I Hate My [Bleep]ing Printer!

Off-Topic Discussions

Got a new one over the summer on the recommendation of a Staples guy. It worked with only minor glitches until last week, when it demanded that I replace the magenta cartridge...to print black and white. An obvious money grab, but that's just how printer companies design their products as I understand it, so whatever. So I replace the magenta cartridge, and then I get an error message: the printer not only doesn't recognize the new magenta cartridge -- it no longer recognizes the black one either!

I call the company to calmly explain my issues, and why I'm never going to buy anything from them again -- expecting something like "Can we help you solve this issue?" -- but no. Just a "Thanks for your call."

I'm hoping someone can assure me that the world of printers has something better to offer me, somewhere.

Brother laser Printer...its now cheaper to buy a printer (with its cartridge) for the job than buy a replacement cartridge for an old laser printer.

We have three Printers each progressively cheaper than the last. I'm surprised they bother making the cartridge replaceable.

its flaw - at a certain point -either through use of the toner or lack of use you will be prompted for a new toner to replace the old one. Don't - in some cases the printer is contaminated and cant cope with the soot build up so replacing it is better than blowing your money on a new toner cartridge that wont be used before it is declared in need of replacement.

I own a HP Deskjet. Works fine for me. Cartridges are a bit pricey, but I've had it for about 2 years now and it runs without a hitch. The one it replaced died due to someone being stupid enough to put their drink right above it while changing the cartridge and I own two cats...

How much did you spend on it, if you don't mind me asking? I wonder if pricier printers are generally built better. I've heard conflicting answers, so I'm going on anecdotal evidence. (My last printer was HP, and it did last longer than my current one but it had several obnoxious glitches.)

If I recall as I lost the receipt during my recent move it was under 100 dollars. I want to say 50, but it might have been closer to 80. I did get it on a ridiculously good sale so that helped a great deal on picking it out at the time.

Its exact model is HP Deskjet D1520.

I have encountered exactly zero difficulties or operational issues with my Canon Pixma. Ink is decently priced, too.
