Welcome to a new 5 star GM!

Pathfinder Society® General Discussion

Paizo Employee ***** Pathfinder Society Campaign Coordinator

I wanted to take a minute to welcome and congratulate the newest five star GM, Wes Nicholson. He is the second five star GM from Australia and the third outside of the U.S.

Some of the recommendations for Wes to be promoted to his fifth star include the following:

"Wes is a selfless organiser who dedicates a massive amount of his time and energy to ensuring all players get the best experience out of PFS. On the many occassions that I have played in games he has run, he has made them fun and colourful with his GM style. On the rare occassion I've seen him actually play, he has been just as much fun to have on your table. Congratulations Wes."

"I'd like to recommend Wes Nicholson as a gamemaster. In running PFS scenarios, he is knowledgeable, up to date, scrupulously fair and very funny. He's tireless in organising, preparing and running games, without regard to his own time, to support and build the local PFS community and other GMs, providing literally carloads of game materials, printouts and scale maps."

"I have known Wes for the last ten years and in that time I have seen him run countless games days and cons. He is always willing to help new players and introduce them to this great hobby. He has helped develop so many new friendships in this university and government town through this hobby. Without his efforts, PFS in Canberra would be a lot smaller and we would all be poorer for it. A million thanks for all the effort and sacrifice you have made Wes."

"Wes has been a pillar of the Canberra roleplaying community for as long as I can remember. In fact it is due to his organisation of games days and conventions that we have the community we do today."

"I have only been playing Pathfinder for a year. However, in that time I have seen how dedicated Wes is to supporting all of the players in Canberra. Despite a limited number of regular GMs (especially earlier this year), Wes has always strived to provide a game for interested players. On a number of occasions Wes has stepped in to GM when extra players have turned up or the scheduled GM was unable to run. On a personal note, Wes has encouraged my first steps as a GM and I frequently request his assistance with rules interpretation when I am unsure. I would very much like for Wes to be awarded his fifth GM star, as I believe it reflects the level of support he gives to his players and his depth of experience as a GM."

Welcome aboard Wes!

I thought I belonged to FCBG this weekend. Must have got that wrong somewhere :)

And, did we need a reason to have drinks? OK then, I guess that works

Wow. All those nice things people posted to Mike about me. Thanks everyone.
It's nice to get that 5th star, but really I do this cos it's FUN.
Organising an event can be a bit rough at times, but if the end result is happy players then it's all worth it.
And, GMing is the best kept secret in organised play. GMs get to run multiple characters every time, players just get one. Maybe two if they have a companion.

You're time shared. I have you for 8 hours on Friday, 12 on Saturday, and another 8 on Sunday!

Remind me, Wes, did I ever kill your Paladin? (Trying to stay up to date on my 5-star death checklist)

Nope. You got him unconscious but that was it.

I'm guessing my secret isn't the same one as Purple FCBG's, but iirc you haven't killed her off yet either :)

Congrats Wes. I look forward to meeting you this weekend. :)

I've got the feeling I actually met you in person at Gencon. One of the desk girls was commenting on Tim Tam's with someone that I suspect was you while I logged entries.

If Wes can survive Drop Bears, he can handle Yetis.

Nice one!

A truely fine GM one of the best I have had a chance to play with. He is certainly the GM with the most frequent flyer miles.

He ran the 3rd part of the Eyes of Ten for us in Connecticut last year a real treat

Great Job Wes!!!

Cheliax ****

Way to go! Keep up the good work.

You know I looked at those suspicious Tim Tams but didn't have one...

I guess this will have to be rectified this weekend. :P

Due to the continuing website issues from yesterday, I can't post under my account so I'm using a friend's. This is Doug Miles writing.

I first met Wes in 2010 at the Origins Game Fair. He was one of my volunteer GMs for Pathfinder Society. It was a memorable time, the beginning of what I like to call "The Brat Pack". I met Neil Shackleton, Thea Peters, Derek Boobyer and Bob Jonquet for the first time. Along with Kyle Baird and others, we rocked that convention. The thing that struck me about Wes was how unflappable he was. We had far more players show than there were tables or GMs to handle. On top of that, Wes was an Open Classic GM which meant he was on-call to run whatever scenario a collection of players were all eligible to play. That was over 50 possible scenarios. Wes took everything in stride. Whenever I asked him (feeling guilty) if he was OK running a scenario cold he just looked at me as if to say "Hand it to me and stop fretting out, it's unbecoming". His wry sense of humor kept everyone in good spirits and his capability to handle anything I threw at him was a load off my mind. Every night after the slots were over we'd report to the garden bar and unwind. It is one of my happiest memories of my PFS career.

I'm proud to stand next to Wes. He goes back a long ways in the RPGA and we are lucky to have him aboard Pathfinder Society. I don't think any other volunteer can claim to have traveled as far as Wes has, for as many years as he has. It seems like everyone at conventions in the States knows him. Congratulations Wes! I have just one question for you, something we all need to know in fact: What kind of beer do your prefer to drink?

Andoran ***** Venture-Lieutenant, California—Fresno aka Sarta

Congrats Wes! Well deserved!

Well done sir! Sounds like you have made a lot of people very happy.

Usually I prefer it to be cold. Except in the UK of course.

More seriously, the darker the better. But in the end, if I'm with a bunch of good people like oh, 99% of the Pathfinder folk I've met, I'll drink whatever. Even hard lemonade, as long as it's spiked with vodka

Btw, we missed you at UCon.

And Steve, I way more than had fun at UCon. Everyone who can get there should go next year. Just sayin'...
