Just popping in to say that I am reading over everyone's submissions, didn't want people to think I disappeared because I wasn't posting.

I figure I'll keep the character submissions open until Saturday night. That'll give the people who are interested but didn't get a chance to crunch out a character enough time to finish up their ideas.

Good to hear.

I'm a little unfamiliar with the concept of this module, and I don't really know where to look to see what it's about, because I'm afraid of spoiling myself.

Is there a player's guide to the AP somewhere that I've missed?

4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 4) - 2 = 11
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 6) - 1 = 17
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 4) - 2 = 11
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 1) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 1) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 5) - 2 = 15

Equivalent of a 26 pt. buy. Nice. Let's see what I can do.

Can I still apply? I was going to express my interest earlier, but procastrination got in the way. That, and trying to find the dice format of this messageboard... While it is lying under my nose. Makes you feel dumber than you are.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 2) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 3) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 5) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 5) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 2) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 4) = 18

For a while I thought that I got the best rolls ever... Then I remembered to drop the lowest. :P

I just went with 20 point buy.

Heroism is about what you do, not what you're born with. :)

Good luck all!

Okay, here's Elaina. Cy is submitting her twin brother, Edvard. Tactically, they from the front line, with Elaina skewering foes with her glaive over Edvard's shoulder, or using her quarterstaff to bet them into submission by her brother's side.

Background:
Elaina and Edvard had grown up in Kassen. The sleepy little village on the northern edge of Nirmathas didn't hold many opportunities for getting into trouble.

It did have some.

At a young age, Elaina, Edvard, and several friends went on a dare to see who would stay the whole night at this spooky place in the woods. Everything seemed fine, the kids grew bolder by the night. On the fifth night, one of the children, a young boy named Jakob, was going to the center of the spooky spot. A clammy, decaying hand shot up and managed to wrap around his ankle. Jakob managed to break free, breaking the thing's hand and fingers in the process. After a moment frozen in terror, they all fled for the village.

Elaina tripped on a gnarled root as the others ran on. The thing was close behind, and all the poor girl could do was cry out in terror. Her brother, Edvard, turned back and knocked the thing to the ground, buying enough time for the twins to escape.

Personality:
Elaina is the more level-headed one, often acting as an anchor to keep her brother from doing things that are too reckless. After the close call in the Fangwood, she has been plagued by nightmares of all manner of undead feasting upon her flesh. Fortunately, these are growing rarer and rarer. She's quiet and comes across as shy to most, at least until they try and talk to her. Then, they find out that she's blunt, honest to a fault, and steadfast in her faith in Erastil. Though she's normally calm and collected, she is scared out of her wits by the undead.

Tor - Since it's not a "true" AP, and rather just a series of modules, there isn't a player's guide. I'll try to give a quick rundown for you and anyone else without a gist of the setting.

Kassen is a small town nestled on the edges of the Fangwood, along the banks of the Tourondel River. On the border between Nirmathas and Lastwall, the small town became a stopover point for those traveling along the river.

The town's founder and hero, Ekat Kassen, is interred in a tomb a few days travel to the south. After a fatal battle against an old companion and rival, the people of his town buried him with an everlasting flame, so that others could find peace and warmth even in the depths of the wilderness. Although this happened many years ago, the Crypt of the Everflame (as it has since been called) has become an important part of the village's history. Each year, a group of individuals make the journey to retrieve a beacon lit with the Everflame, to help survive the cold winds of winter.

Typically, the mayor and other major players in the town make this symbolic journey - but every five years, a group of hopeful and prospective townsfolk take on this honor. Serving as a rite of passage, retrieving the Everflame symbolizes that these individuals are both ready and capable of taking on new responsibilities - be it that of an adult, a village elder, or, perhaps, something greater.

Guess I will throw in some rolls and see where it leads....

4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 5) = 16 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 5) = 19 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 3) = 14 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) = 18 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 5) = 15 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 4) = 16 = 12

pretty good may be better than what I had when I first came up with the character I was thinking of playing.

EDIT: looks like I will work up a wizard probably illusioninst

Background:

Things seldomly happened in the sleepy village of Kassen. As a youth, Edvard had a hard time dealing with the mundanity of a simple life. More often than not, it was either through his curiosity or big mouth landed the youth in trouble - dragging his sister sometimes in it too. Had it not been for his twin's watchful eye, Edvard wouldn't have an anchor in the world.

