This one looks like fun. I'd been meaning to try these for a while anyway. Thanks for the heads-up!

A recent miniatures kickstarter has tapped me out :(

I got in on this one too, especially since Skull and Shackles will be my next Adventure Path. I need pirate mooks!

I like the minis, I hate their pledge system.

Whats a Level 1? Whats a Level 2? PPM, ALT & NAT etc.

Maybe its just that its late and I'm tired, but it seems a bit hard to work out EXACTLY what you get for what.

Reaper made it a LOT clearer.

These don't look bad at all. I don't really need the pirate themed stuff though. I much more like the existing sets they already have, the vines and tentacles type stuff.

PPM = Pre-Painted Mini (the Tidal Wave set)

ALT = Alternate color paint jobs on the Tidal Wave set
NAT = unpainted Tidal Wave figures

Thanks Damon, got up and looked at it again this morning :)

It's a good offer, I just think that it can get a little unclear exactly what you are getting for exactly what dollars.

It could be cleared up a bit I think...

I'm still lost on what a Level 1 or Level 2 is.

I think the levels only matter once the goal is met to differentiate the stretch goals rewards.

The Reaper KS only had Level 1 (below Vampire) and level 2 (Vampire and above).

Any time a stretch goal hit for adding minis to Vampire, only the "level 2" folks at Vampire plus received them free.

I assume there will be extras based on donation level added to the Stretch goals but we don't know what they are yet.

A guess would be options on alternative paint jobs based on Level.
Now Level 2 --> alternative painted Dame
Level 3 --> Dame and Ruffian
Level 4 --> Dame, Ruffian, Deckhand, and Pirate
Level 5 --> Jellyroom, Ghost Hound, Dame, Ruffian, Deckhand, and Pirate
Level 6 --> Full set of alternative paint jobs
So it is fairly likely that if you want lots of alternative paints then you'll want to up to Level 5 or 6 as the stretch goals hit (which I would do anyway since I want 3 sets of the first set and likely multiples of the stretch goal sets as they become available).

As is the existing content is a good deal.

The PPM credits are worth a set for every 2 credits now.

The assumption is that some sets would cost 1 credit (say a 4 figure set) and some might cost more.

Jody Johnson's pretty much got it.

Levels have not been revealed yet.

If you have a Level 3 Bonus, then Level 1 & 2 are included automatically.

For example;
Level 1 gets Bonus A.
Level 2 gets Bonus A & B.
Level 3 gets Bonus A, B & C.

Hope that helps.

Day 3, and we're over $11k of our $60k goal!

And, if you haven't had time to check this out yet, don't forget to check out our PNP game Labyrinth! http://dungeoncrawler.com/dcl/index.html

Let's see if I am understanding this right. If I put in for the Plasti-ElmBox level I get:

  • 4 sets of unpainted minis (8x4 = 32 minis)
  • 1 painted dame mini
  • + possibly some unspecified as of yet "Level 2" stretch rewards

  • Correct!

And, if we make our stretch rewards, you can swap out up to 3 of your Tidal Wave sets for other sets.

Always nice to look at the first list and see Lisa and Erik in there as well. Does that mean I have good taste in Kickstarters? Or am I just a sucker for Minis.

The Mercenaries set looks really good. How many Persian Sailor minis are out there?

This Kickstarter update lays it out and reveals the Mercenaries set.

    Update #3

Gifted Vision focuses on items that haven't been done in prepainted plastic.

Hmm, looks like derick81 beat me to the announcement. :)

We will give everyone who pledges before October 3rd, 1 extra mini (at random sizes tiny-medium) from of our achieved goals if we reach 500 backers, if we are able to reach 1000 we will make that 3 extra minis.

All those that have already pledged get this reward too, and it is stackable with the “FIRST” promotion!

I'm 'first' on the $50 list. Might upgrade to $75. I've spent soo much on minis already recently though.

I'm on this at a juicy level. MOAR MINIS.

Hey Erik (and others on this board), thanks for your support, it is greatly appreciated. You guys rock! :)

338 Backers to go for the bonus mini - in 7 days!

So you can get 33 unpainted mini's for $50, that's quite nice - especially at this stage.

two more minis revealed one is baba yagas huts but it looks like you could use it as a generic hut and a kracken both are huge

the hut is in concept art stage the are saying you can take the roof off and remove it from the base and snap two skeletal chicken legs on it

320 to go in 1 day, inconceivable! We've also done a major revision on our KickStarter, tweeked a little and made it more straight forward to read. Naturals are now available as singles (apologies on the graphics, I'll see if I can update them better).

    We've just dropped a huge reveal/spoiler combo on our KickStarter - http://kck.st/UsVJ8l

This is the newest best deal in miniatures out there on kickstarter, if you are looking for low cost miniatures. Why pay $50 for 5 miniatures, when for the same price you could get 32 miniatures.

I agree, pres man. For some reason it has been struggling to sustain any sort of momentum. I really hope it can draw some additional interest.

In talking with a few of the locals here and asking what is holding them back, it is the subject. Several say they just do not need pirates. Sad because this company has done some cool minis so far.

That's a shame. DCM seems focused on more niche minis that other companies aren't doing. The Mercenaries stretch-goal set seems more generally useful, but it's still a bit niche.

