Dwarf Archer Knowledge master? (Skull & Shackles)

Advice

All,

I have been kicking around lots of different character ideas for a Skull & Shackles game. Forgive me if this is like my 5th post this week asking about character builds. :)

Anyway, I have this concept in my head of a lightly armored archer who is a dwarven lass who has journeyed far and wide and so she knows lots of stuff. I want to take Breadth of Experience for flavor, and I want her to have all knowledge skills as class skills and I want her to be an archer.

So, I was thinking Inquisitor with the Knowledge domain. I was also thinking maybe a bard archer. Ranger would be ideal for feats tho, with maybe a 1 level dip in something to get knowledge skills as class skills. I would also consider a Cleric of both Knowledge and Animal domains if there are any, for an animal companion. I guess i could also go with an Inquisitor with the Animal domain (and boon companion) & take a one level dip to pick up knowledge skills. I could even be an archer bard, but I think I would get killed big time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Cleric with the Knowledge Domain and the Guided Hand feat.

Is there a way todo combat manuevers at range (besides the archer achetype)? because a lore warden could work.

Grand Lodge

Guided Hand Gods that work with this:

Slandrais-ShortBow-NE

Malthus-Light Crossbow-LE

Cixyron-Musket-NE

I guess I forgot to mention that this dwarven lass will be either NG or CG in alignment.

So, no straight neutral?

If you're not stuck on alignment Dwarves make great Zen Archers. They have bonuses/penalties to all the right ability scores.

Archery is feat intensive for all other classes besides the Zen Archer (the Zen archer gets class abilities that replicate or exceed many of the standard archery feats for free. In fact it's not until level 19 or 20 that the Fighter finally surpasses the Zen archer in terms of total feats - and I can't recall off the top of my head if that account sofr the ZAM class abilities).

You won't need Guided Hand as you will already have Zen Archery from about level 3 I think.

If it was my build starting stats would look something like this;

STR: 14
DEX: 14
CON: 14 (12 +2 Racial)
INT: 12
WIS: 18 (16 +2 Racial)
CHA: 5 (7 -2 Racial)

A bit min/maxy but perfect for the job (I can't picture a dwarf that isn't a surly bastard so just play up the grumpiness to play up that shockingly bad Charisma).

You will be more then capable in combat and with 5 skills/level you can actually be useful out of combat as well.

EDIT: Stats assume 20 point buy.

No, the character should definitely be NG or CG. Also, I dont like creepy/evil gods anyway. :)

What about 1 level of Lore Warden, to get the knowldege and int skills, plus a bonus feat and +1 BaB? That way I could take Breadth of Experience and Point Blank Shot. From there, I would go all Inquisitor with the Feather Domain, which would eventually give an animal companion at lvl - 3. Since I have a 1 level dip, the companion, would be at level -4, which Boon Companion would top off to be exactly my level (+4 to companion level). So basically, precise shot at 3rd, boon companion at 5th. From there I could keep getting archery feats. I would typically rock the Justice judgement for the hit bonus.

I could be originally from Magnimar (sp) which is where Ylimancha is from, so that would fit with the feel of a water/ocean game. Would that work?

Thanks! And yes I will hear out all ideas, but I do have a strong vision of the character which limits what may feel right to me. :) Gracias!

This dwarf lass is friendly, studious, and rigidly non-lawful, so I dont think Zen Archer works.

I just need to make a custom Warmage class that never goes over medium armor, uses a bow, and has all knowledge skills. Maybe drops the spell combat and the spell recall or something so she can get an animal companion. :)

Darwf lore warden /wizard /arcanne archer /eldrith knight??

or the archer magus

archer magus

with a dip in lore warde to obtain all knowledge skills.

Cloistered Cleric of Ylimancha with the Feather Subdomain and the Guided Hand feat meets all you needs.

You could also take the breadth of experience feat at level one, and play whatever you want.

BBT,

Wow. The Cloistered Cleric of Ylimancha with the Feather Domain pretty much is perfect. The reduced spellcasting really hurts, but hey. Its a good fit. I will miss Judgements and Bane tho. :)

I am still listening to ideas though, if people have any more.

Too bad there isnt a good aligned god with both knowledge and animal as domains tho. Then i could have my cake and eat it too. Silly Golarion requirement for Clerics to have a god is silly. :)

Maybe I can convince Sean or James or one of those fine fellows to add an Empyreal Lord for me that is all about knowledge, animals, travel, and giant flying avians. A Varisian Valedictorian Veterinarian Vagabond of Vultures and Velociraptors. Yes, thats the ticket.

To be honest, I'd either make the dwarf bard, or I would make a dwarf ranger, and just take a couple traits to make some more of the knowledges that seem most important class skills, and not worry about the ones that are missed. Put skill points in all the knowledges anyway, and not worry if some of them "only" have +2 instead of +5.

The main hurtle is the fact that you want to be an archer, which is a feat hog style, and you want to take a fluffy feat and you want to be a dwarf which doesn't get a bonus feat... So ranger seems like the best path through that.

One other thought ... What about a simple Ranger (Beastmaster)? If I think of this dwarven lass as any kind of spellcaster at all, I didnt really think of her as a heavy divine caster. So as cool and as quasi intellectual as the cloistered cleric is, I could also just go with a Beastmaster.

In exchange for the loss of one archery feat, but no biggie. I would get full BAB, 2 good saves, and Druid quality on the companion. Since I would be getting a few archery feats, I could still take Breadth of Experience without slowing my progression a ton. Heck, I could take a level of Lore Warden for the feat and Int class skills, and just go ahead and take Boon Companion so that I wont have to wait for level 12 to get a full power companion! In fact, thanks to Beastmaster, at level 13, I could have a level 3 scout creature and a level 13 druid full companion by splitting my beastmaster pet levels to 9 & 3 and then applying Boon Companion to the bigger one.

Hmm. Decisions, decisions!

Wisdom for attack rolls is pretty hard to pass up.

you should just switch to a elven archer unless your dead set on a dwarf then just roll through the tough spots

I think at this point it's just necromancy that we're looking into
