Austin,TX: Dragon's Lair Pathfinder Ultimate Game Day

Shadow Lodge Event Coordinator - Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy®

Dragon's Lair Comics and Fantasy is planning an Ultimate Game Day this September 22nd. We're running thirteen tables over three time slots, mostly PFS modules and scenarios, but a couple of other modules just for fun. Characters of nearly any level will be able to find a table (unless you're above 20 or so, in which case maybe not, haha).

WHEN: September 22nd, 10am to Midnight
WHAT: Thirteen tables and fourteen hours of solid back-to-back gaming, random door prizes, PFS credit, modules, specials, and sessions geared towards everyone from total beginners to veteran players. There will also be a consolation prize for whoever rolls the most nat-1's during the course of the day.
WHERE: Dragon's Lair Comics and Fantasy at 6111 Burnet Road, south of 183 and right across from Lamar Middle School.
WHY: Because it's going to freaking sweet, that's why.

ALSO, I NEED GMS. If you're in the Austin area and can stop by on the 23rd for even just one four-hour time slot (10am-2pm, 3pm-7pm, or 8pm-Midnight), send me your email address. All GMs get bonus prizes for helping out, including coupons for store merchandise, among other things. If you're already involved in the Dragon's Lair Pathfinder Society group, this event will also count towards your GMing credit (if you GM twice in a thirty day period at the Lair, you get a 10% discount on Pathfinder supplies). If you GM for more than one slot, you'll get better prizes!

We have a Warhorn page for the event here: http://warhorn.net/DragonslairAustin/schedule/day.php?date=2012-09-23

Email me at erin@dlair.net for questions, or message me here. You can also come in to the store and check things out.

We're planning on growing this into a full-scale convention in the future, so help me prove how awesome Pathfinder's following in Austin is!

Man, I wish I wasn't in training until the 22nd. I'd volunteer to GM in a heartbeat.

Well stop by to play a game or two anyway, it'll be a great way to unwind, eh?

I know! D:

Just to clarify, is this on Saturday the 22nd or Sunday the 23rd? You said the 22nd in your OP, but the sign-up says the 23rd. San Antonio is having a similar event on the 22nd at our Dragon's Lair, so it would be good to know just in case anyone happens to want to go to both.

The Exchange 4/5

Yes! I'm interested, yet knowing which days are a go for this would be awesome.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

I believe it's going to be the 23rd based on IRL conversations with Dragon's Lair staff (but don't quote me on that until thequickhoof makes a statement).

That said, once the date is settled formally and I can make some arrangements with work (both of which I imagine can be resolved tomorrow), I'm interested in GMing for you. I've played almost all of the scenarios you have up and wouldn't mind taking a crack at one of the modules.

I am going to note, I hope you make it clear to participants that Rise of the Runelords Pt. I & Skull and Shackles Pt. I do not give PFS credit/chronicles. I do think it's awesome you're offering them and can only imagine the potential for those tables to organize into a regular game day to finish said adventure paths, I would just hate for people to sign up for them and/or play though them and find out the characters don't translate to PFS at all.

Augh, I am type-fail. My bad. It's on the 23rd, I must have hit the wrong button. Sorry guys.

We're planning on it, yes. Announcements before the start of the session, signs at the table, notices on the website. We're really looking forward to running them--partly because we still want people to have an opportunity for fun even if they're not interested in PFS play--but you're absolutely right that it would totally be lame to play for ten hours and not get PFS credit when you thought you were going to.

I have added you to my list! Hooray :D

The Exchange 4/5

I'm excited to see the San Antonio DL is running some high level scenarios, http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz6god?San-Antonio-TX-Dragons-Lair-Pathfinder#3

I'm interested in both as I need 1 more to get my Fighter to 11th
Echoes of the Everwar—Part I: The Prisoner of Skull Hill (PATH)

Then 1 step closer to 12, or if I can make the Austin Dragon Lairs day and play in the Ruby Phoenix tournament then I'd hold off on part II and play a different character.
Echoes of the Everwar—Part II: The Watcher of Ages (PATH)
In addition to Echoes in San Antonio #4–04: King of the Storval Stairs (PATH) in Austin might be good for my Fighter, yet I've played a lot of the other scenarios offered.

The opportunity for two games might be enough to bring me from Houston to San Antonio and then Austin, just need to budget it out.

Hooray!

I emailed you last night (talking about doing Harrowing or Shore to Sea), so make sure I'm not on your list twice! I've yet to figure out to how to actually cast Simulacrum, so GMing two tables at the same time may turn out to be a wee bit difficult.

The Exchange 4/5

At least 3 of us will be heading up to Austin from Houston for the Sunday game day, a variety of factors came into play for this decision.

