How do you heal an Elemental?

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I am going to play an Earth Elemental going Monk in a campaign this weekend. How would I get healed? Would normal healing spells work? The rules say any living creature for a Cure Light Wounds spell. However, for a Channel Positive Energy you need Elemental Channel to heal outsiders.

Thanks!

Elementals are living beings.

Use cure spells.

As far as I recall, Channel Positive Energy heals all living creatures (including Outsiders), but Alignment Channel and Elemental Channel heal ONLY those creatures. So you can use Alignment Channel to do damage to Evil Outsiders (normally not allowed by Channeling) or you could use Alignment Channel to heal only Good Outsiders (and not heal any other living creatures) similar to Selective Channel but by type instead of by choice.

At least that is how my DM ruled it since Outsiders are "living" creatures as well.

Other than undead and constructs, all creature types are considered living beings.

They also heal naturally. By RAW, nothing would even stop you using a healer's kit on one.

Being alive is no guarantee you can recieve Cure X Wounds spells though. To wit: Simulacra.

This does not invalidate the above statement.

My negative channeling Cleric blasted an air elemental apart using his Channel Energy, so the opposite should be true to heal.

Good luck using a healers kit on your pet elemental. The bandages keep getting wet, blowing away, or burning up. Old Rocky is doing ok though, aside from bring ugly.

You could maybe use a bucket of cement on Rocky.

4 people marked this as a favorite.

Dammit Jim! I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer!!

I believe that alignment channel can work on the outsider of a particular type, and lets you heal or harm them like Undead or Living creatures.

So channel positive energy using Alignment Channel to harm them as Undead
And channel negative energy to heal them as undead, I believe is the use.

Elemental does the same thing with elementals. Right?

A normal channel works on them. The Channel Elemental feat is just allows you to damage or heal them exclusively.

Would healing a fire elemental with a touch spell damage the healer? Or maybe burn the wand?

As everyone else has said, elementals are alive. The only real difference between them and a standard creature comes up if one dies, since apparently their souls and bodies are one like outsiders.