I'd have thought the great big water elemental would be interesting, if nothing else.

Ship time is over a year out: That's a huge delay. People are complaining about Reaper being 4-6 months out, this is more than twice that.

Pirates: While cool, they are sort of a niche and not very general purpose. Combined with the above it's particularly limiting. Also... many people got pirates as part of Bones.

Base Reward: If the project closed tomorrow and was funded, people who pledged $150 get eight copies of the same 8 pirate minis... I guess if you are making pirate armies that's great, but that doesn't excite me. The impression I get is the project is built on the assumption that a bunch of the 'stretch' goals are met. How many stretch goals have to be met for the project to be worth participating in?

I hope this project gets funded because it's a great looking set of minis, but a year delay for a pile of pirates or pirates plus some unannounced mystery minis is a tough sell.

Oddly enough, I didn't design this KickStarter for people to drop huge pledges on it immediately, it was meant to grow, but we needed a high amount of low level pledges to get going. Seems to have completely gone the other way around.

I hadn't heard any complaints about the time to market until now, I'm pretty cautious about timing. Our last set was out within 6 months. If we do end up doing a huge set of minis it could take a year to complete, but just the Pirate set would be much faster.

We've done several reveals recently, so hopefully it gives a good idea of what's ahead other than just the pirates.

Since we've opened the kickstarter up to buying singles, it appears we're starting to get those lower level backers we were looking for. :)

One month to go guys, don't miss this deal.

    Just gave $30

    You can't beat that deal.

    Get a butt-ton of minis for $30.

And the stretch goals kick butt too:

    Stretch goal #1

    Stretch Goal #2

    :)

Just FYI. The Kickstarter is going to Redeux. If you are remotely interested, this would be the time to get in. Anyone in on this kickstarter by Wednesday will get a Loyalty bonus on the Redeux.

I hope that in the redeux they adjust the focus away from the pirates and back toward the fun and unique figures like the ones in their existing line. I could not talk my buds into this one as each took one look and said the same thing; "I don't need pirates".

While I understand the list of four items they list in their post, I overcame most of those. The focus on the water/pirate theme I could not overcome with my friends.

There are 4 minis they can jump on that aren't Pirate minis - Jellyshroom, Mermaid, Water Elemental and Ghost Hound.

All of these are available as Singles in the KS Redeux (and currently).

I would even say that the Ruffian can be used as any low level knife wielding chump, not just a pirate.

Have you considered trading out some of the miniatures from the proposed stretch goals, to increase diversity in the original set? I am wondering that if you switched the deckhand and pirate with the persian sailor and persian scourge it might increase initial interest from those people not interested in pirates.

    Hi pres man,

We've considered it, but it seems every selection we've explored has some folks that are vocally against them - the pirates actually rated very high in our surveys for instance for quantities. The figure we did not survey was the Jellyshroom, which was our "risk" mini, and we seem to have the least complaints about it. We were disappointed in our survey with some of the selections that a higher volume of people wanted, but would only get 1 of total. Essentially, it's difficult to tell which figures will sell more of.

I strongly believe that the mini selection is not the issue, I believe it was the credit system of the campaign that was the core issue - and the really high goal (which we knew was an issue).

Granted it was a bit confusing before. Sadly, I remain confused after all the changes. I've got the:

PLASTI-HOARD PLEDGE: Get 1 copy of each Tidal Wave mini: Dame, Deckhand, Ghost Hound, Jellyshroom, Mermaid, Pirate, Ruffian, Water Elemental Lord! Also, get 12 PPM Credits, a bonus Alternate Paint FULL Alternate Paint Set and all Level 6 bonuses as they become available!

I gather that in addition to the figures listed above I'll get "any 4 minis of [my] choice of Tiny, Small or Medium sizes" just for having pledged to the original KS before the 17th. What do the 12 PPM credits convert to under Redeux? And what's considered a Level 6 bonus now?

Well regardless of why you are having to hit the restart button, I want to wish you the best. I love the figures you made that I already own. The mastiff is used as a cohort and the others show up often.

One thing that is confusing and you may want to reconsider is you talk about stretch goals while you are still far away from your actual goal. People aren't going to back because of a stretch goal they don't think you will hit.

I'm not sure how your finances work out with these or what the molds may look like, but you may want to consider only doing 1 or 2 minis at first and then add the rest through stretch goals like what Bombshell Babes did.

Hi Damon, the redeux has not begun yet. So, this will change again, to a much simpler campaign.

If you've backed our current KS - then YES you can get in on the "any 4 minis of [my] choice of Tiny, Small or Medium sizes"

Nothing else will convert over to the KS Redeux except the Loyalty Bonus, it will be all new.

    Thanks Danielc!

Caineach, many people demanded to see more of the stretch rewards as they don't know what to expect from us. I tend agree with them, despite the cluttering of the campaign. You're idea of doing just one mini hadn't crossed my mind, as the goals required were high my deduction was that a larger set would be more appealing to the masses.

For instance; a Goal of $20,000-ish for 1 mini (because we'll require the moulds for the figure and the base and factory set up), then +$5,750-ish could be more attainable... interesting thought though, I will think on this some more. PPMs are much more expensive than resin for start-ups, so we're in a difficult position.

Don't forget to get on this before the Redeux happens so you can get the loyalty bonus.
