*facepalm*

of course

My anxiety undermines my inner geek. :)

I'm getting notes ready for tomorrow's session; it looks to be a fun break from dungeon crawling in Rappan Athuk.

While reading through some stand-alone encounters, me thinks there has been an error in one of the stat blocks. Dragoons (Page 353) are listed as using rapiers that deal 1d8+1 18-20/x20 instead of 1d6+1 18-20/x2.

The easiest fix would be to drop the die to a d6 or just change the weapon to a long sword with a 19-20/x2 multiplier.

I went to FGG website, and I can't purchase any Razor Coast stuff from there either . . . it keeps referring me to the kickstarter that has long expired, despite the little tag beneath all the Razor Coast products saying "Buy It".

Will it be a while before non-kickstarter folk will be able to buy this stuff? If so, do we have a specific date?

I'm so confuzzled! I want to give my money away, but you people won't let me!!!!!

;)

I think I am still on page 7! Good catch, with them having weapon focus (rapier) probably easier to drop the damage otherwise you need to change that also but that is a choice I guess.

Great job Lou! Although I do agree that the resolution could have been better on the maps for the pdfs.

It's supposed to be a longsword. The Dragoon in the appendix should be correct. *runs off in shame to begin long errata document - sigh*

Sovereign Court Contributor

Thnks Brvheart. I'm talking to FGG about the PDFs. No promises 'cause I don't know what that tricky Frog God is planning for sure...

The appendix is, sadly, wrong for the dragoons (that's the first place I checked when I noticed the error on a earlier page). The dragoon sergeant uses a long sword, correctly, but the regular dragoons do not. Pretty much everywhere I look that has the typo listed (page 146, page 152, among others).

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 8

I was happy to see my Raging Swan mate, David Posener, as a special guest developer. He has quite the twisted mind (in a good way)!

Also, I hope backers take the time to check out Zombie Sky's Tattlebox pirate issue that came with it. There are loads of cool articles, including one by the pirate queen herself, Christina Stiles (and some aquatic undead variants as well as haunted island I wrote that are easy to drop in).

Can't wait to get my hook hands on the physical copy!

Ack! I was thinking of the sergeant. I think the typo is the rapier damage. Grrrr. Let me check it out, and please post anything else. I'll add it to an errata sheet.

Just skimmed so far but... this is looking very tasty.

Looking forward to Heart of the Razor.

And being able to buy Fire As She bears.

Only the kickstarter supporters have received their PDFs, non supporters will have to wait. If it is like all other KS that Frog God Games have done a week or three after they have shipped all the physical rewards you will see Razor Coast available on their site, followed by NobleKnight and, eventually I hope, here. As to when the books ship, i have no idea - the kickstarter estimate is May but I have no idea if that holds good.

Thank you, friend, for giving me something to go off from! This stuff looks fantastic, and I'd love to uses it. My hopes are to get the hardcovers of both Razor Coast and Heart of the Razor Coast to contribute to my S&S campaign, which will also have a third storyline involving Zon-Kuthon which I'm working on myself. As it will be a couple years before this becomes a reality, I can wait a month or two to get my hands on this!

Again, thanks much for the reply. It's much appreciated!

The Razor looks very nice so far. Been browsing the PDFs on and off throughout the weekend. It's pretty much everything that was promised, in terms of content, delivered with care and quality, which is commendable.

This thing is gonna be rife with errata, I think, and I hope someone does a thorough pass on the PDF before it goes to the printer.

Some of the crunch may have balance issues, but the rules variants I've read seem at least internally consistent and fun to use, and I will take fun over balanced any day.

The criticism of the spotty image resolution is definitely valid. Some maps are hard to read when magnified. I've browsed the PDFs on an Apple tablet via Dropbox thus far, for the record.

The material stays on message. It is swashbuckling and derring do and adventure and blood and gore. It does not deviate from that end goal. I expect to get a lot of value out of this book in the long term.

First session in and my PCs are doing work. I have a group of 5 using 15 point buy, and they had 7.5k of gold to spend from creation. Two of them have full levels animal companions. After convincing Garreg to tell them about the deal, and enlisting the help of the dragoons, they took on the encounter with only a few hiccups. Only a couple pushers and two smugglers escaped with their lives. Damn good work for a couple level 5s.

