Random Encounters

Serpent's Skull

I am slowly gathering the books to run this AP and have noticed they all include a random encounter table. I have seen on the forums quite a lot that in racing to ruin there is a chance 4x a day for one to occur. What I can't find is where that is listed in the AP.

I also don't see any sort of frequency listed for either the 1st or 3rd book in the AP (I picked up the 4th but haven't ready it yet. It has ambushes instead)

Is this information I've looked over and missed or something in the GM's guide I haven't read?

Thanks!

Book 1 has the frequency of random encounters listed on page 77 (just below the table).

Book 2 either doesn't have a frequency listed, or I'm unable to find it at the moment.

Book 3 has the frequency of random encounters listed on page 79 (next to the table).

Thanks!

Just something I missed some how. They do seem to have cramed a lot of info into these books.

I would go easy on all the random encounters in book 1. My party is just now finishing book 1 and they're going to be halfway to 5th level, in large part to the high number of random encounters. If the party is doing any sort of exploration, and coming across a lot of monster dens, you could potentially reduce the number of random encounters by half and should be fine.

In book 2, I'd just use the same frequency for random encounters as in book 1. That's how I'm rolling it. I like the variety of random encounters in book 2 as well, and they make more sense in the monotony of travel from point A to point B over the course of several months.

Also remember to ignore certain random encounters if the party has already defeated all the monsters of that type on the island.

Book Two can be a bit flexible, too. The point is to a) give your PCs experience and b) hammer home the fact that this is a dangerous area and reinforce that it's realistic that an amazing treasure city has remained undiscovered for ten thousand years.
