Travel plans:

Thursday and Friday I will be traveling, and though I will try to post, it might be tough at times.

After Friday I should be good for most days until early January.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

I could browse every other site but Paizo's yesterday. I tried from about 7 pm last night to 5 am this morning (with a break for sleep). All I got was an error page about how the server was taking too long respond. I couldn't think how else to let you know, so I wrote a message on Revery's Google doc.

ETA: Ah, not just me. Something to do with their ISP.

No worries, none of us could log in.

I'll post on the 'morrow...unless the world ends after midnight, at which point you're all expected to post every day even during a zombie apocalypse!

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Russ posted.

I replied.

He edited his first post rather than creating a new post in response to what I said (damned tentacle suckers).

I know it's confusing, but try rapping yourself in the skull a few times with a frying pan and it should all make sense.

p.s. Ho ho ho, merry almost day_where_presents_are_mandatory_or_something_009!

p.p.s. If an EverQuest evils campaign (alluded to in my posts) went live...would there be interest? This would be a second campaign running side by each with my campaign (yang to our goodly yin?), though of course much darker, in the same world/same time. I am hoping that either Russ or his brother would run it. I'm in of course, but I'd get to actually be a player~ If you think I'm evil as a DM, imagine me as a nefarious Dark Elf Necromancer : )

That is unless one of you two wish to run it?

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

FWIW, by the time I wrote my post last night, the site was down. (Fortunately I wrote it in WordPad, and anyway I use Lazarus.) It stayed down long enough for me to get bored and go to bed, but I did try.

As for an evil campaign, I would be interested in playing but not running. I can't remember the last time I played evil. It might be a nice change from my usual heroic fare.

Russ fired me an e-mail to the same effect. Mike might have been eaten by a rabid big gnashy teeth elf or something, not sure.

I asked, on another part of the boards, if this recent spattering of board issues was an anomaly and was assured it is. So I guess we ride it out and hope that a killer shark doesn't knock us off of our raft.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Training within the confines of your home city (can be your place of birth, or where you've grown up if that's different than your birth place) is free. Items are sold at book value and you have access to more as well. Those that choose to travel will do so at a premium.

Unless someone is against the idea of their characters regrouping at home:
- Please add 1 year to your character's age.
- In character please decide where you will meet.
- Write up a synopsis of what you were up to over the space of that year and post it as soon as it is done.
- Take 1650 gold pieces to spend how you wish. Your synopsis should explain how you came by the money.

If a year seems like a long time, keep in mind that it takes months to travel long distances in this world.

p.s. Mike, when you get a chance, do you mind checking over the cleric?

Merry Christmas everyone, or whichever holiday floats your boat.

Sorry I've been slow posting. Holiday madness and all that...

Oh, and Revery will meet up with the others - he's just a bit reluctant to commit up front..

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Nogglegrop needs:

An age
Current HP
A weapon, or at least unarmed strike
Clothing?
Descriptive text: background and personality
What is Mystic Capacity? His first level feat?

After a year at home, he will likely have some equipment...

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

* Peering into the future, looks to me like it would counter-productive to multi-class, even without an XP penalty (like as a Warrior). Too many goodies to gain as a Shaman.

* Gwendalyn knows four spells, but doesn't have a spellbook any more. So, right up-front she needs to spend 400 gp just to scribe those spells into a blank one. Yes?

* Might be worth it to buy a couple of 2nd-level scrolls and the materials to scribe them, I'm thinking.

* Still need to figure out how she came by the money, but there are lots of ways for someone of her talents. Simplest explanation: saving up for a tailor's kit, then making clothes from hides until she can afford a medicine pouch, then selling potions until she has everything that she needs for the trip to <wherever we're meeting>.

EverQuest has a bit of a hate on for multiclassing outside of the multiclasses they have offered (paladin, shadowknight, beastlord, bard, ranger).

Gwendalyn wrote:

As long as you wend your way back to your homeland you can grab your old spellbook, complete with its 4 starting spells, and not need to pay a piece of gold.

Gwendalyn wrote:

You are welcome to purchase any spells up to level 5 without issue as long as you can afford them. After that they will get a bit sparser.

The trip back to the others will not cost anyone anything, since it's more of a plot device.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Spellcraft to learn Endure Cold vs. DC 16: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Well, bugger

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Profile tentatively updated with purchases. (Everyone is welcome to check it for issues, whether arithmetical, strategical, or RP.) I work the rest of this week, but I'll try to write up the next/last year of activity ASAP.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

For those that are stuck to work out how they got such a windfall, you could retrieve your lost items when you get back home, or get a family heirloom that is worth some coin.

Working in a trade doesn't pay very well, unless that trade is mercenary work, assassination, or theft.

p.s. We won't be playing out your adventurers during that year, more just reading your synopsis, so it's not the time to foray out into the world. We're all learning Norrath together here :)

p.p.s. Get out of the firepot room fast, so I'm not forced to send you back to char gen.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery will likely just sell his family home. Is 1650 reasonable for that, or for part of it (assuming some debts to be paid back, for instance)?

