New to PbP looking to give it a try

@DaWay, I would be interested in running my Summoner in an AP, but I would prefer to test PbP first. If you want to start right away, you can send me a PM or some such and I will learn to play a module and AP simultaneously

That's the spirit! :)

Remember, I may not be a newbie to GM'ing on a PbP but I ran a different system. This will be my first time running Pathfinder and I've had the book for 7 weeks. That said, PbP is great for finding systems and letting players point to the rules of what they want to do (especially since the rules are posted on the PRD. Then it's just a matter of setting up a spoiler tag with links).

the module:

The adventure I have in mind to start with is Hollow's Last Hope. It's simple and has space for players to have dialogue. Even if you've read it, it won't matter.

Build, and what I'm seeking:

Build is easy.
-20 point build.
-2 traits
-Average currency + 10.
-Class and Race is up to you, but I am looking for someone that can fight, a person to heal, and a magic user of some flavor.

However, if you would like to use Hero Points, then the point spread will be 15.

Finally, I would like to have a party of mixed genders. Either one woman with two men, or with two women and one guy.

@Ken I think we should let the players choose who they want to play with. My module is very basic and decent for those new to PbPs. However, my form of combat is very situational and it's more than just rolling a D20 and hoping you hit.

Lantern Lodge

The APs I am willing to run are:
Curse of the crimson throne
Legacy of fire
Kingmaker
Skulls and Skackles

Let me know if these interest you

I have not played any of them, therefore I will base my decision on my amazing powers.

I vote for the third from the left on your shelf!

Lantern Lodge

My shelf is completely digital so the third from the left is determIned by the size of the window.

On a completely different note. Drive in theaters with a 2 month old infant totally works.

Alight Capt, that module sounds great for beginners. I think the only thing I'm missing is to pick a couple traits.

Personally, I see no need for hero points, we'll just keep it simple and closer to core rules unless others object.

Hit me up with the thread for the new module when you get it created and people can get setup and we'll continue and group discussions in that new thread.

Thanks again!

I like the sounds of both modules honestly. I have always had a weak spot for dungeon crawls, but I like the sound of your module. I think I will wait to be assigned.

@ DaWay in that case ..

Curse of the crimson throne =1
Legacy of fire =2
Kingmaker =3
Skulls and Skackles=4

(the order you posted them in)

1d4 ⇒ 4

Therefore I vote for Skulls and Shackles, as a random selection

After reading the Paizo page's players book reviews for all four, Legacy of Fire looks best to me based on a 2 minute review of the 4 books in question.

@Jus Me

Skulls and Shackles is a good choice.

@CaptMadJaq

Re-tweaking Hadassah in accordance with your rules (I just have to eliminate roughly 50gp in gear). It shouldn't take long.

@DaWay

Downloading the players book for Skulls and Shackles, will read it over and post a character as soon as possible. based on whatever build guidelines/limitations you may want to set.

@Ken

I think Hadassah already meets the standards for your campaign.

I do not think I can actively pursue all three, but I can certainly run in one module and the AP. I can probably do all three if I play Hadassah in two of the three. I don't mind running the same in all three.. as long as they are different enough to let the character grow along seperate timelines. Just don't want to be living the same series at different times, if that makes any sense to anyone but me.

Think you will have two others to come along?

@CaptMadJaq If I'm not mistaken, we've also got Jus me confirmed for this module. There were others interested, so I'm sure we can snag one more.

I am going to put up a recruitment thread and link it here. It's going to look and sound just like any other recruitment thread you would have encountered. If I have three players we can begin.

Edit:
Pish! If I have three players that fit my criteria, we're totally just starting.

But since I wrote it anyway...

But since I wrote it...:

Hello! Welcome to this recruitment thread. If you are experienced player and have played on the PbP forums for an extensive time, this thread is not for you. This is for people who are new to the game and using the forums as a gaming medium. Therefore, you will no doubt will get -bored-. However, after heeding this warning and you would still like to apply to play, then by all means please do so. In fact, you are welcome to. It's my intention to let you know what you are getting into.

Now for the second part of the warning.

We are beginning with a module, and a very simple one at that: 'Hollows Last Hope'. After this, if players are happy and would liek to continue there is the possibility of branching into other modules and adventure paths.

I am looking for 3 players.
Build is easy.
-20 point build.
-2 traits
-Average currency + 10.
-Class and Race is up to you, but I am looking for someone that can fight, a person to heal, and a magic user of some flavor.

Finally, I would like to have a party of mixed genders, and classes.
Tips and Hints, nothing terribly important.

how to PbP:

The beauty of PbP is that players are allowed some control of the scene, and take on a small co-writer approach to the story. However, it is limited to directly around the character. Think of it like a 3 foot sphere around your character. For my games, players are encouraged to provide minor insignificant details about the story. For example, I describe a bar and you have a fun action you'd like to perform but a chandelier is needed. I didn't describe a chandelier, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. If it works for good scenage (made up word) then I'm inclined to give it a thumbs up.

Also, what makes a good PbP post is using paragraphs before simple statements on what your characters are doing. After your post, in a spoiler tag, it's recommended that you then just state what your character is doing including the roll. This way you can practice your creativity, and have it so there is no doubt I have a clue on what you are trying to do. It always best to think of me as incapable of knowing what you're trying to do. Provide anything and everything for easy understanding and rule finding.

