Designing an Adventure Recruitment [Interest Check]

Recruitment

I had attempted once before to get people interested in designing a noncommercial, free to download and play adventure. As that seems to have failed I am attempting a second time to see who would indeed be interested.

What we're looking for
- People with good, fresh ideas for adventures. Whether this is a one-shot or a continuing campaign, a healthy imagination is required.

- People with a good knowledge of the rules. I don't need everyone to know absolutely everything by heart god forbids, but at least have knowledge of how adventures work. If not, go read some and come back.

- People not afraid to share ideas and trade work and time for nothing. I'm doing this for fun and for people to enjoy, not to make money.

- We'll be working off the main Paizo site, using a free forum to keep our ideas there.

- People interested in making new things from monsters and archetypes to feats and spells.

We're not on a schedule, but it'd be nice to keep a constant momentum going. Feeding the flow you know?

It'd also be cool to get some debate on target player levels, story/theme, etc that people would be interested in creating and playing

Adventure Length

Scenario (Not even a whole level)
Adventure (Gain 1 level)
Adventure Path Segment (Gain anywhere from 2-3 levels)
Super-Adventure (Gain anywhere from 4-9 levels)
Campaign Arc (Gaining 10+ levels)
Full Campaign (1-20)
Uber Campaign (1-21+)

Level Range

Low (1-5)
Mid (6-10)
High (11-15)
Very High (16-20)
Epic (21+)

Themes

Survival
Undead
Exploration
Tropical
Underwater
Classic
Epic (Think LotR)
Steampunk
Sci-Fi
Urban
Underdark
Sandbox

Too many to list here I guess...

As well, it'd be a great opportunity to discuss setting creation, villainous organizations, world design, etc.

To anyone considering this, or if you have any questions, feel free to post away.

As well, I highly recommend listening to the Lord of the Rings Complete Soundtrack... inspiring stuff.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Humbly dotting for interest. I've never done such a thing before, but I'd be thrilled to participate.
Does it have to be a fully custom world, or is it possible to set the adventure in Golarion?

Dotting

I would consider helping with something like this. I have a lot of ideas just not enough time to GM them all ;)

I am a quite new GM and Pathfinder is my first Table Top but I would say I have a good understanding of the rules, although I won't lie I do make mistakes.

Most of the games I enjoy running are quite morally centred, where not everything is black and white, although I do enjoy the standard evil as much as the next guy.

I haven't had much experience creating new monsters and archetypes though.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

and a few thoughts on the design.
Since this is something intended for many GMs to use, I would say the best option is to make the settings as adaptable as possible. Detail your village, and suggest a place in Golarian where it could be, while letting it be easy for GMs to drop it into a different world.
My take only.
Also: swords and planets.

Dotting for interest. I like doing background work and detailing npc relations for games.

Nice to see a few interested!

As for Setting, again, that's up to us.

Example.

Setting
Full Golarion (Accurate locations, NPCs and all)
Golarionish (Set in Golarion but made to be more freeform)
Stand-Alone (Set in a setting neutral world)
Homebrew (Set in our own homebrew world)

On the subject of time requirements and work, etc.

This isn't an obligation so we have no need to run on a schedule.

We'll work on everything on the time we have available.

As we work on writing the encounters, create NPCs, etc, we'll all do our parts and if it seems someone hasn't the time, we'll take over that part instead.

A few good things to read in advance would be:

==Most of this material is available on the PRD or d20pfsrd==
- The Game Mastery Guide
- The Bestiaries (1-3)

- Rules for Monster Creation, Advancement
- Rules for NPC Creation

==Less available but locations exist on the Pathfinder Wiki I believe==
- Inner Sea World Guide (For Ideas, Setting, etc)

==Etc==
Any other rulebook from 3.5/PF that mentions world creation, adventure writing, etc. The old DRAGON and DUNGEON magazines were great for thst.

I'll have a forum up so we can work on this on a functional site.

Also want to see if anyone else is interested in helping out.

Hi, sounds like some fun I'll put my 2c worth in.

I'm interested.

Forum Site

Anyone interested is free to join. Please just PM me after to let me know who you are on the Pathfinder Forums.

If you also know people IRL or anywhere else who are interested in joining the start of what I hope could be a collective community of writers and designers, feel free to invite them too.

The forums are pretty self-explanatory, everything has its own section.

Feel free to toss ideas around and there's no reason we can't work on multiple ideas at the same time.

I think this a bad idea. Doesn't this same website have contests based on this exact same creative theme? Create a new magic item, create a Cleric variation, create a villian? Withthatsaid, I'm in!!!

I would help a writer fill in the gaps if they had writer's block, but only the bold would give intellectual property away, have we learned nothing from the creators of Penny Arcade? You guys are taking a big risk when you could get movie deals if you are really that good.

Matt, more power to you, I just want to try this knowing that my confidence to help others is beyond conceit.

I don't know what a dot is exactly but "dot" nonetheless.

I assume you are thinking of RPG Superstar. I can assure you that doing stuff like this is in no way discouraged. In fact, it is great practice if you would ever consider trying your luck in RPG Superstar (which you should, cause it's a great contest).

I know exactly what doing this means my friend. But, are not others making NPC Galleries, Class Galleries and Monster Galleries all on the site also waving away this?

I feel no problems about making stuff for people to freely download and enjoy playing.

I enjoy writing and playing Pathfinder but as I already have my own career, I do this for fun.

With that said, anyone contributing ideas that they feel they could one day market themselves should keep it. What I will put out is exatcly what I have said above:

Free to download non-commercial adventures

Dotting

I definetly have a few ideas.

For those of you who have dotted and are still interested, we are already beginning to work on the above mentioned FORUM

Forum Link Again

Remember, we're not forcing anyone, you work as you want and help out with the time you have.

As well, to keep the forum running shipshape, I'll prune off people who do not support. We are working on things and I appreciate support. If no support is given, you will be able to see the work once we finish it and put it up for download.

Color me interested! :) I just registered on the forum with the same username :)
