck of it, I added unarmed strike to my character sheet. (It could be useful in a full attack action against multiple unarmed opponents, like in a riot or bar brawl.) If I'm reading the book right, Gwendalyn has a penalty for non-proficiency, even though she has slam. I have an idea for how to roleplay that, if so.

How many are on the 'raft'? Is the Dwarf here? Others?
Xenh |
How many are on the 'raft'? Is the Dwarf here? Others?
"All of the other slaves have been lost to the storm and whether they are dead or alive there is nothing you can do about it."
5 are on the raft: 2x vah shir, high elf, barbarian and erudite.
p.s. I rolled the damage for the elemental damage, so there's no need for each of you to do it. Revery took 1 damage.
p.p.s. It was Gwendalyn that healed you, if you're looking to edit fest.
Revery |
Too bad, the selfless Dwarf who helped us escape the ship has most likely perished!

I would be happy to have a mana pool of 7, but I don't know how you arrived at that number. Also, I would expect Revery's hit points to be 6/6 with 1 subdual point? But I still have a lot to learn about this system, and you could be using a custom mechanic for this situation for all I know. I'm just saying that I don't understand. :)
...
Instead of deducting subdual damage from a character's current hit points, the total amount of subdual damage is tallied separately. Any time a character's total subdual damage equals her current hit points, she is staggered. ... If a character's subdual damage exceeds her current hit points, she passes out. ...Subdual damage heals at the rate of 1 point per hour per character level. ...
Any magical healing that cures normal hit point damage removes an identical number of subdual points at the same time. ...
P.S. I know that rules lawyers can be annoying, so if you don't want me to do that, then just say so and I'll stop. :)

Nope, you're right x2 and it teaches me to post from my phone. It was supposed to be 6 mana and 6 hit points :)

Considering that the rules are relatively new for me and some others here, I don't mind at all.
This particular one is the same as Pathfinder, so it's easy for me to remember.
One question to the GM: If Revery made his save, why is he down 1 subdual point? Or was that before (previous save)?
Gwendalyn |
I think it's a retcon, since yesterday Xenh told Sajeek about the body heat thing; and then he posted after you, but within a reasonable timeframe. So things were a little out of order there, as normal for a PbP. No subdual points, if I'm reading it correctly.
Xenh |
I am pondering whether I should jam a non-hint machine NPC into this group as we speak. If anyone has strong feelings either way please let me know.
One question to the GM: If Revery made his save, why is he down 1 subdual point? Or was that before (previous save)?
I confused everyone (wonders if he should pretend that it was on purpose to like test people...or something...uhm nah) by posting that people should include their fort roll and telling them what the damage die would be for their failure, and then rolled it myself.
People were left to wonder if I just had a die fetish, or if I had rolled for them, so they hedged their bet and rolled as well. In this instance my roll is so low that I'll make life easier for everyone and give them the benefit of that roll, since I'm wearing my Sunday Confusion Hat +2 it appears.
Revery was posted to be down 1 subdual damage as a counter to your roll, but our beastlord wandered by and gave everyone a +4 so Revery barely eked out a successful save, so he's at full health.
Now our beastlord only did one roll, and both his fort and wilderness lore skills have a +3 to them, but he posted that he was doing the wilderness lore first, though he did add a random D6 roll...lol so I just gave the group the higher roll and asked him to re-roll.
If all of that is crystal clear you will be joining me at therapy 8 days a week :)

You for president. 100% correct: retcon with all the subtlety of a MIB mind flashy thing, or 1984 quintuplespeak.
I don't want to punish someone for acting early, and thus missing out on something that came right after that would have benefitted them, unless it causes bucketfuls of extra work.
This one was easy = it's your escape from the womb day.

I am pondering whether I should jam a non-hint machine NPC into this group as we speak. If anyone has strong feelings either way please let me know.
In my experience from playing AD&D in the '90s, the DM got some extra enjoyment from playing a character that kind of hung back, didn't really suggest anything, just went along with the group -- but at least he was a hero. Not like all of the DM's other characters, that were either scenery, plot devices, antagonists, enemies, or outright monsters.
So as far as I'm concerned, it's up to you. If you think that you would enjoy the game more that way, then great! If you're still concerned that you might turn into a hint machine, then maybe it would be easier to leave the character out now than to write it out later. I'm cool with it either way; but it sure does seem a shame that the dwarf that helped us escape didn't make it...
Xenh |
(escorts the OOC comment to the discussion thread)
does quinaweniel need to roll another save?
Nope, successive saves will be done by me.

I know your feelings with problems that can arise with the hint machine. Just don't be afraid to have your GMPC say "I don't know" or "currently out of hints, ask again later, like next month"

that is totally an invasion of my personal life. i thought I had taken all of those camera's down
lolz
Put some pants on!
p.s. I was leaving Gwendalyn's fort saves out of the IC posting, since the subdual damage had not yet gotten to a point where it would bypass her racial cold resistance 3, but I figured it would make more sense if I included it, even though a fort failure means nothing. That way when the damage amps up it won't suddenly look like I'm being mean.
p.p.s. I am being mean, but shh don't tell the players.

Please tell me when I regain mana points. (Otherwise, I'd need to know the exact number of minutes between each event, and whether a particular activity was light or strenuous, and so on.) Gwendalyn has been meditating between interruptions since this post, at the rate of 7 mana per hour of contemplation.

Ill keep you apprised, just giving people an opportunity to act/plot/plan before the next beating comes along :). Each of your sense headings take a minute and your engaged in light activity just staying on the raft.
Aha! That's where I got the 7 from! Phew, not just a fig newton of my imagination.
Nice having a med rate higher than ones mana pool, like before KEI had a level cap, or being a filthy twink with a fungi tunic.
