Camouflage special ability.

Rules Questions

Has anyone seen a write-up for the camouflage ability that some monstes posess? I have looked in all 3 beastiaries to no avail.

Every monster that I've checked with a camouflage ability has the explanation for that ability in its own entry. Which monster are you looking at that does not?

The Giant Crab Spider doesn't seem to have its camouflage ability explained, but all other monsters in the Bestiaries do have an explanation for their camouflage ability.

(At least as far as I saw. I did a search for "Camouflage" on PDF copies of those books.)

Eh? Which monsters? Most will actually list it below their stat blocks, since it isn't a universal monster rule.

Indeed I was looking at the giant crab spider. Any ideas what it gets for this ability?

The camouflage ability does completely different things for all the monsters that get it. So I doubt there is a way to determine what the spiders version is supposed to do, unless a developer decides to answer.

Quote:
Camouflage (Ex) Since an assassin vine looks like a normal plant when at rest, a DC 20 Perception check is required to notice it before it attacks for the first time. Anyone with ranks in Survival or Knowledge (nature) can use either of those skills instead of Perception to notice the plant.
Quote:
Camouflage (Ex) An old or older green dragon can use Stealth to hide in any sort of natural terrain, even if the terrain does not grant cover or concealment.
Quote:
Camouflaged Step (Ex) Skulks can pass through forest and subterranean settings almost without a trace. Add +10 to the DC to track a skulk in these environments.
Quote:
Camouflage (Ex) A garden ooze is difficult to spot when it is at rest among plant growth of any type. A DC 15 Perception check is required to notice the ooze is a separate entity and not a diseased portion of the plant it rests upon. The ooze automatically hits with a slam against any creature that fails to notice the ooze and enters its square.

What book is the giant crab spider from?

Bestiary 3. The camouflage ability it has is most likely its +15 Stealth modifier while stationary.

I agree with Cheapy. Stealth is +10, +25 when stationary. That sounds like its camouflage.
