Shadow Lodge 4/5 5/55/55/55/5 **** Venture-Captain, California—San Francisco Bay Area North & East

I have table tents for all my characters. The front has picture, name, [ethnicity] [race] from [homeland], class (no levels) of [who they worship] (with god's symbol), what faction they are (with symbol).

The back has the stuff I need most from the character sheet. (AC, INI, saves) and my most common attack info, such as:

(for the musket master)

The Exchange 5/5

Thread Necro...

I'm wondering how people introduce their PCs...

SO, You're at the table with 5 strangers, the Judge is doing judge things, the room is kind of noisy as other tables are setting up, and you need to let everyone know what you are bringing to the table, what you are going to be running, or adding to the team or whatever... How do you do that?

The Exchange 5/5

I glance around at the other players and say...

"Hi! I'm Friendly! But you can call me 'Fire' if you want to!"

change of voice to be OOC
I'm running an Ifrit Alchemist who's a fair "Face" PC, so I can handle most of the Social Skills, as well as the standard Alchemist stuff - Fire Bombs, Alchemical items, etc...

this added with my table tent let's the other players know a good bit about my PC, and what he "brings to the party..."

Depending on the character and our time limits, I can have more or less elaborate introductions. I'll typically give a visual description, then depending on time I will either give a brief rundown of what they do, or give a couple of sentences of in-character introduction. A couple of my characters also have more elaborate introductions if time permits (one of them introduces himself by handing the rest of the party a letter from Drendle Drang explaining why they've been stuck with him, and one has a couple of DC10 Knowledge Local checks to know some seedy rumors about him from around the lodge).

As DM i make it a point to go around the table and have the characters introduce themselves and say what they look like, and give them a bit of a chance to show off personality

You're awoken at 5 in the morning by drendle drang, how is your character sleeping and how do they react... having your character already up and training says one thing, while waking up in a pile of wine bottles with a donkey braying in the middle of the room says quite something else.

You head into the tapestry. How does your character jump in. Stately stride? Hands over eyes? Holding a sign that says "GREETINGS ELDRITCH ABOMINATIONS OF THE IN BETWEEN. I COME IN PEACE AND BRING PANCAKES"

You are traveling through the X, what is your character doing? The taldan fop can ick and rub indignantly at their expensive silks getting ruined by the swamp muck while the swamp druid with the swamp domain can gleefully jump in every puddle and cuddle the leeches.

You are attacked by something that your character is uniquely qualified to deal with. How does your character deal with this... its cinematic so you can describe it with any resources you want but you don't expend them.

Always start with a player thats seen this sort of thing before and let the new guy go last.

Silver Crusade 4/5

I generally give a brief physical description, then introduce my PC in the character's voice.

For instance:

Quote:

My character's a blue skinned gnome with wild green hair sticking out in all directions.

(change to higher, faster "gnome" voice), "Hiya! I'm Wizzlefarb. I'm a bard, and I like to make people laugh. I'm not so good at the fighting parts of Pathfindering, but I'm really good to have along for talking to people and knowing stuff. And I do have some magic that sometimes helps when things get violent."

Scarab Sages 5/5

"Hi, I'm Katish. Call me Kat or Tish, never Kat-tish. I'll handle all the social skills, and I'm pretty useless in combat."

depending on who else is at the table we expand from there... I do watch for a chance to use my tag-line, "Usually, that costs extra..."

How I introduce my characters depends on which character I'm playing and where I'm playing. I keep my introductions out of character, generally giving an idea of my class and main role, when I'm playing at a convention or with a bunch of people who I am not familiar with. But when I'm at my FLGS for a PFS night, and the table is full of people that I know, I get a bit more in-character.

For example, when playing my Barbarian at a convention, "Hepa Haole stands a few hairs over 7 feet tall and is solid muscle. He has close cut hair that used to be dark brown but has been bleached by a lot of years in the sun. His skin is dark brown and leathery, and he has a puka shell necklace from which a purple butterfly hangs. He's wearing a blueish-silver breastplate and loose drawstring pants with sandles. He smiles at you warmly as he leans against his adamantine scythe. He has a wild gleam in his eyes, but he seems rather puppy-like right now."

When playing my Barbarian with friends, "HELLO FRIENDS! MY NAME IS HEPA HAOLE! I AM FROM A SMALL FISHING VILLAGE ON THE BORDER OF TALDOR AND QADIRA! OR IS IT QADIRA AND TALDOR? TADIRA AND QALDOR? I LIKE TO FISH AND I LIKE TO SURF! I CAN CLIMB AND I CAN SWIM!" (Inevitably during a scenario someone asks, "Can anyone do <insert skill here>?" to which Hepa always replies, "I CAN CLIMB AND I CAN SWIM!"

