note to players from the GM:
The DC was based off of the number of successes the combined tables had, the tables had the middle number of successes, which meant that this required 1 "hard" diplomacy or bluff check, "hard" for 10-11 tier is quite high. Perhaps there are other ways to subdue them, or perhaps you are just looking for a straight fight at this point, just remember that decisions now have long term consequences through the rest of the scenario.

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★

The crowd of guards, onlookers, and concerned citizens outside the Blakros Museum quiets as Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin approaches a woman clad in furs exiting the museum. “My Pathfinder agents tell me that you are Medda of the Twinhorn following, is that correct?”

“Yes, I speak for the following.” Medda glares at Nigel Aldain, “I have come to reclaim what is rightfully ours. His agents stole our most sacred relic after we refused to sell it. We have traveled through dangerous lands to claim it back, and still he refused—”

“My agents claim they bought it,” Nigel protests. “I’m not going to just give it to you because you stomp into my office demanding priceless artifacts.”

Valsin interjects, “Nigel, let us listen to her story and decide how to proceed. Medda, tell us about this relic. Why is it so important to you?”

Medda takes a deep breath. “Over 900 years ago, a powerful warrior named Ivvora came into our camp. She spoke of an angel named Vildeis who guided her hunt for a great dark evil she called Eshimka. Several of our scouts had recently disappeared, later found ripped into pieces. The elders insisted that we help banish this evil and ensure the safety of our following. They laid a trap for the evil spirit, luring it to our sacred standing stones on the winter solstice. There, Ivvora and the great dark evil, Eshimka, fought a mighty battle that raged for hours. Just as the night was darkest, Ivvora dealt Eshimka a telling blow, digging her dagger deep into its flesh. The creature tried to escape, but it only snapped off the blade and then collapsed on the center stone. The elders finished their ritual and destroyed it completely.

“Ivvora rested with us for the winter before departing to eradicate more evil from the world, but not before leaving us the hilt of her weapon.” Medda withdraws a bundle of bloody cloth from her bag, then unwraps it to reveal a small hilt with a bloody fragment of black metal. “She told us to bring the hilt back to the standing stones every year at the winter solstice to keep evil away. We’ve had to travel for so long to retrieve the hilt, I’m afraid we won’t make it back in time for the solstice. Please, let me leave now.”

Ambrus Valsin contemplates Medda’s story for a moment, then nods, his brow furrowed. “Nigel, you should send for the Blakros agents who ‘obtained’ the hilt and hear what they have to say. Medda, I’m going to send as many Pathfinder agents as you deem necessary to travel with you and your following. I want to ensure we return this relic to its proper place.” Nigel starts to protest, but Valsin cuts him off. “Nigel, you wanted my help; you are getting it. I’m helping you fix a mistake your agents made. As for your museum,” Valsin takes a moment to survey the heavily damaged museum, ”I’m told most of the damage was done by your own security, not Medda and her following.

“Pathfinders, prepare to head north to the Realm of the Mammoth Lords.”

This concludes Part 1.

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★

Medda and Ambrus Valsin discuss long into the night how the Society might help the Twinhorn following. By the morning they have concluded that while teleportation magic might take the Kellids and Pathfinders as far as Lastwall, Medda insists that Ivvora’s hilt has lost some of its spiritual strength since being stolen. She believes the only way to restore its power is to walk the same path that Ivvora took into the Twinhorn’s land after the Shining Crusade—and that path leads straight through the Hold of Belkzen, an unforgiving land controlled by orcs!

Society mages gather to transport small groups at a time to Lastwall, and from there, the convoy of Kellids, Pathfinders, and supply wagons set off north. For all their brutal reputation, the orcs have become somewhat more welcoming of caravans at the urging of Grask Uldeth, one of the strongest orc chieftains and the ruler of the de facto capital Urgir. Those who stop at the Table of Ralock can purchase safe passage in the form of special tokens from tribal representatives. It remains to be seen whether the Pathfinders can secure enough.

@Table GMs: You have until October 22 to run Securing Passage on page 21.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

The tables as a group were able to secure Medda’s assistance and she was not killed by overzealous PCs. The next part of the adventure takes us through Belkzen, where your passage will be much easier if you can secure tokens from the various orc tribes. Additionally, you may receive small benefits beyond just the token. Each tribal representative may be interacted with just once. If you fail to impress them the first time, they have no further time for you. Each representative has two ways in which they can be impressed, creative solutions can be given small bonuses on these checks and certain spells may automatically succeed.

Urgir, capital of Belkzen, land of the orcs, is a dusty city composed
of a discordant combination of crumbling dwarven architecture
and rickety shelters. Medda has asked that everyone try and
obtain tribal tokens, which allow safe passage through Belkzen
and protection from the orc tribes. Medda has purchased as many
tribal tokens as possible with gold but still needs more to have
enough for the warriors and the Pathfinders.

Medda briefs the assembled Pathfinders, “Seek out any of the several different orc tribe ambassadors. Impress them. Do favors for them. Do whatever it takes to obtain the tribal tokens we need to continue traveling northward.”

