It's almost as bad as Pathfinder's.

Then there's the opposite, when you walk to the door of Doc Mitchell's house, pockets bulging with knives, ammunition, and food pilfered from his shelves, grab his hat off the rack and put it on, then ask "Yo Doc, I'm still feeling woozy. Got any drugs for the road?"

You could always pass the time with new Fallout Vault App. Have determined yet if this is going to be a case of pay to play to do anything. Or just something to keep up interest.

I've been playing with it this morning, It's probably the least money grubbing game app I've encountered in a while. There are no ads, there is no timed paywall, in fact the only thing real money is used for are to buy "Lunchboxes" which give you a set of random items. You can also get these completing in game missions. So yeah I can see messing with this for at least a few weeks.

Yea - very cool videos I watched this morning.

For the weapon crafting, looks like you will need levels in Science and GunNut to be fully effective based on what was zipped through.

The home crafting system look like you will need some Hacker skills and charisma based ones. On the one hand, this looks really cool and I can sse setting up a home for trophies and such, kind like you would do in Fallout 3 and FNV, but with more mod ability. I also like the notion that finding all that scrap is more meaningful than just taking up space in your dwelling. Maybe those 5,000 coffee cups you could find in the wasteland can let you make a sink or bathtub?

The building up a settlement to protect options seems more like something that's more time consuming - it might be something I would do after finishing the game's storyline and plots completely rather trying to do both simultaneously. My concern would be how much micro-management would be needed - do you have to manage food, resources, and protection on a daily basis? Or can it run on its own or statically if you are away? I'd hate to see my town get wiped out by raiders and all my stuff gone if I go on a quest that last for three or four days.

More Fallout 4 news. Not much new in that link, but it does give the full 2 hour and some odd minutes of Bethesda Pre-E3 video.

The more I hear, the more it sounds like they were really trying to compile this game with a great amount of detail and features without saying anything. It suddenly makes their rather reserved response to the fake Fallout 4 site last year so apparent - it would invite more speculation, etc.

That aside, and getting off track, I was actually more impressed with Doom's appearance than I expected. It looks like they took the Wolfenstein engine and modified it that game. Almost too visceral for me.

With Wolfenstein and now Doom, I wonder if it's too much to hope for a new Heretic/Hexen game...

Fallout 4, XCOM 2, Doom 666, Dishonored 2. Yea, this will be fun. I WAS going to just get a PS4, but then XCOM 2 said it was PC only. ~shrugs~ Oh well. I always wanted to play a modded out Fallout game and now I will be able to. ~starts writing down a list of mods for Fallout 3, NV, 4, Skyrim, ect, ect, ect...~

edit - Besides, XCOM - The Long War will play a LOT better on a newer PC.

For me, the golden trifecta is Metal Gear Solid V, XCOM 2, and Fallout 4. It's kind of a great year for me. Also, now that I look at it, they are all long running series. I guess I'm a sucker for classics.

Yeah. Hexen 3 would do nicely....

Fallout 4, Doom and Battlefront all look good. Now, I just have to figure out how to squeeze a few hours to play during the school year. I have a fairly heavy teaching load this coming year *sigh*

As long as it's a reboot, yes. All the Serpent Riders are dead as of Hexen 2, and I'd certainly love to revisit them and all of their minions.

Oh, one of their minions bringing them back... something could be arranged :) Or hey, a new villain endangering the worlds... I'm easy. I loved that game.

AP Government, AP US History and CP Government. A ton of grading and no explosions in sight... unless... Omaha Beach in Battlefront! Well, probably not a good idea.

Tell your students to write a paper on the socioeconomic ramifications of a post-nuclear war society through the lens of the Fallout universe.

Tell them to give you a plausible explanation for why, exactly, bottle caps become the main currency.

While they're puzzling that out, you should be able to sneak some game time. =)

Eh, who am I kidding? I'm not picky. Any Hexen, as long as it's fun, is good for me. I just want to put some axes to faces.

Summary from E3 for those who have seen/haven't had chance to watch the video:

- You are indeed the lone survivor of Vault 111, woken up 200 years after the bombs fell. You are either the man or woman in the trailer looking over the baby crib.

- Very robust crafting system where you can scrap any object in the game and use it to make anything from weapon mods to entire houses. You can build settlements and establish trade. Weapon mod system is very variable and robust. Oh and yes, you can customize your own power armor.

- Skills appear to be folded into perks. Speculation is they will work as skills did in Skyrim.

- New UI, Pip Boy, VATS look nifty (IMO).

- Release date is November 2015

In other news there's an iPhone app out called Fallout Shelter, which allows you to build and control a vault. Sadly not yet available for Android.

And on a personal note, part of me is really excited about the crafting and part of me is going to be annoyed at feeling obligated to collect every ounce of spare trash in the wasteland. Especially if there's WAY more salvageable stuff than there should be 200 years post apocalypse, which is an issue I had in prior Fallout games as well (also Wasteland 2). I like to salvage and build things, I don't like the idea that I'm wandering along a road that many other mercs and traders have traveled over the last several decades but no one before me apparently thought it was worth their time to loot the abandoned grocery store nearby. The excitement about being able to build and customize my own house is outweighing the skepticism however.