Not that I'm dumb. I just consider this thorough and helps move the game along, because games where we're all debating rules just plain sucks. Nothing gets done and players leave. So, do your research and dump it on me.

And one more thing, do not, when you make your posts, go too far into your characters' past to why she is doing what she is doing. That is more fun and exciting during dialogue. In this format you can create a story that revolves around your character while she orbits the story.

And if this sounds dull and boring, it really isn't. You'll likely find yourself hovering over your computer itching to make more posts. ;)

Thanks! :)

*flails like a happy Kermit the Frog* YAAAAAAY!

@CaptMadJaq

Yes, I am confirming for AP and for your module.

I am also confirming for the Dungeon Crawl if others are needed to round out the group.

I will be playing Hadassah if that is O.K. I will be eliminating 80 GP of gear.

So far, I eliminated about 50g in gear. I will have the rest done within the hour.

@ CaptMadJaq

I finished putting my character together for your Module. I used 20 Pts. 2 Traits, 80 gold.

Scarab Sages

I am confirming for the AP with DeWay (which I vote either Skulls and Shackles or Legacy of Fire) and the Dungeon crawl with Ken Devendell.

Will roll up and post/pm characters tomorrow or Monday depending on how much free time I end up having. (I need to do some diagnostic/ mechanic work on my car, thus the uncertainty.)

I have a 9.5 month daughter and I agree that the car is a magical place, indeed.

Confirming for DaWay's AP (any) and Capt's intro module.

For Hollow's Last Hope: I will roll up this evening my time, but I intend to roll a male human druid (which I think should fit with the Paladin and Summoner as requested).

For the AP: I will wait and see if I get to play and what other people prefer to play before deciding myself.

Yay! I will be in and out of towns tomorrow (160 mile road trip) but I will have my laptop with me.

I love it when a good plan come together!

Lantern Lodge

Alright. Legacy of fire it will be.

The only evil alignment I allow is lawful evil. All good and neutral ones are open
Any race that appears in the ARG is fair game. If you do not have access to it any stat of monsters that has a "as a character clause" is open
15 point buy.
2 traits from any source. 1 campaign trait.
All classes are open. And all archetypes.
Use te board roller for gold.
Pathfinder materials only. No 3PP or 3.5.
Hero Points will be used.

Because most/all of you are newbies I will not use variant rules.

I will create a thread in the next couple days. In the meantime discuss what you will be playing and try and create a group that can work together. That or fake it really well.

Oh Captain my captain. Looks like we have

Virgil Human Paladin
Hadassah Rabunrot Halfling Summoner
Unnamed Human Druid

Ready for Hollows Last Hope module.

Very cool. I'm excited to give this a try!

Wonderful! It's nearly 2am so starting right now isn't a good time. I just sort of woke up, got curious about this thread and will need to get back to sleeping. Expect a link soon please!

Da Way - would you be open to having a cleric in your party for Legacy of Fire? If so, I propose Fionn, who needs a little tweaking to join but is she acceptable?

Also - do you have a list of the campaign traits for this ap?

Lantern Lodge

Clerics are fine.

Would everyone who wants to do legacy of fire please send me a pm with what you ae thinking about playing and a general idea of the concept of the character.

Here we go, then. Gill Baverly, a male human druid with a drive to take on all manner of physical challenges, and who has taken a vow to never write anything down, for fear of weakening his memory.

The AP players guide is free to download and has everything you need. you'll want to read the setting info at least as this is a rather atypical environment.

Apologies, I was thinking of skull and shackles. Pfsrd should have them all if you're willing to do a bit of searching.

it's okay - da way gave me the information I need to choose a trait - thanks anyway

@DaWay I modified Hadassah to be in keeping with the rules you set forth, as well as to make her background/feats/traits match up better for your campaign. I also made this Alias that I will be using from now on as I don't want to mess up any more posts.

Jus me.

Sorry I keep messing up posting, I am making this my perma alias for the duration of the campaign(s)

Were you only taking 3? If you're allowing more, I'd like to join your campaign.

Galia:

Description:

A haughty, distrustful woman, she stands 5'8". While a half-elf by birth, her childhood taught her to hide her elven side, and she takes great pains to disguise her elven features. Dark auburn hair frames a usually stern demeanor. Her leather armor contains a few indistinct emblems from her (former) tribe.

Background:

Born the product of a rape, she learned early of her families shame. While she was adopted by the tribal chief, to whose sister she was born, she nevertheless suffered insults and disgrace from her peers. As she reached the age of 14, when a mate was to be chosen for her, she learned the true nature of her father. Her hatred for men grew, and not wanting to be given to just any man, she decided to leave the clan and search for her father, who was rumored to be a monster hunter, living now far to the south. She set out after him, searching out rumors of local monsters in the hopes of finding him hunting the same beast. She eventually began teaching herself to hunt monsters as well and found she has developed a taste for it. She is "hunting" nearby on suspicion that he may be in the area. Her intentions toward him are as yet unclear.

Yes it does rather!

Ken was also offering a newbies module, I don't know if that is still the case...

I think I'll PM him and see if he is still up for it, then a new thread could be started.