“Blenta represents the Storm-Screamers of Rull. She’s a hunter, who honors nature. You’ll find her in the beast pits.”

“Borbus represents the Cleft Head tribe. He’s a hard-drinking warrior. If he’s not brawling, you’ll usually find him in a tavern.”

“Bukog represents the Steal Eaters. He’s a skilled metalsmith. You’ll find him at work in his workshop.”

“Gekgaro represents the Broken Spine tribe. He is their most trusted scout. This time of year, he’s looking for a suitable winter camp for his tribe, probably on the outskirts of Urgir.”

“Graffa represents the Burning Sun tribe. She’s a martial artist and a proud woman. I heard she’s set up a training arena on the campus of Urgir’s Young Ladies Academy.”

“Kardook represents the Bloodied Gauntlets. He’s a brawler of some repute. He’s found a sparring pen near Graffa’s training arena. He’s challenging her or anyone else brave enough to come and fight him for the glory of Gorum.”

“Mirtgog represents the Murdered Child tribe. He’s one of their most feared agents, as ambitious and scheming as his tribe. He could be anywhere in Urgir. He’ll likely find you, once he hears what you’re up to.”

Let me know whom each of you are seeking out and I will follow it up with a post about that representative.

Heading to the Beast Pits, it takes very little time to find Blenta. She is hard at work trying to tame a particularly independent gorthek. Gorthek are mounts used by some odd tribes. They are valued for their hardiness.

As you come up to her her brow is dripping with sweat and she seems to be concentrating on the training of this beast.

Also I miss read, you as a group can try up to two checks to try to influence the representatives. Creative solutions are permitted but trying to use a skill like diplomacy on an orc who is desperately trying to tame a creature is unlikely to meet with success.

In the middle of the market square, someone has drawn a crude ring in the hard-packed clay. In the center of the sparring ring, stands a large orc, bare to the waist holding aloft a holy symbol in one raised fist. “I, Kardook, am ready to challenge any warrior brave enough to face me unarmed. Let us test our mettle for the glory of Gorum!”, he thunders.
A pair of paladins from Mendev pass by the ring, armor glistening, shields emblazoned with crusader sigils. Kardook makes a rude gesture, “Crusaders, sissies in a half-shell!” He sneers and spits in their direction. “Ask your goddess if she’ll let you face a real man.”

Worshiper of Gorum:
Kardook appreciates anyone else sporting Gorum’s holy symbol or who mentions Gorum favorably, granting them a +2 bonus on skill checks to influence him. Any talk of the crusaders, paladins, or Lastwall in a positive light earns Kardook’s ire and a –4 penalty on skill checks to interact with him.

“Mirtgog represents the Murdered Child tribe. He’s one of their most feared agents, as ambitious and scheming as his tribe. He could be anywhere in Urgir. He’ll likely find you, once he hears what you’re up to.”

“We’ve done Blenta and Kardook. It sounds like Mirtgog of the Murdered Child tribe (charming) will find us.”

Luisila makes a face at the remaining options. “If nobody is particularly skilled at wilderness survival, I’d suggest making an appointment with Head Mistress Graffa to enquire whether Holly (or Giovanni) have what it takes to enter Urgir’s Young Ladies’ Academy.”

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

Sounds like Mirtgog then Graffa?
As you make your way back to Medda’s tent, you see a hulking, cloaked figure leaning against the trunk of a gnarled cedar, smoking a thick cigar. Looking left and right, he calls out from the shadows, “Pathfinders, I’d like a word with you. Let’s talk.”
“I hear you’re looking for safe passage through orc lands.” He looks down at his cigar and taps away some of the ash. “Dangerous journey. Friends could help you keep your scalp on your way in and out.” He gives you a hard look and raises a questioning eyebrow. “Maybe we could help each other.”
“The Empty Hand and their chief, Grask Uldeth, will be the gravest threat you and the Twinhorn following will face on your quest. The Empty Hand has enemies, but the tribe is powerful. My employers hired me to take them down a notch or two. I’m interested in recruiting assets to make that happen. Maybe you have the special skills I’m looking for? People who can do things without being noticed, and can keep their mouths shut about it.”

Holly looks at a few of her compatriots and places a finger on her chin as she thinks of an appropriate response. She shakes her head a few times as if discarding partially formed thoughts before finally speaking.

"Perhaps some of us might be able to be of service in such a capacity but others might bulk at doing things on the sly. What is it that you wish to have done? And what level of risk would we be looking at if we where to be caught?"

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★

Having traveled for more than a week through the harsh lands of Belkzen, the Twinhorn warriors grow excited as they come within a few days’ travel of their homeland.

As the sun dips behind the Smokespur mountains, the sound of drums start to echo off the rocky canyon walls, starting slowly at first, but quickly increasing in pace. Medda turns from her lead position in the caravan and shouts “Look out! Ambush!”

The drumming continues as a boulder hurtles from the mountain and lands on the lead wagon, sending splinters flying in all directions. Clouds of dust billow off the mountainside as dozens of orcs surge from the foothills and chant to the beat of the drums. Arrows and boulders begin to rain from the slopes.