Can you elaborate? I hope this doesn't mean they're moving to a "better with practice" kind of skill leveling. That was one thing I didn't like about Skyrim. I shouldn't have to turn into a petty thief just because I have to grind my Lockpicking and Pickpocket skills for when I need them for a just cause.

Although, it was helpful (if nervewracking) doing overland travel in stealth mode to grind Sneak.

Me: *crawling along the road, minding my own business*
BOOM!
"Sneak has increased to 39"
Me: "What? Who's there? Who just failed to notice me?"

Damn iCrap getting all the good stuff...

It looks like they are either folding certain abilities (like stealth and accuracy) into SPECIAL, or there are a few ranks of perks that give you stuff like crafting abilities. There are no 1-100 skills, which is quite interesting.

Also worth nothing is that intelligence now effects exp gain. VERY INTERESTING INDEED.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

RainyDayNinja, I'm just going off what you can see on screen during the E3 demo and trying to extrapolate from there. In the video you can see the PipBoy interface, and it shows SPECIAL, status, and perks---no skill menu. There is a command to access a "perk chart." The crafting screens show prereqs for crafting, e.g., "Perks: science 2." And there is a Barter Bobblehead.

So from there, it looks like there's nothing called "skills" BUT areas of expertise like science and barter exist. These are labeled "perks," have ranks, and are organized according to a chart. So I am guessing what were skills are now trees, a la Skyrim, where as you level you cab choose more perks you qualify for on a given tree.

No indication as to how these abilities are gained (use or flat gains you pick upon leveling). I'd presume the latter until proven otherwise

That's awesome to hear, Scythia. :) I hope you felt it worth the time. Did you

Spoiler:
Talk down Lanius or kill him?

In my game Veronica punched him from full to about 2 hit points with one blow and then my kill-stealing Courier shot his arm off.

** spoiler omitted **

I had already gotten the character to just before the president's visit, so it wasn't much extra work. Besides, I got two achievements. :P

As to Lani:

Spoiler:
I had the skill to talk him down, but didn't think that would be in character, after all I had executed Caesar face to face with Joshua's gun. I intended to do the same to Lanius. After a couple crits to the head, Lanius tried to run away. I ended up having to take some Slasher and clean out the entire camp before I caught up with him. The might and valor of the Legion were found wanting that day.

I kept my word to take his helmet as a trophy.

So even huger area to get bored of? :P *never has been huge fan of open world games* Also, saying that their developers haven't seen everything sounds to me like "Developers haven't actually tested these areas work" aka not a good thing <_<

I'd prefer to hear that they actually got someone to do good quest design or writing instead of how much they are making things bigger...

Anyway, I hope if they have factions that there won't be again knight in shining armor bos... I prefer fallout factions to be morally grey.

(would be nice if new VATS(I haven't checked gameplay videos yet since I'm in no hurry to do so) included target options from first two xD)

CorvusMask, I actually agree with the point of big open worlds often being boring. However, I think Fallout 4 has some interesting points in its favor. With base/settlement building, there is actually some ongoing gameplay and goals that drive you forward. It's something to keep you on your toes and interested.

At least, theoretically. I'm hoping it is as good as it looks. If not, I'll always have MGSV...

To each their own. I prefer open world games, as exploring and discovering is the fun part to me.

Well, it's not only one person who does QA. Even if it were, it wouldn't be the project manager. Because one person hasn't been to every corner of the map, doesn't mean someone from the team hasn't been there to test.

That sai, it's a Bethesda game, so there will probably be bugs.

CorvusMask wrote:

Why would it sound like that to you? At large studios, individual developers don't work on every part of the game. They have a focus (or set of focuses) and they devote their time and specialized expertise to those things. In a sufficiently large game, it would be weird (and probably wildly inefficient) if every developer were aware of every piece of content going into the game. You can be nearly 100% certain that every area in the game has been tested, first by the people designing them, and then in greater length and detail by the studio's enormous QA teams.

My brother works at a small game company. His primary focus is on controls integration between the hardware and software. He's barely played some of the games he has worked on (though Leapfrog and Disney Princess games are not the most entertaining for adults)

Also, the person who was quoted was the game's director, which is a few levels above someone who is down in the details.

I am always finding new areas in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (and Skyrim). I know that I have put over 500 hours into Fallout 3 and over 1000 hours into New Vegas. Granted, all of the main areas have been explored, but some of the nooks and crannies have not been.

This is my experience as well. Particularly in Skyrim, but still every once in awhile in New Vegas and 3.

See, for whatever reason I just can't get into Skyrim, I've had it a year and a half, still 6th level, haven't played it in months, not a bad game, just not fun for me (so far)

Fallout 3 however has been a blast, the first game since Legacy of Kain I just can't stop playing :-)

I'm already like that, and now that stuff is useful beyond it's few cap value.

I did Pack Rat + Strong Back often, but only so I could carry an entire banquet of Gecko Kabobs, Bloatfly Sliders, Desert Salad, and Healing Poultice.

I could have provided the requested variety of meals for McCarran out of my own stockpile, if only the game had let me.