A few questions about spells...

Do we need to do all the rolls for writing them into spellbooks? I will need to review those rules. Are all listed spells equally available?

What about buying potions and scrolls? Are they available, and for how much?

Works for me.

Revery wrote:

There are no rolls to translate spells unless you are trying to do so from an unknown scroll or spellbook. Afterward you need to study the spell for a day and do a spellcraft roll (DC 15+ spell level) to add it to your book. Adding it takes 1 hour per spell level and uses up 100gp per spell level in special materials and inks. It might seem unwieldy, but this is all that gives the non-casters a chance, since spells are crazy powerful.

Spells are equally available up to level 5 as long as you are at a major city in your homeland (read: faction matters for availability and sale price).

You can buy them from: arcane merchant, temple, guild, magic shoppes, other caster's spellbooks, scrolls, et cetera.

Base Spell Cost: Spell Level x Spell Level x 25gp.

Potions require you to find a shaman (or speak to the one in the group) and they are surprisingly expensive (lowest one is 150gp for a single potion).

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

If none of us have been to Freeport before, then I'm going to have to re-write Gwen's background, and the story of how she became a slave.

Also, once again got tired of waiting for the site to come back up and went to bed, yada yada. I assume that a major new site feature (like the RPG Superstar round 1 voting) probably needs some debugging, but it's getting annoying.

Gwendalyn wrote:

I had hoped that everyone would be familiar with only their city, and basically clueless about everything else so we could explore together.

There's no need to change your background, your memories were fuzzy after the abduction, so it's possible you were in Freeport, but have forgotten all but the lingering feeling that you've been to this place before.

I asked about the site issues in a different thread. Here's the: LINK

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

That was all rather prosaic, I suppose; but my muse refused to give me a more-interesting inspiration for the year's synopsis.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

I've been working on mine, and have not had too much inspiration either. If will likely be done soon, but don't expect anything grand...

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

As long as the year off gives the choice to adventure further, rather than feeling sucked in, I'm happy.

Find thy muse!

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

My muse has arrived! in the form of a hardcover book. I got the Game Master's Guide as a belated Christmas present, so I finally know how the trade skills work. I'm just using it as fluff in this case, but still. That's what I needed. 8)

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Upkeep: You just pay one cost for the whole month, rather than us needing to have constant conversations about what food and lodging costs.

Congrats!

No clue if I plan to be consistent with anything that book says though :)

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Oh sure, but now you only have to say how your crafting is different, not explain the whole thing (unless you scrap it all). ;)

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Does Revery have a spellbook at home with his existing spells in it? If not, can he write the ones he has in is head already, or does he have to buy them again?

Oh oh! I can answer that one!

ETA: Oh silly me. I failed to add the 1st-level Endure Cold scroll to Gwen's spellbook, but it looks like I don't actually have to wait to learn the 2nd-level ones. (She just can't prepare them yet.) So. Rolls in alpha order!

Spellcraft vs. DC 17 (Fleeting Fury): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Spellcraft vs. DC 17 (Frost Rift): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Godsdammit.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

EVIL CAMPAIGN

The DM is locked in, but I will take the reins in the interim to give him a chance to get his ducks in a row and read the rulebooks to get familiarized with the system.

We will use The Mead Hall discussion thread for both games.

The Gameplay thread for the evil campaign is located here: LINK

Same character generation as previously:
- Level 1
- 27 point buy
- Maximum hit points
- You'll start naked in the hold of the other slave ship

First things first we will want to lock in what everyone is playing evil-wise. It is a pain to run a mix of goodly and evil races in the same group, so try to have an evil bias to your decision (Hello there Mr. Iksar or Ogre or Troll, please stop eating my face!). Once you have a race you like toss out your idea of class.

I am playing a Dark Elf Necromancer named Loki as was alluded to in my game. I have a yin yang plan going with the two groups.

Once you have a name/concept the please dot the in-game thread from the alias you've made for the game.

p.s. We are sans the other guy, who is into some pretty uncomfortable fun game-wise (*shudder*), but I am imagining a group of people that will go as far as needed to get what they want. I do not envision long prolonged scenes of ripping children's fingers off for fun, or any rape scenes. Hope that's cool with all : )

Whoops, kind of skimmed your post and missed the part about dotting from the alias. Haven't made it yet, but I've been thinking of a shadow knight ever since you proposed the evil game. Leaning iksar and have to figure out a name still. I know that there's some overlap with necromancers, but like I said earlier about shamans and beastlords, I think that some theme and synergy in a group can be a good thing.

Oh and yeah, playing a selfish and ruthless character sounds like a nice change of pace, but let's please not go into squick territory. Granted, an iksar shadow knight could do some pretty terrible things; but I was planning on giving a synopsis (if necessary), not reveling in the horror.

ETA: Zaruksis (a work in progress)

I think that I'll start Zaruksis out with a monk level. A dip there seems to be an exception to the rule that EQ hates multiclassing.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

For Revery (upkeep):

upkeep:

2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 9) + 20 = 30

As for the evil campaign, I'm all for it, but I need some time to get my character ready. I'm still away from home and it's hard to find time to work on gaming stuff at the moment.