"I am Angelo Gaius Cassius Fierro, Master of All Things Arcane, Knower of All Things Worth Knowing and Trained Diplomat."

I then go to describe Anglelo as a tiefling, and warn that a) while technically he is a trained diplomat, he does have a CHA of 6, though at least now, with his headband, he does have a positive bonus. b) He will talk... though you probably don't want him to... c) The tail tends to have a mind of its own.

If he anyone ever brings up the fact that he failed a knowledge check, he brushes it off with, "Obviously that fact was not worth knowing. Were you not listening earlier?"

When he's adventured with other wizards, he has been known to say things like, "Son, stand back and see how a real wizard does things!"

Scarab Sages 2/5

Likewise some of my character introductions are descriptions, some are almost completely in character. Let's take a few examples.

Marundor Korugin
Marundor is a very dwarfy dwarf. His dark brown hair and beard are just starting to show hints of grey. While most of his hair is loose he wears two plaits at his temples. He's gruff, stocky, working class and walks with a slow deliberation as if calculating every step.

Nemien Callishan
Nemien is small verging on the diminutive. A mass of short scruffy dark hair frames her round childlike face complete with a big floppy fringe that constantly threatens to get in her emerald green eyes. She dresses plain and simple peasant attire. Warm wooly jumpers, skirts, that kind of thing. At her side hangs an old satchel in which she keeps an assortment of books, notes, drawings, writing and artistic equipment. Basically just think impoverished art student and you wouldn't be far off.

Dagna & Gemma dur Assel
Dagna: Erm, hello.... I'm Dagna and this is Gemma. She's my best friend-
Gemma: Er that's Life Partner Gemma if you don't mind! (Dagna face palms) Get it right. Honestly. Look, it's rather simple really. I'm kind of like her best friend only I don't really exist because I'm sort of made up or something. But I'm not made up. I'm real. I'm really real and look, I've got fireworks. Here's one for you, and one for you, and one for you... (she starts handing out the sparklers while Dagna continues explaining).
Dagna: So this is Gemma. She likes to talk. we're pretty inseperable really.
Gemma: Lok, we've even got matching helmets with a glowing dwarven rune on the front so you'll know we're the two dwarfs who adventure together.
Dagna: Something like that.

Thannard Mul
"Thannard likes to work on the farm. With the animals. Animals are nice. It's calm. He can relax. Sometimes I get to touch the animals. But. But. But sometimes I touch them too hard and I hurt them and then I get in trouble. People ask me to help putting in fence posts. Fence posts don't dodge. Well, usually they don't unless the person holding them gets scared of me with the hammer and let's go of the post. There was an adventure. There was a cold lady. I think she was cold. She must have been. It was very cold. There was snow on the ground and I saw it! There was a cold lady in the forst and there were some animals there too and she was being naughty with them so we had to rescue the animals from the cold lady in the forest!" By the time he's remembered all of this poor Thannard is usually nodding at each of the facts that he's remembered, mangled and somehow turned into the deeper inner meanings of his life. He'll sometimes turn up bearing a piece of paper with a message to his fellow pathfinders written on it from a superior (because Thannard can't read).

Silver Crusade

You hear the twangs of shamisens and whispers of tian flutes, but you see no band. The music seems to emerge from a nearby roof. A flowing high-collared cape and wide-brimmed jingasa belie the figure's short stature, a crow-man no more than five feet tall. He stands there, arms folded, his right eye covered by an eyepatch, a curved sword at his left hip, and chest and arms covered in sarashi bandages.

"The spirits of the heavens, and the peoples of the earth cry out for a hero..."

He opens his eyes, and throws out his arm in a sweeping, grandiose gesture. Even though he has a beak instead of a mouth, you can discern a wild grin on his face.

"Reiji Nakami answers, and the hells tremble!"

*various Ginyu Force poses*

"First Master of the School of the Undefeated of the East, Second Sword of Absalom, Enemy of All Evil and Lies, Wielder of the Sword Guren-no-Jiyuu, and Greatest Living Student of Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus, Undefeated of the West."

He dives off the roof, revealing his winged arms as he glides down.

I always ask to do my intro last and if there is a roof/rafters/a loft for him to start from.