The thing I noticed here is the CR is off for this encounter (I believe). It is listed as a CR9 encounter (6400 exp), but there are 10 CR3s (the pushers) and 7 CR5s (the smugglers and the enforcers) in the whole thing. This come out to 19200 total exp to be earned (exactly a CR12 encounter) if the party managed to eliminate most, or the whole thing. I would probably drop it to a CR 10-11 depending on the level of the party, and their numbers, but it is not a CR9. If the dragoon's hadn't been there to soak up a few hits, they would surely have been swarmed.

I think I am going to wait for the hard copy and the rest of the books to start it. I have a S&S campaign running to get some characters up to level though. The more I read the more I like this. A lot of work was put into this I can tell. I am glad I hace an accounting background though with all the worksheets and planning sheets! That does bring up an interesting question as to starting gold, 7500 sounds about right. what do others think?

Is it possible to use spoiler tags in this thread, please ?

It is not self-evident Razor Coast's GM's eyes only and some posters (and Kickstarter contributors) will be players rather than GMs (at first). I am such an unworthy wretch BTW

I prefer to keep the surprise intact ;-)

Liberty's Edge

Ahm... is the book already on its way, or should I've it already in my mail?!

The PDFs have been made available to everyone who pledged enough to get a PDF. I assume (yes, I know what they say about assumptions) that this means the book will be going to print soon'ish.

In other words, no you shouldn't have it in your mail yet.

Will download when I get home from work, but will have to wait on the S&W version to be converted. Not sure which I'm more excited about!

Dude. Wow. Thank you. I'm so glad you like it.

It's perfect for my GMing style (most of nick's stuff is). Soo...when are you guys going to work on Ebon Shroud? There is a certain female NPC from that that I dearly want to see done justice...;) Oh, and i found it interesting that Mr.H looks different in the current version of RC.

Sovereign Court Contributor

Yeah. I didn't like the art on Mr. H and Eric Lofgren was available, so...

Question, are we pre-orderers supposed to get the PDF too? I preordered RC back in the day and pledged some to get other stuff but haven't gotten the actual RC PDF on my page yet...

Louis Agresta wrote:

Dang thing got so huge I couldn't do it on posterboard anymore. Shifted over to Xmind (free mind-mapping software), and that seems to be doing the trick.

Sorry 'bout the delay on that last piece, folks. Shouldn't be long now. :(

Lou, is this plot web map included in the main book, or is it a separate download? I ask mainly because I downloaded my books at about 4:25pm last Friday, and you posted this at 4:28pm... so now I'm wondering if I need to grab an updated PDF anywhere. =b

Louis Agresta wrote:

I think the product could be made even better with internal PDF linking, if at all possible, primarily due to the sandboxy structure.

Hey guys--pdfs will be up for sale soon. The actual books grew a bit--so the printer will be delayed a few weeks. Bear with us, I decided to keep the extra 150 pages in the main book and delay delivery a while. Heck, the adventure book came in almost 200% of predicted size. Methinks you guys are going to be very happy with this.

I should have an estimated ship to me date by the end of the week.

Paizo will have them later (after we fulfill the Kickstarter), and they won't go up for sale on my site until they arrive (dead tree books that is).

Same situation here. I believe Blonde Frog said she was working on this.

What would a FGG book be if it weren't at least 500 pages lately? Anyway, I am 50 or so pages in and have to say that so far this is about the best I have ever seen! The intrigue, the intertwined plots, different plot lines for NPC's this is good stuff!!! My players are so used to RA I am not sure what they are going to do with themselves now that they are actually going to have to role play. I think you guys did a great job intermixing a little gun powder rules with swordplay. It is a good mix for us that are not used to having guns in our campaigns. It gives good flavor, but doesn't take over the game.

Do we have an ETA of when the HeroLab files will be ready or is it still too soon to ask? Sorry, you have me chomping at the bit here!

It is a separate image. I expect it to be released as part of the handouts PDF, but I was also planning on making it available in Xmind format -- the free mindmapping software I'm using to do the task.

It's not yet finished by I expect to finish up soon.

Regarding the PDF, Art resolutions, Maps, etc. This will be fixed. We need to re-compress the images differently. Working on that now. Rest assure the print version does NOT look like this.