I was hoping to play Revery's sister, until I saw the Evil Races requirement. That's fine.

Once you have an iksar (hi there!) in the party, I don't see how any other race would be any more difficult to accommodate.

Sounds like a fun mix of classes. It will be a juggling act indeed since the two classes represent a need for nearly every attribute (think if you want to be the party's "face" you will need all 6 attributes).

So we are on the same page, the dip into monk gives you dual wield for unarmed strikes and 1HB weapons, but not for weapons you gained access to in your SK training.

The evil races requirement is now lifted. Play whatever race you wish, as long as it has an evil bent.

CHARACTER GENERATION

  • Use the point buy from page 26 of the EverQust Player's Handbook (I hear that 4Shared had a .pdf copy online, though I do not condone such activities).
  • The EverQuest Player's Handbook is the only book you need for this game unless you are a pet class and then you will need to acquire the web enhancement: Monster of Norrath Pets and Warders.
  • Allocate the 27 point buy with an expectation of a traditional mixture of combat, social and roleplaying.
  • Take maximum hit points at every level.

CHARACTER SHEETS

  • We will be using Myth-Weavers (http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumhome.php) to host everyone's character sheets online.
  • Just sign in, click on "Sheets" and click "New Sheet". There's a drop down menu, which you'll set to "D&D 3.5e", name the character and click "Create."
  • Save often.
  • Here's one of my characters using that sheet as an example: CHARACTER LINK

ERRATA

  • I use group initiative to speed up combats.
  • Please keep OOC talk to the Discussion Thread ("The Mead Hall") as much as possible.
  • For those that played the online game: this will be a bit of a different energy. Suffice to say that it's a long run to a zone wall, since there aren't any :)

Teir'Dal Necromancer

Fredik has a wonderful idea that would make both DM/Guide's job much easier and faster. Posting this from my evil character's profile, so you can see what I am talking about.

In both games please do this after you have made a profile for your evil character:

  • Click on your name at the top of the boards (Welcome, <insert your board name here>!).
  • Click on the "alias" tab.
  • Click on the name of your alias character.
  • Click "Edit My Profile" on the right side of the page.
  • Put your character's full name into the "Full Name" box.
  • In the "Race" box put the following one that lines up with your character:
    For Mike:
    [REMOVEurl=http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=463903]Revery (Erudite Enchanter)
    For Russ:
    [REMOVEurl=http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=464604]Sajeek (Vah Shir Beastlord)
    For Fredrik:
    [REMOVEurl=http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=466261]Gwendalyn (Barbarian Shaman)
  • Erase the "REMOVE" I added in there to make the code viable, and don't include the For <your name>.
  • Click "Save Changes".
  • Repeat this step for your evil character.
  • The goal is to keep this as immersive as possible (part of the reason for bracketing things, using spoilers for other thing, and keeping OOC to the discussion thread), so please just keep the race box to race and class only.

If you have any troubles please post it here and we will help out.

Total aside: If we could update the campaign google document for the evil campaign as well that would be muchly appreciated. It might sound like twice the work, but there will be a fair amount of overlap.

Oh, well in that case, never mind. Might as well go straight SK then. :p

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Was starting to wonder if we were going to start a dark siblings campaign with Revery's sister and maybe dark Tudan (barbarian are neutral, so it's not that big a stretch) or something. Sajeek ate his siblings, so that makes it a bit awkward unless he can talk Loki into raising them and using them as pets.

p.s. If it feels a tad overwhelming, with all the directions you could possibly go in the game right now, that's EverQuest. So much in the way of choice. You're welcome to chase all, none, or some of what I've offered....or go in search of other stuff to do.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

FWIW, Gwendalyn is only one step removed from her deities, since the Tribunal is ON. (I paid very close attention to this when I made her.) She just combines her church's focus on justice with a natural empathy -- and yes, she doesn't respect her people's tendency to ignore both.

Exactly, as a shaman you have joined the ranks of the spiritual leaders of your people, but your people are not the most orderly of lots, which makes it a constant struggle. You are closer to the worshippers, but they tend to be dispassionate about things that matter to you in terms of relieving suffering in the world.

One day, when you run Halas, everything will be different :)

Iksar Shadow Knight

You're welcome. ;) Zaruksis is almost done, except for a feat, description and background. (I finally realize that I could just grab a Large club if I want a two-handed weapon, and one character is past that while the other isn't there yet.) I also want to try and work in some chronicling of the light party's adventures when I can. So, most of what's left to do is fluffy, and I want to see the composition of the dark party before choosing a feat.

Cthulhu-Spawn DM/crazy person

Sajeek will be sticking with middle class 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 2) + 20 = 31gp

And for the evils, I'm thinking an Iksar monk at the moment

Yeah, we'll have enough death magic since there's 3 sort of necromancer-types in the group.

I've asked Jeremy (AKA the guy that's running the evil campaign) to run the ogre that's been mentioned in the game.
