I sympathize, but disagree. How is the case coming, comrade?

Don't worry, even if my vote mattered, I could still never vote Republican, (and voting Dem makes me puke just a tiny bit).

The case isn't going very well I'm afraid. Judge Sullivan has ruled that the city was allowed to hold people for extended periods for minor offenses because, (this kills me!) "some people on the internet were saying" that you could keep engaging in civil disobedience after getting processed and released. The city successfully argued that the police were justified in holding everyone in order to prevent this. Mind blowing!

Another part of the ruling said that finger printing people accused of only minor offenses was against the law. I was charged with 3 violations, and a misdemeanor. Even though all charges were dropped, I had been charged with a more serious crime at the time, so I think that makes it ok for them to have fingerprinted me. Ugh.

There is still the issue of holding us in that s-hole pier 57, and the potential for some sort of wrongful arrest, but things are looking dimmer and dimmer, and it has been over 8 YEARS of waiting! I'm not giving up yet because legal rulings are almost always more specific then the press presents them, and every case is different.

Here is the judges ruling

The next gov folly is coming with the calls for gun control. They can spy on us, imprison us and soon the notion of fighting back is gone, history has shown what these steps lead to.

Because limiting high capacity clips is tyranny.

Because being able to commit acts of violence is a right.
Because you can totally fight the whole US military by yourself.

The history of countries that have strong restrictions on gun ownership have shown--it makes for a less violent and no less free society.

TL;DR- Husha yo fool mouf!

Really, the biggest gov't folly right about now is the "fiscal cliff" deal.
I've been did dirty on that one. I have no earthly idea why they didn't wait for the new congress to be sworn in. I'm rather surprosed Boner kept his job as well!

The whole thing sickens me.

I am very pleased that the NRA thread got shut down after my revolutionary socialist propaganda that Obama sold us all out.

Maybe I should rethink my anti-Paizo position?

You REALLY think it will stop at high cap mags? We will have little or nothing before they are satisfied.

Germany and italy around ww2 had less violence? Pol Pot's regeme? Bolsheviks?
You might not be able to fight off a nation but when the gestapo comes to your door it might give you a chance to run.

smoke and mirrors as ever. These cans have been kicked down the road since what... 1777?

'

Which cans?
The Bush tax cuts? What remains are now permanent. Not kicked down the road.
The "sequester"? A stupid idea from the start, but only kicked from august 2011.
The Debt ceiling? An even stupider idea. Why do we have separate laws to decide whether we'll pay for something and whether we'll borrow money to pay for it. It makes no sense. Congress is essentially telling the executive: Buy this stuff. You are authorized to spend $100 on it. Here's $50 and you can borrow no more than $30. Go get us the stuff.
Regardless, the debt ceiling law dates to 1917 and has essentially been a formality that whole time.

The Deficit as a whole? Well, we ran surpluses for a while in the 90s, but that meant the federal government was "taking to much of your money", so we got tax cuts and deficits under Bush.

thanks bt. I've been looking for more info on this shooting. I know I'm an evil bleeding heart liberal who's never been hunting a day in his life, but something struck me as odd about the way the police handled it. Very reminiscent of that incident with the animals running amok when that rich shut in guy died .

LOL, you're one of the liberals I actually respect.

Sadly many LEOs get into a "These laws don't apply to me." mindset. This strikes me as a likely example of this tendency. I can identify with not wanting to waste that much lean meat, but I think law enforcement should actually be at least as accountable to the law as every other citizen.

BTW, I plan on posting stories here on occasion, but I'm not especially interested in engaging in debate.

I request that lengthy debates start their own thread.

I also request that no one engages in any douchebaggery that gets this shut down too.

Thanks!

agreed. At first glance, I thought these guys were sport hunters who wanted to shoot a prize either slightly outside of the season for it or engage in their hobby while they were on the clock. The picture of that idiot posing with the poor beast and the laughable story they came up with to cover themselves points me to the latter and not the former.

disgusting and embarrassing. Those agents should be out of a job, and Obama deserves a sock full of marbles to the junk on this one. I am not in favor of the laws regarding erroneous addresses in no knock warrants bein sserved.

Not touching this one. France has...issues...with it's former colonies, and I'm sure there's more to this in background than we're being told here.

Connecticut? Oh man. I'm wondering who's making this guy's life hell- his municipality or the state itself. A lot of the horror stories I've heard about local taxes and petty bureaucracies come out of there. Along with ugly redlining/blockbusting tales, but that's another story entirely.

How does this compare with New York?

to make a long story short, Connecticut is more out and loud with their redlining (more block busting to be fair) than new york is. With theiinflux of relatively color and faith blind hipsters, the gentrification hasn't been as awful in Brooklyn especially as it has been in the past. Ct has its bad history of white flight refugees dating back to the 70s and 80s and has been quietly doing what they can on a municipality level to keep many neighborhoods too expensive for the hoipolloi live in. It really hurts that someone of these practices may be hurting people in a time of genuine need.

Bitter Thorn wrote:

That article seems a little fishy to me. Perhaps Connecticut is different then my small town in NY, but there are some concepts that I'm sure would come into effect such as the two structures being "grandfathered in" and that you don't need a building permit to repair, only to change. Also, secret building height maximums? That sounds like total BS. Yeah, all these little boards and such can be a drag to deal with, but this isn't some faceless big brother government in a far-away land, these boards are your friends and neighbors.

Why don't they just do what EVERYONE does and build and repair whatever they want, lie on the forms to get the money, and then just tell their podunk town government to suck it. People used to build entire developments around here and get away with it.

It also seems like someone of privilege getting their first taste of what it is actually like to you know... interact with government. My heart bleeds that they have to rent, but there are people who have to jump through those hoops to get food an basic healthcare.

PS elevating a house in a day or two? Are you kidding me? They have no idea what they are talking about!

I run into a lot of debates about sex work at the second job. It's one of those thingsiI love to talk about but have few answers on. There are real world examples that both sides of the argument use to back up their claims that are damning to the opposition.

I'm not sure SEIU is the way I would go, but I strongly favor legalizing adult sex work and organizing adult sex workers.
