(Besides, I feel that this trick should be an alchemist discovery in its own right too... the Poison Bomb discovery is different and the trick is much more versatile).

No. A Daggermark Poisoner must select smoke bomb as a toxic trick prior to selecting poison bomb. A lenient GM may allow otherwise (so you may wish to check first), but it would be a houserule.
As the ninja trick. A Daggermark poisoner must possess the smoke bomb toxic trick before selecting this trick.
