Newbie player needs help building a Cavalier

Advice

Hello all, I am quite new to Pathfinder (I have only had a couple game sessions). I have the opportunity to join in on a very casual game where our team of PCs is 'good' guys and will be facing off against any and all 'bad' guys. I love the Lord of the Rings 'world', and am making a Cavalier in an attempt to style him after a Rider of Rohan. I cannot afford to buy the books yet, and will not have access to anyone else's book the first game session. :( Is there anyone that would be willing to make up a level 7 Human male Cavalier from one of the 'orders' where he would be a good guy that protects the innocent, etc. I'm thinking Lawful Good alignment, and message or email me the info? The theme to keep in mind is Rider of Rohan.

Thanks!

You can find the information you need to build a character on the Pathfinder PRD - http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ or the Pathfinder SRD http://www.d20pfsrd.com/. I do recommend you buy the basic manual ASAP though, as it is handy to have around.

As for advice for your character, the first thing I would do is make sure you'll have opportunities to actually fight with a mounted character. If the game involves a ton of dungeon diving you may not be able to ride your mount all that often. So long as the game involves a good amount of out-door combat you should be good though.

As far as Orders go, Order of the Sword is really good if you wind up doing most of your fighting on a mount. Order of the Warrior (Samurai Order) is a good one for any situation. Order of the Dragon / Order of the Lion are good if you want to go more of a team player route.

There are two archetypes you may want to look at:

Beast Rider lets you treat your mount as druid companion, so even if you aren't able to ride it you could potentially have your horse aid you in combat.

Emissary changes the Cavalier to a class that seems closer to the Riders of Rohan. You give up heavy armor, the Banner class feature and the Tactician class feature, but you gain greater proficiency as a mounted fighter. You'll get the following feats for free as you level: Mounted Combat, Mobility (also given to your mount), Trick Riding and Mounted Skirmisher. You can also use your bonus feats on all combat feats plus Endurance, Fleet or Run.
