Rules Questions

Ok - why are this traits in comparsion to most other traits so powerful?

Lets look at some of them:

Blade of the Society: You gain a +1 trait bonus to damage rolls from sneak attacks (nice to have, for a rogue better than dirty fighter, because he gets to use the bonus when he sneaks alone - not just when flanking. the other way around there is no situation he don´t gets to add his sneak when he is flanking - so this is a little bit better than dirty fighter because he can use in more situations)

Defender of the Society: You gain a +1 trait bonus to Armor Class when wearing medium or heavy armor. (wow, +1 TRAIT bonus to armor class. because their is no magic item in game with a trait bonus it stacks with everything. nice...)

Berserker of the Society: You may use your rage ability for 3 additional rounds per day. (ok this is exactly half the worth of the feat - so still within range of traits, but still better than a lot of other traits a barbarian could take)

Yar.

Faction traits can only be taken if you are a member of that faction. Most of these traits also have class restrictions. ie: only rogues who are also Pathfinders may select Blade of the Society.

Also, because of the Faction requirement, and so few PCs start as a full fledged member (at least, as far as I'm aware), these traits are generally not accessible at first level. The only way to gain them then, is either through the Additional Traits feat (once you meet all the other - Faction and Class - requirement), or with regards to the Pathfinder traits, achieve a total of 5 Fame/TPA, and then spend 1 Prestige Point/CPA to switch out one of your original traits for a Faction trait.

Whereas all the traits in the APG are free for any class to take regardless of Faction affiliation right off the bat.

That is the difference and why Faction traits may generally be slightly more powerful than non-faction traits.

Pirate: I am just learning PFS rules but I think you can choose a faction right from the start in PFS? If true then PFS characters can choose these traits immediately.

If not true then assuming they can choose a faction by level 2 then when they hit level 2 they may rebuild (as per PFS rebuild rules when hitting level 2) and then add this trait.

Gauss, you are correct in stating that PFS characters can take one of these traits at character creation, or at any time in the future with the Additional Traits feat.

Thanks for the confirmation Ninjaiguana. I am just now deciding to get into PFS and have been gearing up for it. Alot of extra rules to absorb. :)