As far as pre-orders, I am trying to get them all out this week.

As far as add ons like Fire As She Bears, Heart of the Razor, etc, again, trying to get them out this week.

As far as invoices, they should be coming soon as well. Finishing up all those extreme cases and weird orders that have thrown off the main programing that pulls in the surveys.

The PDFs will be sold everywhere eventually. We have to fulfill our backers and pre-orders first.

Lou, as for the Errata, if you can get the changes to Layout pronto so she can get to me, then I can get them to the printers before it all prints.

HeroLab files will still be a little bit. And don't even ask about D20Pro :p

You Frogs Rock! You rock hard! Also, you make really pretty books.

It will be much easier to run when the Herolab files are out, but most likely they will be out before I get a chance to run this.

okay I sent out the add ons and pre-orders. Check your spam/junk box for an email if it isn't in your inbox. I'm off to bed now :)

Got it! Downloading now!!

EDIT: for the endless teeth of Dajobas, 546 pages, this tome is INSANE!!

Sovereign Court

Just scrolling through Heart of the Razor.

Looks very good, although

Spoiler:
Two adventures where you have to flee from the sinking/destroyed adventure location at the end? Seems a bit much.

The Exchange

All sorted and downloaded. Thanks for getting these all out. Started to read through Razor Coast and making plans for starting to run it later in the year.

brvheart wrote:

One I'm less tempted to buy? Honestly, I've come to trust FGG to produce massive books. That's what I'm looking for. I didn't particularly need or want RC, but when this started looking like it was going to get big, I started clearing a space on my shelf for it.

Just picked up the add-on email for Fire as She Bears. Link and download all went like clockwork. Not sure when I'll ever get to read it though, that makes 800+ pages of content downloaded this week :) Very impressed by what I've read so far.

GeraintElberion wrote:

The assumption is you won't necessary run them all, but even then. Lots of stuff sinks in Razor Coast. :)

The Exchange

Haha Fire as She Bears passes the test of can I build the HMS Victory in the rules (Though I had to fudge that each gun represented 1 each side even on a 2* boat layout.)

The naval encounters table seems a little off though the hull slots arn't really enough to fit the quoted gun numbers even with the doubleing unless their all the smallest guns available.

Nitpicking on the abstraction to realism level aside looks like it'll do a good job of making for interesting naval battles in game.

Sovereign Court Contributor

Cool! I'm glad you like it!

Question: refresh me please. How many decks does the HMS Victory have in real life and how long was she?

Dark Archive

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

She was 226 ft. long with 8 decks according to the Royal Navy National Museum site.

Dark Archive

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

FYI I believe she was refered to as a 3 decker because she had 3 gun decks.

The Exchange

the gun decks were 186ft long but yeah 226ft total length, 50ft beam, 3 gundecks with another 12 guns in the fore and aft castles. Depth of hold was 21ft with a draught of 28ft. I think I put the build in at 26 hull sections of which 18 had gun deck space tripled up as triple deck, with the below water line stuff abstracted though I suppose if you wanted to get the hit points closer to surviving her own broadside you'd need those extra 22 hull portions.

Eight decks includes foc'sle, poop deck and quarterdeck as individual decks, the others being the hold, orlop deck and 3 gun decks.

Victory's dimensions are on wikipedia

Still astounds me how many cannons a single ship of the line carries. Especially when you compare it to a land battle of the same era.

I have not had a chance to read the whole thing but i have looked over it and so far i really like the book. Especially the part early on about the NPC's and how they go if the PC's don't intervene when they have a chance. I loved that, all and all I am very happy it. My only real complaint was the art and map resolutions but since that is due to be fixed that great. Looking forward to the fixed PDF and more importantly the book. :)

In reading this more and more I think of Errol Flynn's old movies. It is filled with romance, intrigue and swordplay. I think an Errol Flynn type character would be perfect for this campaign!

Sovereign Court Contributor

I had Rafael Sabatini in mind when editing and writing, for sure! Particularly Scaramouche, which contains my favorite opening line of nearly any novel:

"He was born with the gift of laughter and the sense that the world was mad, and that was all his patrimony..."

Many of the Errol Flynn movies were based on Sabatini novels. Really glad that came through. Of course we added lots of horror and gore. >:)