Though Edvard had retained his free spirited nature as he grew older, one moment had shaped a powerful experience between the twins. On a seemingly bold dare, Edvard had dragged his sister into a contest with several of the other kids from the village to see who could stay the longest at a haunted sight. Not wanting to let the others show him up, Edvard had pushed and insisted on his sister staying and toughening out.

As the night progressed, the children's boldness has grown. One of the boys, Jakob had unintentionally awakened an undead causing all the children to flee. Grabbing his sister's arm, Edvard motioned through the trees and shrubbery. When a rogue root had ensnared his sister, he tried with all his might to free her and halt the approaching undead monster. It was from this moment, that nothing meant more than the safety and care of his better half, Elaina. Where she goes, he will follow.

Personality:

Edvard is the-in-your-face kinda guy. He's not afraid to speak his mind, take on someone's challenge, or even compete. He's got a million excuses for when problems happen. Edvard smiles in the face of danger, secretly giving his twin confidence so that she can be strong. But at the heart of it, Edvard will do anything to protect his twin, Elaina.

Background:

Helder was found left in a basket at the outskirts of the village of Kassen. Although everyone agreed that a child could not be left to die, there were some worries that he would grow up to be a monster. These fears were unnecessary, though, as he would become a quite good-natured young man, and with his natural charisma quickly became liked by almost the whole town.

Unlike most youths, who were taught in the trade of their parents, Helder was taught a little by everyone. From the retired wizard to the priest of the town and the rangers who visited the town form time to time, he learnt a little of everything, his knowledge of different fields supporting each other. However, where he really shined, was music, and he often played the organ at the town's church, and was widely regarded one of the best singers of the town.

While life was good, Helder was plauged by the fact that half-orcs age faster and thus die faster than other races. A naturally curious person, every day spent in the village felt like a day wasted, a day without seeing new places, a day closer to the grave. In time, he developed a quite strong interest in all matters concerning death, dancing on the line of what could be considered healthy. To ease the pressure on his soul, he started writing funeral dirges and other kinds of sad, lamenting music.

While this kept him from decending into depression, it did not quench his wanderlust, and he repeatedly expressed his interes in travelling and seeing the world. However, the village elders considered him too unexperienced to for that. But this year, he has volunteered to go retrieve the Everflame from the crypt. After that, they would no longer have excuses to make him stay...

Appearance:

While of average height from the viewpoint of an average human, Helder is quite short for half-orc standards, with a less pronounced musculature than most of his race. However, he makes up for this with his good looks, green skin and tusks only adding to the charm.

Personality:

Helder is a pleasant personality who gets along with all kinds of people. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that he is very accepting of different viewpoints, rarely feeling the need to judge people. While mostly level-headed, he is often a little impatient and might not take the necessary time for planning before acting.

While interested in matters concerning death, he is also quite intrested in avoiding it himself, and thus maintains a casual reverence for all kinds of gods of death or healing. This is made possible by his quite unorthodox "pick and mix" appoarch at religion, praying to whoever he feels fits for the situation, and obeying the tenets which he feels are convenient.

Well, that took quite a bit. I think I succeeded with averting most of the half-orc stereotypes. I might have something smart to say after I have slept a little. If you notice anything, please tell.

Final character submission:

Kara Deepshadow

Grand Lodge

Well, after getting sidetracked, I realized I closed out my original dice rolls after recording them, but oh well. Here they are, after drops:

8
5
6
16
13
12

I went "holy crap." But then I said to myself, "Hmmm, could this be playable? Will I fall seriously behind the party's overall power level? should I just go with a 20 point build, since this is like a 2 point build? or..."

Then that little voice cried out inside, you know, that voice that speaks to us when the impossible is presented to us. It said:

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

So, for this challenge I humbly submit: Maxis Molderbin, Halfling alchemist extraordinaire! Full details in profile, let me know if any choices are illegal/unapproved, etc.

I am backing out due to personal issues.

Hello, I am new to these forums. I and experienced with Pathfinder and I am currently running a game in RL. I would like to try this PBP game if any spots are open.

