Or you can multiclass.

My point being is why is multiclassing a bad idea? The one and only thing I can figure (since 3/4 of my characters are multiclass) is that spells that make you a better fighter are few, so make more of those and then multiclass, two problems solved, wizards get to be gods and everyone high level uses magic.

edit: The damage thing was just an example, doesn't have to be damage.