Medda calls out, “Pathfinders, someone is willing to risk Uldeth’s ire by attacking us! I need some of you to meet their vanguard, others to guard the caravan, and a third group to take out their archers.”

@Table GMs: You have until November 2 to run Up the Flood Road on page 22. Encounter G cannot be run until either D, E or F has been completed first.

A mass of orcs and their monstrous allies charges down the foothills. Remnants of an ancient dwarven outpost provide cover and an obstacle in their path; it is the most defensible position from which to confront the enemy vanguard.
The main mobile force is attacking directly, hoping to win with overwhelming numbers.

Ice Tooth orcs and their trained animals attack in the vanguard of the orc army, while their Black Sun allies bring giants into the fray. The orcs shout battle cries, like “For the glory of Gutrattle!” and “Death to the pinkskins!”, as they advance.

You spot three savage creatures looking like bestial versions of a savage human, with green-gray skin and greasy black hair. They lead three massive quadrupeds with thick, wrinkled hide, curving horns, and shaggy hair that frames their leonine faces. One of the savages wears full plate armor wields an orc double axe and a masterwork composite shortbow. The other two have no armor, wearing cloaks, bracers on their forearms, and rings on their fingers. They are armed with wands, slings and masterwork daggers. Belts with silver buckles and the image of a tiger encircle their waists.

Avelina takes on a grin of a significantly less than completely undevious nature as she sees her foes. The Inheritor has given her an opportunity to get revenge mete out justice.

"Orc witch doctors, everyone, here to throw out their heathen magicks. We shall show them the power of the Righteous!"

She holds out a hand towards one of the witch doctors, her palm up and her fingers cupped as if holding an invisible goblet.

"Contemplate your wickedness as you are trapped by the Frozen Prison of the Knight-Goddess!"

She pulls her fingers into a fist and a prison of ice forms around the witch doctor.

She casts Icy Prison on the blue witch doctor. He is now trapped within 11 inches of ice. If he fails the DC 25 reflex save, he has the helpless condition for 11 minutes. If he makes the save, he's still behind 11 inches of ice, but only entangled

Feeling a familiar wash of energy, Giovanni smiles as he moves effortlessly across the field to a more advantageous, though not perfect, position on the field of battle.

He will move through the area threatened by, well, all of them EXCEPT the one in the ice cage, moving around the far witch doctor to take his position.

Assuming he arrives in his target location mostly unmolested, his chain will lash out the adjacent witch doctor in an attempt to lay him out flat.

Primary Chain Trip w/ Bless and Haste: 1d20 + 30 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 30 + 1 + 1 = 48 Probably enough

In reaction to the witch doctor falling down, Giovanni will move him, hopefully providing an obstacle to force the chieftain to a take a slightly longer route to reach Giovanni . . ..

Primary Chain Reposition AoO w/ Bless and Haste: 1d20 + 30 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 30 + 1 + 1 = 45 Also probably enough

Giovanni attempts to move the With doctor counterclockwise around himself, but only about 7 feet, putting him just West of the feet of the chieftain.

5 AoOs remain. I will attempt to trip anything that moves through a threatened space (probably only the chieftain, I know). If I trip the chieftain, I will attempt to disarm him (+32 base instead of the +30 for trip/reposition). If the witch doctor tries to get up or cast without readying any items, I will simply punish him with a little direct damage. If he readies an item, I will attempt to disarm him of the item instead. Please remember that a successful disarm throws an item 15' in a random direction. Should any of the large beasts actually provoke rather than simply close, after a successful trip I will simply provide a little base damage. Save an AoO for the witch doctor at the Chieftain's feet, though.

Luisila then copycats (move) and steps 5’ closer to the front line.

Reflex Witch Doctor (black): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 fail

Suddenly unable to see, the Orc Chieftain bellows in anger then spends his turn drinking a potion.

The Gortheks however seem to be little affected by the burst of radiance and quickly squint their eyes, anger clearly aroused.

Two of the Gortheks begin to stomp the ground and trample as many of the group as they can.

Those that are in the path of the trample can EITHER make an attack of opportunity at a -4 OR make a DC25 reflex save for half damage.

AOO from Kaisharga, 20 feet of reach, combat reflexes, bite, power attack, on red: 1d20 + 16 + 1 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (11) + 16 + 1 + 1 - 3 = 261d8 + 9 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 9 = 24 Hits
Grab: 1d20 + 21 + 1 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (5) + 21 + 1 + 1 - 3 = 25 fail

Red attempts to trample Holly, Luisila, Avelina, and Fandral. For trample damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 1) + 16 = 19

Green is only able to trample Luisila and Holly. Trample damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 2) + 16 = 20

The final Gorthek moves in to attack Giovanni, AOO Trip: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (1) + 30 = 31, who with one flick of the chain, summarily misses allowing the Gorthek to close the distance. A 31 would normally trip him, but only the Natural 1 prevented it.

Gorthek Gore on Giovanni, power attack: 1d20 + 16 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 16 - 1 - 2 = 302d6 + 16 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 16 + 6 = 29