Now that I am able to post a little more coherently, here is some stuff I decided to change or forgot to mention.

First, the only avatar image I liked was female, so Helder is now known as Délia. :D (I usually determine the gender of my PC's randomly, so no big deal.)

Second, I updated the stats and fluff, mostly cosmetic changes, but thought I should mention it anyway.

Third, I made a profile for her, as you might have noticed. :)

Also, a little question:

I chose elven as one of the bonus languages due to high Intelligence, although half-orcs usually can not choose it. However, I thought that it makes much more sense for someone who has lived all of her life in a human society than Abyssal or Gnoll, for example.

Athoulgh I can change it if it is a problem, no worries.

Gronk tells you, the end times are comming.
Gronk shows you, signs of the obliviation.
Gronk make you, believe all things die.
So says Groteus. So shall it be.

Details in avatar. This is a kinda crazy half-orc cleric I've been wanting to play for a while now. The god Groteus is from the Inner Sea World Guide. If that is a problem, let me know. If there is any anything else you want to know about Gronk, just let me know.
If selected will be very easy to quickly update to your char creation rules.

just got into 2 other games, I think I will withdraw from consideration for this one.

thanks though

*checks watch* Is it night yet? ;)

Ok, I was reading the sales pitch of the module from here

Are the applicants supposed to be natives of Kassen? if so I may need to re-write my back story from scratch. (looked up Krassen on the pathfinder wiki and seems that there are no gnomes in Kassen at all).

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

Hey guys,

Gonna close the submissions and look everything over tonight, I'll have a list tomorrow night of the characters I've selected. Thanks for all the awesome characters - It's not going to be easy to turn people away.

Edward - If you want to rewrite your backstory, go right ahead - I won't let that be a major factor in whether or not your character 'makes the cut'. A native (or current resident) gnome in Kassen isn't that farfetched to me. Seems like those little buggers end up everywhere. I think as long as you have some kind of tie to the town and a reason to take up the role of "hero" in the annual ceremony, that'd be solid enough to go on.

Also, sorry it's kind of late. Got caught up doing real-life things until now.

Could be an outlier, someone that doesn't live in the village proper, but is well known, and liked enough, to be given a shot at this rite.

Revised Background:
Elaina and Edvard had grown up in Kassen. The sleepy little village on the northern edge of Nirmathas didn't hold many opportunities for getting into trouble.
It did have some.

At a young age, Elaina, Edvard, and several friends went on a dare to see who would stay the whole night at this spooky place in the woods. Everything seemed fine, the kids grew bolder by the hour. As the night wore on, a young boy named Jakob, was going to the center of the spooky spot.

Made some edits to Elaina's background to better fit what Cy wrote for Edvard's I'll have an alias up in a bit.

well I think I'll just go with what I got hope for the best.

Guess i should research the module before hand next time. If I think of something soon I'll amend the story.

Well I did find a way and edited my backstory to better meld to the module info. (at least what I read about it without getting any revealing spoilers)

sorry about the length of it, but I started to get on a roll in my draft copy, once the idea started it just kept going.

Updated profile with expanded backstory

Well, that might have been the hardest thing I've ever had to do as a GM. I really hate the idea of turning away people who want to play, but here's the final list of people. I tried to pick the ones I thought would fit together best as a cohesive and interesting group, but everyone had awesome characters. Apologies to those who didn't make it in!

Areed -> Sevrin Withers, Witch
Adam Warnock -> Elaina, Fighter
Old Mammoth -> Delia, Bard
FratManCy -> Edvard, Fighter
Ridge -> Nedyr, Druid

I'll be posting up a thread in the discussion forum within the next hour, so further discussion can move there. I figure the adventure will begin in earnest on Tuesday night, so everyone (myself included) can prepare themselves for some serious postin'.

man doesn't anybody want a wizard anymore?
oh well maybe next game

Yay. Thank you.

I hope sombody else decides to run this adventure hate to see that backstory go to waste since it really doesn't go well with anything else

Grats all! Have fun!

Grand Lodge

I figured the build I had wouldn't quite make it with the average power level, but no biggie. There will always be a place for those who DARE to roll low and go with it. Have fun, all!

For we lucky few who made it in,
I think the discussion thread is here

Have a great game :-) !