I have lvls 1,3,5,7,11.
2 players are new to PFS, but not Pathfinder and will have lvl 1's possibly 2's if we can get games in this coming week.
1 will have an 8
1 more lvl 11 looking to retire his character at 12 may be making the trip up as well.

I'm excited forward to the Ruby Phoenix Tournament, yet will look at 4-04 Storval for a good alternate for that character.

Ha! I'm no longer going to be out of town that day!

Really looking forward to it. The folks at Dragon's Lair Austin, and thequickhoof in particular, are absolutely awesome.

Grand Lodge 2/5

Hope some of you make it down to San Antonio for the Saturday games.

D'awwwwwww. *blush*

In other news, we now have a Warhorn page for the event (actually we've had it for a while but I've been out in the middle of nowhere with no internet and couldn't post it):

Spread the word! Signing up on Warhorn will guarantee your spot at the table, but we'll very likely be able to take plenty of walk-ins as well.

Game Day was freaking amazing. Between everyone who participated, we earned almost 200 prestige in a single day.

Everybody ready to do it again?

Management wants another one on December 2nd. Get your dice ready!

Though It was great meeting a bunch of new players up Austin, and see some of the players I have met in the past, I most likely will not attend another similar event due to the way the scheduling was done.

I did love the way you were giving out the prizes, and I might steal that for our local convention down here in San Antonio in April ;). And like I mentioned above the players up there are top notch!

But the scheduling killed it for me. Due to the nature of Season 4 scenarios (Larger more complicated fights to deal with the new norm of 6 players) they are near impossible to fit into 4 hour slots and I know of at least four season 4 scenarios during the first 2 slots that did not complete because they ran out of time. In fact sometimes depending on the group it can be hard to fit a season 4 scenario in 5 hour slots!

Based on that I would like to recommend the following friendly advice:

Try to convince Dragon's Lair to have extended hours the day of the event and use the same schedule most Conventions now use for 5 Hour slots.

That would be the following

8am - 1pm
1pm - 6pm
7pm - 12am

If Dragon's Lair is not capable or willing to Open earlier that day then I would suggest just running 2 slots during the event or if you still want to run 3 slots do not add season 4 scenarios on the schedule, though I would not recommend the latter.

Also have all the events been reported? I am still missing one.

Thanks for setting this up, and I think though it needs some work with scheduling it can and was a very Fun event.

One other recommendation..

Use the session sheets you can download from the event you added on the Paizo site. They have the Event number on them and the GMs can reference those for the Event ID and Number.

Why must I be out on mission every time this comes up? :(

Shadow Lodge Event Coordinator - Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy®

Dragnmoon, your advice is already in the works of our grand Events machine. We'd actually never run Season 4 scenarios at the store before, and had no idea what to expect! We were expecting similar lengths to what we're used to from Season 3 and were totally surprised.

It's funny you mention extended hours--normally we close at 7 on Sundays XD

That said, we are indeed planning next time to do two five-hour slots instead of three four-hours. We might even do six-hour slots, especially since there will be quite a few more Season 4 scenarios available for next time (a lot of people were disappointed that we only had the four). I think three slots were a bit much for most of our attendees, though there were still four tables going strong in the last slot. But that will give us a little more room to breathe, hopefully.

And next time we'll have a little better idea of what we're actually doing, and hopefully things will be more organized, lol. This was very much a test run for us; we learned a lot and will be incorporating everything we learned as much as possible. If anyone has any advice for us, fire away! God knows no one ever got anything done by waiting until they knew what they were doing to dive into things.

And I have finished reporting everything but one table, for which I still need to hear back from a GM on a recording clarification point. Which one are you missing? I might have reported it wrong. Sadly I have not yet earned enough prestige points to purchase infallibility...

Speaking of which, Dragon's Lair Society members earned over 200 prestige points in a 48-hour period last weekend. HIGH FIVES

Well, we're planning on doing it quarterly from here on out. Give it a couple more game days; if it keeps happening, I'd maybe go to a church or something and ask what you did to make someone cranky. XD

Our paperwork organization was one of the problem areas we're extremely focused on correcting. And this is an excellent piece of information. I shall take it to squirrel it away in my stash of useful things.

Looks like it is now reported, so no longer a problem.

And for future events if you need some help with Organizing it, or just some extra hands, I know you know about Dave and Bill (VC & VL) up there but you also have myself and the VLs down here Jen and PJ that will be willing to help.

You can shoot me an email at dragnmoon(at)gmail(dot)com for some advice and I can bring Jen and PJ into the conversation as well.

Like I said it was fun, I am glad though you are adjusting the scheduling.

Awesome! We'll probably be contacting you as we get closer to December. Thanks!
