Gear for a 7th lvl Paladin besides the obvious?

Advice

Friend's paladin leveled up and needs some gear. Besides the normal stuff (armor, weapon, belt, ring & cloak) are there any good lower level paladin items he should consider?

Liberty's Edge

pearl of power. Wait what? really I use one now and then as well as a wand of Lesser Restoration and a wand of bless weapon. I just recently got a wand of divine grace but I tend not to find the time to use it yet.

I know most people don't look at Paladin and see spell caster, but in my party I am also the closest thing we have to a cleric.

That is kinda his problem. A wand of lesser restore would be good. He already has a clw wand. Anything else?

Sczarni

Well why don't you tell us what "the obvious" is so we can help you. And also what kind of build are you playing with? Are you a Divine Hunter? Do you have a mount? etc. etc.

Phylactery of faithfulness? (Avoids the "is this evil?" nonsense)

The obvious is just that: +1 weapon, armor, ring, cloak. +2 str item.

He's a two handed sword user. No particular build per se...the player just takes things that he thinks are interesting at the time. He's got pow attack and furious focus, extra channel and weapon focus. Basic human. Basic paladin.

Shadow Lodge

Phylactery of Positive Channeling. Especially since he's already got Extra Channel.

You have access to 2nd level spells at this point so a couple of scrolls never hurt. Mostly for spells that may come in handy but you don't want to memorize. Aura of Greater Courage, Undetectable Alignment, and Zone of Truth come to mind right off hand. To the wands add Endure Elements if you are in an area with extreme weather. Assuming you have a Handy Haversack don't forget the mundane items as well. Rope, various kits and bundles of extra ammunition for your ranged weapon. If you don't have a Handy Haversack then add that to the list ASAP.

Silver Smite Bracers are 16k, but well worth it.. Charisma headband over the phylactery imo.. more loh/more plus to saves/hit/ac while smiting.. beats out +2d6channel i think, ntm what pally uses channels? Swift Loh is the way to go.. he should went oath of vengeance imo..

Boots of Striding and Springing. As the person who usually has to get close to BBEG and smash them, getting there faster saves the day.

Cracked purple Ioun stone, and a bunch of scrolls of Shield. 2K

Have caster cast Shield into Ioun stone. Cast Shield from Ioun stone, get +4 AC since you're a two-handed weapon user, and immunity to magic missiles.

You probably want the Amulet of Natural Armor to complete out the Boring Six. It's more useful than the ring, because it adds to your AC all the time, while the Ring stops adding to your AC when you smite.

Comfort on the armor.

Cha Circlet is better than the Phylactery of Positive Energy in nearly every way. It's more useful than the STR belt for a Paladin.

Potions of Blur are 300 GP each and are great for reducing damage.

I am personally a fan of +1/Lesser Fortification on armor. Crits happen. This, plus Potion of Blur before big fights, is handy as all heck.

What kind of armor? Would it benefit him to make it mithril and add the Comfort enhancement?

What kind of weapon? Is it Silver? Adamantine? Cold Iron? These are all things he should be looking into for DR. He should also be carrying around a Bludgeoning weapon as well for those pesky Skeletons.

There's these items to look at

Silver smite bracelet (+4 effective level for smite evil. From APG) - 16000gp (craft for 8000)

Bracers of the avenging knight (+4 effective level to damage for smite abilities. From UE.) - 11500gp (craft for 5750)

Both will give +4 to damage, but Silver smite bracelet will also give you 1-2 extra uses of Smite Evil depending on your level.

Should have a +2 weapon by now. That needs to be a priority.

I'd place multiple materials to bypass DR higher than adding that additional +1 to hit.

But he would get those if he manages to get the enchant to +3. Depending on the campaign and the enemies you find, bypassing materials DR can wait till later

Besides, Smite Evil bypasses DR
