New to Play-by-Post and looking for a group to join

Recruitment

Hello everyone. First let me say I'm familiar with what the pathfinder PRD offers, and have general tabletop experience, as well as text based roleplay experience. But I've never really bridged the gap between them until now.

So, anyone know a group (preferably forgiving to a newbe like me) that could use another character?

Hi crypteck.

I'm looking for my first pbp game too. I've submitted several characters but have yet to be selected.

I think the best thing to do is to keep trying with fully written up characters including an interesting backstory. Competition for places seems to be quite fierce so perseverence is the key, at least thats my strategy anyway!

There are a few open games looking for players right now...throw your hat in the ring if you haven't already.

My advice:

1. Have 2 or 3 characters of varying roles ready to go...oftentimes filling a function that no one else has put in for can give you a leg up on the competition.

2. Have a one or two full paragraphs of background for your character. Some GMs require essays...others prefer term papers. While writing a background for a character before I've played a session or two is very difficult for me I've found that some halfway decent prose will increase the likelihood of your selection. Try to find a hook that makes your character unique. (Hint: Becoming orphaned because your family was slaughtered by orcs will not make your story unique. Everyone's family was slaughtered by orcs.)

3. Unless its first come, first served...try to submit your character as late as possible. It will give you an idea of what party roles may be lacking; and a lazy GM might not scroll back to the first page of the discussion. 8-D This also gives you time to:

4. Check out the GM. Look at some of the other games he or she has run. Have any of them stalled out? Does their GM style match your play style? Nothing is worse than finally getting into a game and not having fun once its started.

Good luck...and don't be discouraged if you're not picked right away.

You should check out the unofficial PbP bible as well. Doomed Hero's Guide to PbP

If you are interested in a VTT game (rather than a PbP game) I know of one that needs a couple players. Its in its 3rd week and we have had the usual attrition (ie: People signing up and then not showing up). A regular time commitment is a must. Mondays at 9pm EST until 1am EST.

VTT I have done before and I enjoyed the heck out of it. The only reason I haven't kept in with it was because finding regular groups was so difficult. Please tell me more.

Concerro (aka Wraithstrike) is GMing it under the name Watcher Uatu.

The AP is Rise of the Runelords.
The time is monday from 9pm EST until 1am EST.
The VTT being used is Roll20 (a very easy to use VTT).
Microphone/Headsets are useful but not required. Most in character conversation is conducted via text while much of the out of character banter is via headset.

The current group composition is Sorcerer, Master Summoner, and Cleric (me). Unfortunately, like many online games, people signed up and then failed to show up.
