I think I'm missing something here.
Players are only allowed to buy the handful of magic items listed in the GtPFSOP and the items listed on their Chronicle sheets.
Yet, the Additional Resources list features some "Magic Item" entries. The PFS Field Guide, the entirety of which is legal, also has magic items in it.
Why? What's the point? They're legal, but you can't buy them unless they show up on a Chronicle, in which case it's rather obvious that they're legal.

Nope.
"Always available" means "always available". If a brand-new, first level PC somehow finds himself playing up into subtier 4-5 and walks away with 1,900gp he could go right ahead and buy some masterwork full plate or a +1 breastplate. No fame required.
Similarly, an item on a chronicle sheet is available regardless of your fame score. If you've got the gold, you can buy it. Period.
Your fame score is for everything else. Every legal item that appears neither on your chronicle sheets nor on the AA list is governed by your fame score.
For instance, once you have 5 fame, you can buy ANY legal item worth 500gp or less, even if it's not on a chronicle sheet or the AA list.

Thank you both!
If you need to have the table handy at games, print one of these:

I really expected this to be that page from the field guide. Has all of the fame and PA charts.

Needs a minor update, changing always available mundane items to exclude firearms.

I print this on the back of all my chronicle sheets when I GM :D
I played the Runecarved Key special under this man. This chronicle sheet is (and probably will be) my favourite chronicle sheet (ever) for this exact reason, as I NEVER remember the things on those tables, or where to easily access them.

Funny. I found this thread while looking for info about buying magic items/weapons/armor after playing in a session you GM'd this past Saturday. After reading the thread, I looked on the back of my chronicle sheet and there it was: all the info I was searching for. I never thought to flip it over! :)
